aaaaaaarrrrrrggggghhh!!!!!!! Driving round yesterday - everything seems fine. Stop outside work (engine still running), battery light comes on, abs light comes on, voltage drop to 10.8-11.5 WTF?? Then just to cheer me up even more I get a burning plastic smell and puffs of smoke exiting the drivers side of the bonnet:confused: Anyway, I drove home - lights still on, still low voltage (although the car started fine and all the electrics work without causing further voltage drop)- no more smokey burning, but still worried. I disconnected the battery for half an hour in case it was some kind of spike or surge activating the lights. Reconnected it…

Help, I'm at work and need to get my number plates done up, so does anybody know what size the rear number plate should be to fit (japanese import). Finally found somewhere that'll do the plates up given the measurements, but I haven't got time to go home and go to this place in my lunch hour. Anybody remember from when they did theirs or have access to their car at the mo' Thank you, and there's a drink in it at the next meet :) James

If I sold my 300ZX (not decided to sell yet and car is not ready but it will be as follows if I do sell it)...how much wud I expect to get for the following... 1992 "J" Reg UK 300ZX TT AUTO UNMODDED. 85k miles, White, black leather, cool sound system, new rear tyres. All electrics work. Bodywork is pretty good all round considering age. Full service history. Oil changed every 3k miles ! Since I've owned it, used only top tier Shell oil (Helix Ultra). Would make a good base for a modded car. >Also has a nice private plate (3 numbers, 3 letters) >Also only used Optimax for last year >Also used Auto Glym products to polish it

bloody gauges. a fully qualified muppett presented himself on my doorstep sunday to fit said gauges. lifted bonnet, scratched head, cup of tea, scratched head, jacked up car, scratched head, cup of tea, scratched head, fiddled under dash, scratched head, went home...............probably for cup of tea:rolleyes: said he couldn't do it, probably 'best' to get nissan to do it, as i already have the gauges 'shouldn't' cost toooooooooooo much - knob. anyhows, my problem is this......i have no problem spending the cash for someone else to do it, but i WANT to do it myself, i was miffed i had called him in the first place, so maybe a blessing in disguise. Bo…

So this is not a carefully hidden advert, but a genuine attempt to start some dialogue on this subject. I'm sure that Craig is already itching to delete this thread so just to ensure that he doesn't: If I was selling my car (and I'm not) it is rotten as a pear, made up from 17 cars cut and shut together, doesn't run, smells of fish, and I'd want £273grand for it (comes with a free punch in the mouth, and is a mini metro too...) But more seriously. As a result of a 'me or the money pit' ultimatum last year I did try to sell it (still got the car and single now - good decision / what decision?). I put together an honest an objective advert, for what I objectively co…

Ok I am sure there is somebody outhere who must like doing heater matrix swaps on a zed but the backbreaking position added to the knuckle skinning experience only must be for the very seriously masochist element! Pic attached shows some of the bits that need removing to do it without removing the dashboard, all that harder in this case as it is a manual and the clutch pedal and booster has to come out! All back in with a brand new martix just ready for fill up in the morning.....spare a thought for a guy I spoke to last year who went through this himself and thought a second hand matrix was a money saver...yes you guessed it when he filled the coolant system …

Tim - I think you are spot on. This post really got me thinking, so much so that I've had a change of heart. I made my 1st post a few weeks ago (having read threads interestedly for weeks beforehand) which eventually ended up with me persuading myself I definately wanted to go get a Zed. Now, I confessed there that my 'under the bonnet' knowledge is pretty limited :o (tho I think I understand the internal combustion engine!) even tho I was prepared to get my hands dirty and learn. I was gonna go to the Bristol meet on the 23rd to start my education:) What I hadn't really figured on is that, inevitably, a ten-year old plus supercar is going to go wrong now and th…

Briefly, want to get a Z - twin turbo - and I need to know the mpg from people who actually drive the car. This has no doubt been asked before but I searched the archives and there were too many matches for me to process - so thought I'd just ask. I do about 120 miles per day, all motorway, as opposed to short sharp journeys. I searched the archive posts and saw people claiming 25-34 mpg - for a 3.0 TT I find anything around 30 and over difficult to swallow. I'm OK cash-wise and I can afford a low-mpg car (otherwise I wouldn't go for a Z :D) but need to keep a reasonable head on. I won't get a Z if it runs lower than 22-ish mpg (I'll switch jobs instead ;) )

Well, just got a report back from the mechanic who has been looking at the car this morning. The opinion is that the oil leak is the rear main oil seal. A mix of gold and red oil was found. Oil is blowing back through the starter motor and onto gearbox bellhousing. He thinks the job should take a day tops but is not in a position to do the job. Checked rocker covers etc and definatley no leaks there. Had to get the report third hand as I am at work, but I hope this makes a level of sense to someone. Any advise on how much this would cost to get done? Jeff, is this the kind of thing you could do on a saturday? TIA Regards, Brent

My car has been standing for about a week now and I have been expecting plumes of blue smoke to come out, but nothing, just white. Ever since I had my Z when I pull off I always get a small puff of white smoke and thats in, nothing else. I just thought that it was only moisture in the exhaust coming out. Now I still get the puff of white smoke when I pull off, but I have noticed it appearing when I am sitting in traffic. What could that be. Its not blue/purple/grey, its white. Any suggestions? Stuart

I'm thinking of getting an ASP underdrive pulley. Are they easy to fit? Anyone got one and know if it uses the standard belts? Seen them for $99 and for about 18bhp on a stock Z, more on a modded one it seems pretty good. http://www.aspracing.com

Just saw this on the Z-Car-Digest and becuase it's written by Tom Bell I tend to believe it. Hey all I've fitted a Stillen intake this afternoon :D but had trouble actually fitting it in the space. My zed's got an uprated oil cooler radiator jobbie (see attachment) which takes up more room than normal. The cone just sqeezed in but is pushed up hard against the top of the rad - I had to pull the rad slightly towards the bumper to let the cone in, now the rad's at a slight angle :( Is this going to create any problems? Any experience of this?? Problem 2 - getting the cover (with badge on) to sit straight -grrr! When the screws are tight it's wonky, when looser it rattles. It was fine before  . Otherwise - feels good :D, a couple of times wh…
