I was looking for information on whether or not the standard Z 5 speed box would be compatible?

 

Which V8 engine to go for?

 

Who could actually do the conversion for me?

 

And a rough estimate of costs?

Probably more than getting a rebuilt VG and some new turbos. John has a fully built V8 and it's cost him somewhere near £20k....and he's done most of it himself. Cheapest option is to fit an old yank V8.

As above speak to bantambunny or john dixon, oh and if i was to do it it, would have to go for the vh45! the engine the 300zx should have had imo ;)

At least double the cost of rebuilding a VG30 eng.

Z32 box not compatible I dont think.

Strangely enough i've got a spare racing chevy small block from a lemans car this week which wouldn't take much to get it running again. I also have a front subframe ready to accept a chevy and a rear prop ready to get converted.

 

All in all including the engine and the bits to finish it off i'd say you could do a pretty decent job for just under £3000 including all the bits and pieces to get it hooked up and be pulling about the 350-400bhp mark pretty reliably. Then bolt on goodies later on would push you over the 500bhp mark. Chevy engine's are very easy to get big bhp off and add nitrous and you're talking silly numbers.

 

You can use a World Class Borg Warner T5 gearbox off an sierra/tvr then use the ford clutch plate and chevy flywheel/bellhousing.

 

I'm using a tremek tk500 box but only as that's been built to take 500bhp and 500ft/lb of torque but the WC T5 should take close to that, very good gearboxes.
