General Discussions - 300ZX Related

After a couple of miles driving, i get an awful squeak from the front nearside hub, had the wheel bearing replaced a couple of weeks ago, and it stopped doing it for all of about 500 miles, now its back and louder than ever. It only does it at speeds upto 20 mph, and only after a few miles of driving , so i guess its something caused by heat, I know its nothing to do with the brakes as ive had the discs and callipers off and spun the wheel and it still does it. Can something else on the hubb be knackered causing it to eat wheel bearings at an alarming rate? Its going to the menders on thursday, any ideas of what i should get them to look at? bloody noise is…

Hi, just wondering why its recommended to change the water pump with a cam belt renewal? What do you look for to make you decide to change it if its a 'take a look' scenario. Reason is, i have a belt but some people say change the water pump. WHY??? thanks :bow:

The driver front brake disk is wobbleing when I take the wheel off while the otherside doesnt :( Is that the wheel bearing?

Having read the guide on buying a Z it appears my car has a problem! :( When I accelerate the boost guage blips to -3 then goes up to +9 (normal) I did this about 20 times on the Mway yesterday and I got the same thing. On idle the needle sits at 0! When I take my foot off the accelerater after boost the guage reads -5 and the goes back to 0! remains at 0 on normal driving, again on acceleration the guage blips to - then to +psi. My engine runs smooth with no whines or funny noises, no smoke, no turbo noises, starts first time, oil pressure +50 running to +15 at idle. The guide says Ive got a problem! :( :( Engine replaced in Aug 03. I have had no problem…

I'm about to respray my 300ZX. I want to spray it purple, and I know that some (very rare) 300ZX's came out the factory in purple. Does anyone know the paint code for the purple 300ZX's, and even better, does anyone have any photos of the standard Nissan purple. Please email me some pics if you have some (geewhizz@onetel.net.uk) To give you an idea of how few came out the factory purple, I have seen approx 500 Z's, of which two were the Nissan purple. I'll be having my zorst fitted sometime in the week, if anyone wants the stock cat back give me a shout, if not ill get the fitter to junk em. I dunno what the condition of them is, they dont blow so they cant bee too bad.

Hi, I just started my Z, (been out in it this afternoon and all ok), started fine but no tickover. Took it for a gentle drive, alls OK, got back still no idle. Disconnected the battery for about 10 mins, and now it wont start at all. battery spins the engine over really well, fuel pump runs and then stops as it should. But nothing. Help. Series 2 jap auto.

Evening all, Just been changing my discs and calipers, but when it came to undoing the joint where the rear brake line joins the hardpipe I got a little stuck, it si difficult to get any spanner in there and the space is restrictive to getting any force on it. Any ideas??

where is the det sensor would a major boost leak also give fault 34 steve :confused:

Ok I think ive decided to go for a 300ZX TT over the Skyline GTS, However Ive just spoke to my local importers and they say they have had a few reliability problems with the 300ZX, but I figure no one is going to know better than everyone on this forum. So, has anyone out there had any problems with there 300ZX's, what should I look out for? Is one year of the model better than any others? Hi everyone, just wondering if any of you fellow z owners could help me with a irritating creaking sound from my front left suspension. Its not there all the time just every other day. Ive noticed its when the weather has got crap. Ive had the car for 6 months and it was ok all summer but when it started snowing etc... it began. Are Z's prone to any problems like this. Ive asked a few mecanicaly minded people and they say it could be 'a dry joint' ??? also i know the bearings are ok. It only creaks on the bigger bumps and if i change direction. Its not rythmical(if you know what i mean) (creak, creak,creak)but its loud!! cheers Johno :dance:

Those big (approx 1/4" dia) drain holes in the t-top gutter, where do they drain to? I tried to see if they are blocked by putting a small dia. wire down, but the wire dead ends within about an inch? Do they turn sideways? Thanks John

Guys More prep for thrashing it on a track..... Any tips on where to fit in the cabin? I would guess on the passenger side of the gearbox tunnel but I'm worried that if I drill two holes to mount it what am i drilling into and will it create two attack zones for the dreaded rust or even worse two holes for water to ingress into the cabin ? Has anyone fitted one and if so where and how ? As always much appreciated.... Mark

Hi, when replacing the speedo dial on my import to a UK unit, i noticed one connection on the back was different at the top right hand corner, on the Japenese unit it was connected to a point marked 100k on the green board, on the UK dial its connected to a point marked 5k, do I need to leave as it was on the UK or change it to the Japanese way? was going to replace the whole unit of rev fuel temp in one go but one of the plugs on the back was the wrong size. What a difference. I couldn't believe it would make this much of a difference. It was feeling squishy and just 'wrong'- I had the front and back at about 28. Now 32 and 35 and it feels like a different car. The back feels higher and tighter and as if when I steer the car is going the direction I want it to. I had done a search and it seems I'm not the only one who had been using the wrong pressures. Just couldn't believe one simple thing could make it feel so different driving.

just got clutch master cylinder and its different from the one in the car - mine has the fluid pot a bit further forward and staggered and the fluid exit on the bottom!! the new one has the pot straight up and exit on the right!! does anyone know if this is this a change in year (from 1990) and is it easy to get new connectors or is this difference because mines a swb model?? darren

Hi everyone, ive just registered on this forum and i currently own a Starlet Gt Turbo. However im looking to change my car to either a 300ZX Twin Turbo or a Skyline GTS Turbo, ive got upto £9000 to spend on the car and have loads of info on the skyline but could do with as much info on the 300ZX as possible, performance, servicing etc etc. Has anyone out there owned both, how do they compare.
