General Discussions - 300ZX Related

Having recently reverted to a Z, from a GTO, I have always washed it using a jet wash. This was out of habit of having to do this with the GTO to avoid half of the body (ie. spoiler) being ripped off. However, its just dawned on me, that I may not have to do this anymore, and may be able to use a normal car wash(which can get the wheels looking really good!!). Can someone confirm that drive in car washes are ok, before I proceed... ps. I have standard spoiler, with tailgate panel conversion.

For those of you with imports , on the dash left and right of the steering wheel there are two sets of lights , on the right there is overdrive and power etc , but on the left there is a set of lights which have never lit up since I have had the car, anybody know what they are ??:confused:

Read past threads on catch tanks but all seem to be TT related, will this benefit an NA or are the benefits more for track days etc.... Did you finally make or fit one and will they work on an NA. If you have made before, maybe this is what you could use the left over stainless for from the slam panels.... Cheers

Whilst mucking about removing the vaccum pipe from my AIVs came across an unconnected rubber hose at the back of the engine. Heater matrix has been bypassed, fair enough I thought a job to do. On closer examination the pillock who done it has used one of the heater matrix pipes as a bypass. Due to the fact that it is formed to shape, it has bent almost closed where it has been forced on to the other side. Apart from causing my engine to run hot, which it does, I cant think of any other problems. Anyone ? Obviosly am going to rectify it tomorrow :D

I've just installed one and when wired to the +/- teminals, the needle just goes straight to the max and connecting the sender unit wire makes no difference at all. Anyone have any ideas? Cheers Vijay

Done my AIVs today as per this link aiv removal Thought I would add that where the guy who wrote this says to ignore the other large pipe coming out of the AIV (the one that doesnt go to the exhaust and isnt the vaccum pipe) I followed it to a plastic tank under the wing, held on by two bolts and a nut. At first I couldnt get it past the wire looms, but I pushed out the side repeater, disconnected it, and the tank came free. Dont know if others have sussed this, thought I would post it anyway

Hi folks Charlie's Z has snapped its cambelt!!! It occurred as he stopped at a traffic light. The engine just died as he came to a stop as though it had stalled. He tried restarting a few times thinking it had stalled for some weird reason but there was no response from the engine. His garage believes that either the cambelt has snapped or the teeth on the belt has given way. Charlie is not sure as yet but what would be the likely extent of the damage??? Are we talking of slight engine work, reconditioning of engine or replacement????? Cheers in advance Van

Hi all. I've taken delivery of my 3g 20GR's and my Mintex 1144's. Now then, any ideas which way round to fit them? Agressive way round or not. Much difference in wear or performance? Cheers, Matt.

I am looking at importing a short wheel base 300Z (2 seater) form Japan through Bonsai Cars. Has anyone had any experience of this? Are there any potential problems in running a short wheel base 300z in the UK? Your comments would be appreciated. Regards Matt

Hi, just looked on Ebay at a 300zx there, it looks to me like the front might be lower on the passenger side, the result of a front end crash perhaps. This often happens when the chassis leg is too low/high, poor repair etc. Hard to tell as the photos are not at the right angle, but anyone interested might need to look hard. Hope its not anyone on here, and if I am wrong I am sorry.

Just how much of the dash has to come out to fit the clutch pedal and are the connectors for the switches on it already on the harness somewhere? I had a right struggle to get the bolt nearest the driover out of the brake pedal and thought the clutch would squeeze in but it looks like I need to take some of the dash out to get it in :( Any advice? (getting ready for "should have stuck with an auto!") :D

The IAA unit, air regulator etc?? It's hard enough to get to the three screws I can see - apparently there's another one on the underside out of sight and pretty well out of reach - anyone else removed this unit? Some preparatory disassembly of other components needed? Advice appreciated (as ever). Cheers! RobH

Evening :) I've got an Autometer Water Temp Gauge to fit, and I presume this piece included in the box is a new sensor? (see attached) Question is - should I fit the new sensor in place of the old one, and wire both new and old gauges to it. Or leave the old in, and wire both to it. Or will one not work in each case? Obviously I'd like the new gauge to work ;) Will this new sensor even fit the hole in the noraml hard coolant pipe? Cheers people :) Pete Oh yeah - the attachment...

What ya think the rarest colour for a Z32 is?? Ya generally see white ,black,silver and red.Im not talking about 1 off colours here,just factory paint?Theres a yellow one knockin about but im pretty sure tat aint factory.Or has anyone got a list of all the Z colours including imports?? I used silicon grease (from Maplin) to try to cure the leaks from the T-top. But in this hot weather it just runs out, gets to thin in this heat. Does anyone know of an alternative product ? Thanks John

Chaps and chapesses, I spent Sunday afternoon learning how to take apart the front interior of the Z, in order to find out exactly what had shorted under there, and hence why I was in limp-home mode. (Amazing how fast you can get to 60 in fifth changing up at 2500 revs on a motorway slip road. :-) ) It turns out that iggy power and one of the A-pillar gauge casings had collided due to inadequate insulation. Lesson: Inspect all mods yourself as soon as possible after purchase. Hi All, Not sure how long the big rubber intake hoses are meant to be but mine don't appear to be long enough to reach right up to the stops on both the throttle bodies and the metal air intake pipes at the front of the car - do they shrink with age? Has my engine rocked backward or something?? It's not causing a major problem but I'm not happy thinking they won't seal as well as they might... Cheers! RobH

Does anyone know the Law regarding how a front number plate should be mounted? There is loads of information about what the number plate should look like, but nothing on how it is mounted. Anyone? Mike
