I have just put my car back together for its 1st MOT (under my ownership) and have just discovered a problem that I have inherited from the last owner. Initially the side lights and headlights were working OK. Go to main beams and the RH headlight went out. I looked further and found that the 15A fuse for the RH headlight was missing (surely without this fuse the headlight should not have worked at all). Replacing the fuse and the main beams worked....yay!! Unfortunately this then meant that the dip beams did not work!!. The previous owner obviously lost his headlights but discovered that removing the fuse fixed the problem in the short term!!! Anyone had this…

Any tips, hints or general advice gratefully received on how best to replace these. I've done the valves themselves and the rear hoses that connect to the valves but I still need to do the front ones. I'll probably not bother with the one at the very back of the engine bay. Cheers. Martin.

Hello (again) folks, If the rear turbo seals are going would this result in a decrease in oil pressure? I'm pretty sure mine is fine although the readings do tend to vary very slightly from time to time when the car is fully warmed up. My car reads 2 mmHg at 2000 revs when fully warmed up (TT manual). Is this about right? Trying not to get paranoid about oil pressure but I find myself watching the oil presure guage more than the speedo when driving ! Thanks. Martin.

Hello folks, Is it possible to inspect the rear turbo seals whilst the turbos are still fitted to the car? If they are going would you normally see evidence of oil leaks from a visual inspection from underneath the car? I should really get my zed on a set of ramps anyway and have a good look underneath. Cheers. Martin.

In case anyone wishes to replace their poor quality H3C jap bulbs with PIAA brighter bulbs, the following UK link may be of help as they stock H3C thus eliminating the soldering mod needed with H3 bulbs though little more expensive than H3. H3c's in super white and plasma only though Link

Hi all, Just to add to Macca's post, I was down @ SE today and took some pictures of the cracked suspension arms that the tension rods attach to. Very worrying so as mentioned before it's defo worth getting your car checked out if you have the poly bushings. Sorry about the picture size but I wanted to make sure that no detail was lost.

Hi All, I need to do some testing on some fuel system components but need to find 'em first! All the 'how to's' I've read are based on a US 2 seater - fuel tank and compnents are in a very different location on this. I have found something that looks like it was designed by Heath Robinson beneath the rear drivers side passenger seat (near the speaker) - seems to have a load of fuel pipes running into it so I presume this is the fuel pump control unit (?) It's covered by a big rubber 'hump'. Would I be right in thinking that I have to remove the panel (4xphilips) in the middle of the floor of the boot to get at the fuel pump harness connectors?? An…

For those of you with long memories, you may recall that a bunch of us had new PCV valves fitted in the hope it would cure smoky turbos. Well, mine did - sort of. The symptoms (for me, anyway) were that in normal use, no smoke. But when it had been left in idle for a period of several minutes (eg at an MOT test), both exhausts would start to blue smoke. This disappeared after a few minutes of normal driving. But still worrying. I had the PCV valves replaced in June and everything seemed to be fine. During the next MOT (Aug) the smoke returned - first from the left bank then the right. But a lot less than it used to be so clearly, clearing the breathing…

I just had a mini-saga with my airconditioning which I hope might useful if you're having the same problems. During a 6 hour drive to Cumbria on the hottest day of the year (natch) it stopped working. The temp of the air varied and then the water temp guage would climb way high. Turn the aircon off and slowly the guage would go back to normal. When I got back home, I had it regassed by Mark IV Aircon in Langley. They used a new gas (R134a) and a new type of oil. It cost £78.38. I had rung several people and been told that I needed to replace seals and use a blend gas and (lots of other stories). Quotes varied up to £120 or more. I asked the guys at Mar…

Got a problem with moderate levels of vibration in my new zed. Seems to be rev related, between 3 & 4k. Previous owner informs me that drift shaft barings have been replaced. From searching here it seems to be gear box mounts and drive shaft balancing are likely candidates. Is there anything else to look at? Any top tips on diagnosing problems like this or a best order to attack the likely causes? Cheers David

Hi All, A bit like SRAEs problem I think... I've noticed for some time that my power seems to go a bit flat when I floor it - my head goes back as the turbos kick in but power levels off when I give it some throttle. After a 500 mile journey - trundling along at 70-80mph, I floored it a couple of times when almost home, nice as the turbos kicked in then massive drop in power - really noticeable - even the other half commented. Feathering the throttle allows much better acceleration than flooring it. Apart from that I'm still getting some detonation with moderate acceleration in the higher gears - sounds like air flow sensor or fuel pressure to me - any…

My clutch has been a right pain in the ass, used to slip occasionally and pedal adjustment hardly helped. I read somewhere that 89- 91's had a dodgy master cylinder but no one new anything about it and just said i needed a new clutch. A brand spanking new rps jobby from smithy was installed and i still had exactly the same problem, even tho my Z's very low on power. Just found this- http://www.twinturbo.net/net/viewmsg.aspx?forum=technical&msg_id=4610 and this is definately the problem i have. As the day goes on my clutch gets worse and worse then the next morning it will be fine. Infact on Saturday i was stuck on a 3 lane ringroad with me hazards flashing u…

Things were going well but but something else has cropped up now. When I drive the car for about ten miles or more the Hicas warning light comes on and stays on!!!! Is this going to be pricey to fix?? Also, mainly when cold but sometimes when hot, if you stay at a constant speed then it's as if the car hiccups or coughs. Almost like a hesitation. It's fine when your accelerating, the problem only occurs at a constant speed. Also what should the car be idling at, when I got it it was around 600 revs but now its a 1000. The car is booked into SE Nissan beginning of September for my sticky gearshift and the rest of this stuff. The question is do I need to rob a bank beforeha…
