S-AFC dead - can it be resurrected?

Chaps and chapesses,

I spent Sunday afternoon learning how to take apart the front interior of the Z, in order to find out exactly what had shorted under there, and hence why I was in limp-home mode. (Amazing how fast you can get to 60 in fifth changing up at 2500 revs on a motorway slip road. :-) )

It turns out that iggy power and one of the A-pillar gauge casings had collided due to inadequate insulation. Lesson: Inspect all mods yourself as soon as possible after purchase. Everything's back together except the passenger footwell - rain stopped play last night - so hopefully this evening it'll be more like a Z and less like a diesel!

Luckily - if we can call this lucky - the short was on the S-AFC side of the circuit and seems to have taken only the S-AFC out. (Although I won't be surprised if the Splitfire gauge has died as a result - will find out later.)

So the questions are:

Will the S-AFC itself have a fuse, and if so will the fuse be easy to replace if I get the back off? Likewise for the Splitfire oil pressure monitor. I know the rest of the oil sensor circuit has survived because the stock gauge is still reading.

Is the wiring harness available seperately and how much is it likely to cost? I'd rather replace it altogether since long stretches of the insulation on the ig power cable are half-melted. Plus, I wanted to move it into the glovebox in any case.

I plan to run without the AFC until the above is sorted - how far is it wise to crank up the AVC-R without it? I do have an SE chip which I should think will cope with extra fuelling up to a certain point.

Any advice gratefully recieved. Sorting it out of course means the battery's already been disconnected long enough to reset the ECU.

regards,

Zack

Well, looks like I'm talking to myself... :-) Since no-one has replied I'm assuming the S-AFC can be declared dead.

BUT last night I finished putting the footwell back together and took it out for 50 miles or so to let the EMC relearn and set the AVC-R up again. (I've turned the boost down a little too, since now only the SE chip is managing the fuelling.) It would have been 100 miles except it started -really- peeing down.

And guess what? Erratic idle has gone, boost wobble gone, no hestitation anywhere in any gear up to a ton, and it is really really shifting. So in actual fact, I don't think I'm gonna bother with the S-AFC at all!

Splitfire oil pressure gauge still not working though - any guesses?

And, I've moved the AVC-R display into the bottom slot on the dash - just kinda wedged in for now - has anyone mounted it here properly and if so, how did you do it?

Zack

PS Apologies to anyone I scared the crap out of in Trafford Park last night. :D
