General Discussions - 300ZX Related

When an auto has been converted to a manual should the timing be changed to 15°BTC or left at 35°BTC? I have removed the auto ECU and fitted a fuse box loom from a manual.

As above how long is this? The Inland empire driveshaft i have has the following dimensions, Tubular barrell length 38" Yoke entering gearbox 6" visible with about another 2" inside gearbox. I think this is for a SWB and need to order a new one!

Ok. Just done a AUTO box diagnostic test. The sequence looks like this ___ _ ___ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ it says the long flash is not to be counted as it is the start of the sequence but I get a long flash then 1 short flash followed by another long flash and 8 smaller flashes. I have gathered that this must mean it is telling me two faults. If so then according to the code checker it means 1st fault: Revolution sensor 2nd fault: Gearbox Fluid Temperature sensor how can I fix these and would this be the cause of my car stop pulling when I boot it at high speeds… (older posts of mine) which I believed were a boost fault as between 60 – 9…

As my Z is fast approaching 120,000 miles now and I fear the worst of such things as turbo`s and timing belt I thought maybe a V8 conversion could be an option. I was looking for information on whether or not the standard Z 5 speed box would be compatible? Which V8 engine to go for? Who could actually do the conversion for me? And a rough estimate of costs? hi all. my uk tt manwel go a bit hot and the head gasket on drivers side went pop. so ive stripped it down with the intention of replacing both head gaskets and also while i am on i would like to replace the smoking turbos. so the questions go which head gasket should i use? which turbo seals to use given the fact its decatted with a larger exhaust i see there is a lot of speak of removing egr gear and a direct feed bypass for the turbo water feeds. also i am contenplating repalcing the intercoolers and possibly the turbos but what a rough idea of what the experts might suggest as sensible mods, i can see that this could snowball ve…

Well I haven't really had a lot to write about or show piccy's of for a while now but things are finally moving :dance: Bought a new compressor last week and ordered the bearings which were the two things holding me up. I finished gapping the rings and cleaning the pistons ready for the build which was the last job to do and was reasonably easy. They're all nice and tidy wrapped up in brown paper numbered up sitting in a box. I've made a change in the way i'm mounting the engine. Iv tried everything else to cure my dett problem and was just thinking that my fuel pump might be the cause. its very noisey most of the time and may be causing it to run lean. might be way wrong but i am running out if ideas now. Already changed O2 sensors, checked timing belt and Adjusted Tps to 40 and fixed timing to 15 degrees. Oh also tried another ECU just to be sure. Put in a Octane boost as fuel here is crap. but might not have been a good brand. Have i missed something.

what size are stock door speakers? 6" or 6.5" I have some components in mine which are fusion ones which are ok but may like to change them one day and what to know what size to look out for. :cool:

Hi all, i need to get some new tires for the back of my car 265/30/19 and i dont have much money, i know most people will say save up and get some really good ones but the company i deal with say kenda tires are not the bottom but are reasonable, has anyone had any experience of these tires please?

Lights on steering heavy. Oil level bit low but topped up, turn the key off and then on hicas fine. WTF This is really pi$$ing me off, may be a oil leak? how easy is to remove this system but keep power to the steering. Now the level is normal it still plays up after about 5 mins of driving. Last time it did this i changed the oil and all was good for about a month. Confussed any one know of a solution. Thanks Damo

Ok, as my car has some faults that need sorting and the gearbox could possibly be dieing aswell i had some thinking today and some conversations with my wife. I was explaining how i would like to take the car off the road and fix the auto gearbox or make it manual. Whilst i mentioned that we agreed that as i wanted to rebuild the engine next year anyway i might aswell rebuild that at the same time. So after we both finally made some agreements the new project could be starting anytime soon..... The plan will be to take the engine out of the car and store the car somewhere. I only have a standard size garage so i don't think i will be able to fit the ca…

Hello. Seriously considering buying an automatic 300zx with th intention to turn it into a manual in the future. But my problem ....... ive never drove an automatic and was wonderign exactly how.lol On the twin turbo zed, do both turbos have to kick in before it changes gear or can you change gear without the turbos coming in? Does it cost abit more cash wise on petrol if the turbos are always kicking in before changing gear? Some help please for the auto boxes out there:rofl:

Was a passenger so not in my zed....looked very nice...first one ive seen in ages.!....

as you all know i have a boosting problem (atleast i think it is) however i have noticed that on every start up i get the power light flash 15 times. when driving i have noticed that third will only come in if the revs are fairly high. Fourth (overdrive) is fine .......... so far i have also tried counting the gears yesterday and i swear on numerous occasions it felt like i got 5th????! now obviously this is not fifth so something must be slipping when i bought the car it had an aftermarket gear shifter without the overdrive button..... i did find kind of think this was odd but i had presumed the older owner did not know about preserving the gear …

thinking about this for a while now, my daily drive is a new beemer 5 series and when you shut the door or go for a drive its just sounds solid :bow: now i was thinking some sound proofing/deadning would make the zed sound a little more chunky if you know what i mean :hyper: am i on the right tracks with this? doing as much as i can doors/underfloor/boot/bulkhead will this help? im sure bassologist on here sells the stuff :nana2: any thoughts gents

Just thought id share a few photos of a massive tech day held in Victoria yesterday which i attended and had a blast of a time. I was on a mission to check as many zeds with Conzult as i could. It was a bad day for knock sensor codes the silver slicktop ended up with the worst recorded figures from conzult. knock sensor code, only 1 cylinder firing properly and i think o2 sensors needed replacing. I also spent alot of the day going back and forth between socialising groups discussing all kinds of zed related stuff and what not. I unfortunately had to leave at 3pm due to work commitments.

how good is it to be back driving the zed!! this has to be the best money iv spent on the car so far, cant believe how much i like the manual box better i feel alot more safer and in control of the car alana says it scares her more now though lol much thanx to john300zx for the kit, jefftt for the speedy service on the reverse switch and james my mechanic for fitting it all. is it morning yet so i can go out and wash her and take her back out lol
