Have been searching the archives and seen quite a few threads about the fast road auto box rebuild a la Mac1. Could anyone answer a couple of questions? 1/ On the subject of changedowns.. when slowing down for a junction, my box stays in the highest gear it can unless the car sops moving. Should the box on a Zed change down gears as it slows as I`ve experienced in other auto cars ? 2/ When accelerating in a sensible fashion:) and the car locks in on third, engaging the overdrive while still on the hot pedal makes the revs increase as the box comes out of lock and into 4th. This wouldn`t be so bad except that revs shoot up by more than they drop when the box loc…

My TT Z needs a new clutch and I want to know what you recomend. Most people say a paddle clutch is too harch for a daily driver but I have driven a GT3000 VR-4 with it and its not that bad. If you recomend any it would be nice to know where to get them.

How exactly does the autobox determine when to change from overdrive/fourth to third gear. Mine seems to be doing it even when cruising or in cruise control the second a slight incline is met leaving me to cruise around in third for most of the time. MPG is bad enough with the overdrive.

Recently got a twin turbo manual h plate reading 47 thousand miles, all seemed well until a couple of days ago when waiting on idle for approx 3 to 5 mins i noticed some blue smoke coming out of the left exhaust pipe so i immediately turned it off and checked everything, levels etc. Nothing amiss so turned it back on and no smoke drove off, lifted revs and nothing. then yesterday waiting on idle it did it again, same exhaust(left), but as soon as you rev it its gone again, when its up to temp and you boot it its fine not a drop, the oil level seems to be same as was when i got it???? what is it ?? is it something sinister, its been de-catted but that was back in november …

Hi folks... I recently bought a set of targa bags and straps from AndyZ (cheers Andy!) but have found out since that I already have the straps fitted to my car (all hidden under the space saver). So if anyone wants to pay the postage, they can have the straps for nowt. Not sure where Andy got them but they look brand new! Take care all

Zed in today for petrol small/ leak, check out the attached pic. The leak is actually under the fuel tank holding strap, looks like the strap has rotted and taken the tank out too! Just be aware if you have a UK spec car they do seem to corrode on the tank straps, this is not the first I have seen and always UK zeds. Jeff TT

For a few days now I have noticed a whining\whistling sound from the passenger side of the engine when accellerating gently. The noise seemed to go away when the car started to pull properly. Tonight I went out for a spin and the whistling/whining was quite loud and there was very little power. I stopped at a garage for a few minutes came back to the car and everything was fine. I booted it to about 80-85 on the way home and the car was pulling like a train. When I got home the car stank of very hot engine Burning maybe?) , from both sides of the car. Does it sound like one of my Turbos is about to give up the ghost? :(:(:(

Has anybody had one of the fit-it-yourself replacement leather interiors from Z Centre in Nottingham? If so, is the leather of the same quality as the factory fitted stuff, and are they a pain in the backside to fit? Cheers

Can anybody tell us if its possible to get hold of a workshop manual for the 300zx. As posted previously my brothers Z'ds clutch has gone and can only scrape enough cash together for the clutch itself (probably from smithy). Since cash is tight, it looks like the spanners will be coming out

A newly imported zed ( 1 week) was in the workshop today for full 60k service, the new owner having concidered the service level to be...unconfirmed. To say this owner has saved himself some serious heartache by getting the belt done before using the car is an understatement, this is in fact despite an engine label confirming a belt swap. Front engine noise was evident when pulled in and as the distmantling proceeded more was revealed. The belt had in fact been changed but quite what the fitter was doing is a mystery. The belt tension was......erm non! the belt had been flapping about most likely a cause of the noise or at least part of it. Then as…

To answer a question asked a few days back the link shows the difference between the UK standard plug on the right compared to the Japanese spec plug on the left. The insulator nose is much shorter on the UK plug and hence is a cooler position than the Japanse spec plug, running the aformentioned on UK petrol leads to the plug possibly running too hot and possible detonation and/or misfire. Having said that see many import zeds running fine on them, which is in part due to a good service levels but in the main charactoristics of each engine ..in my view anyway. Jeff TT

Drove from Brighton to Boxhill on Sunday....noticed in my rear view mirror that I was being followed by a couple of hundred other Z's!! F*ck this I thought, so I floored it but the buggers kept up with me and some had the cheek to overtake me! Right , I thought , I'll teach you all a lesson , so when we got to a roundabout I slipped in close behind a silver Z. He was driving round and round (must have been lost!!) and then all the others just sped off . That'll teach 'em!!!:D :D :D F.T.

Guys probably a silly question but hey wtf. You guys have spent shit loads on yours cars, how do you get the insurance to recongise this? For example if it got stolen they would normally only pay book price no matter what you say its worth, so if you spend 20k getting your zed sorted you don't want a payment back for 5k. How do you get this sorted? Ta Martin
