Today seen how far you can take a cam belt mileage .... to extreams that resulted in the pics attached! a non starter? the engine had failed at relatively low speed, after removing the belt and setting the timing (valve and crank way out) a new belt and away she went no noise just purred away with NO damage not bad for a 145k miler on what looks like the original belt! Slowed to 70mph, he came past with his thumbs up giving me the the universal 'sweet' sign.......and mouthed "What brake is that?" Hi peeps, My boost gauge is not working (or is actually working as a nice barometer). I've traced the hoses to the hard pipes on the drivers side of the plenum, and from there the top goes to the throttle chamber entry, and the bottom goes towards the front (under the big top throttle hose). The gauge is currently connected to the bottom hard pipe. My question - should the vacuum gauge be connected to the top hard pipe (i.e. the throttle) or the bottom (which is I don't know what!!!)? If I swap these to test, will I endanger my precious engine? I don't believe I've got vacuum leaks (if I reroute the gauge hose to the balance bar I get good idle vacuum, a…

I remember reading a post a while back about a company (I believe they were in Ireland) who make number plates mail order. I have legally bought a cherished plate but it will take a few weeks to process. As the new legislation states that I cannot purchase a number plate until the transfer paperwork has been completed, I'm simply looking to buy the plates now, so that they're ready (ie. without having to provide proof of reg. number ownership first)... Anyone know the company I'm referring to, or any similar ones????

I've read loads of posts about the type of oil everyone uses, but was wondering about this Slick 50 stuff. It's basically an oil additive that you stick in and it reduces wear and increases performance (supposedly!!) Has anyone used it on there Z? Cheers Rod

I apologise if this is a stupid question but it is the duty of newbies to ask em.. :D I'm thinking of getting this car from http://www.prestigemotorsport.co.uk but I would love to get some experienced people's opinion of how much it is worth here with all those mods?

Had a busy week in the workshop post Billing, as usual had a few cam belt jobs in and one in particular should serve as a warning to how NOT to get the job done, it is not a technically hard job but familiarity makes it much easier, no doubt many garages are more than able to perform a belt swap but can make mistakes due to lack of direct experience in the 300zx. This particular zed had some known history and was said to have had a belt change prior to the present owner buying it. Looking throught the attched pics what was obvious from the copious amounts of orange sealant everywhere was someone had definately been in there lately. However to start the intake t…

Hi All, I think I've narrowed down my less than perfect top end performance to boost leaks. I get some detonation when I floor it - more noticable with extra passengers/weight on board - preumably the detting will cause the ecu to switch to safety boost mode and retard my ignition - the boost stays high as I'm using an AVC-R, detonation continues due to high boost (stop me if I'm talking cr*p already..). I'm assuming my leaks are the cause of the initial detonation... I get some whistly hissy noises from one side when boost kicks in and am plagued with a noise like goosehonk which may well be a leak around the intercooler. Can anybody confirm or deny …

Hi all, I have found a guy who used to work on Z's for Nissan. He does private work, now works on Range Rovers which he hates, wants £80.00 for a cam belt change plus belt. Seems to know his onions. I will post when he's done it, about 3 weeks as he is off on hols.

Hiya mac so i have to take the plenum off. from ur picture its basically the top part of the engine how big of a job is that. iv seen the scimatics on the courtesy website for the positions of all the hoses and there all over the ****ing place the one that is leaking and giving me the problem is the one rear of the engine. if i take the top part of the engine off will i be able to access all the hoses at the rear. Other than the hose which is behind the gearbox are there any other hoses that are diffucult to replace on the zed. My mechanic has replaced a few of the hoses on the zed from previous customers. But never all of them (hes dreading to…

On a conzult u can record M/R F/C MNT-L and M/R F/C MNT-R, giving a rich or lean status. Is this basically the same as the o2 sensors voltage readings or does it get this info some other way? Reason i ask is im always getting lean status, yet my o2 sensors are disconnected as i still havent got round to putting my new ones in.

Hi Guys I know people have 19's on their Zed's but are there any problems with having 19 inch alloys. My new Zed has 18's on at the moment but i dont like them (5 spoke) so if i'm changing them i might put 19's on as long as there are no problems Cheers Kirbz

Been looking at this whole crap headlight scenario. Has anyone tried fitting new lights? (yes, it was sttarted by that conversion at Billing, but I refuse to pay £900 for it, I know I am tight, read the name) I was thinking about someof these semi-spherical driving lights fixed into the front bumper, either side of the plate. Opinions? would this just look duff?

I have searched the previous posts on vibration, non seam to be exactly like mine. I can feel vibration in the seat back which starts at about 40 and ends at about 50 or 55, and it does not seem to occur after been run for a while. Does this rule out prop shaft bearing ? If this bearing was gone would it get progressively worse with speed ? I have only had the car a couple of months, I have not had the prop shaft off, but I dont know if the previous owner did. Thanks John

My poor baby has taken to violently jolting at any speed(though curiously only when warm)and also rough idling. She hasn't been used much and I wondered if this coincided with the rain getting into her somewhere.Stuart(smw1) told me it sounds like the o2 sensors, but anyone else's pearls of wisdom would be greatly appreciated. Cheers all, Jon:(
