good stuff... i noticed the other day that my butterflies seemed to be slightly out of sync, but i didnt want to mess with it. how were you checking these, with the pipes removed by eye? maybe a little write up on the procedure when you get time as its such a common fault and overlooked parameter? :D

i've been informed by another member who has a series 2 that he had the same problem as myself and had to turn the nut land down 2mm. it settles my mind that i have no abnormal parts fitted!.. there must be a variation of the upper mounts somewhere along the line. need to find a lathe now...

yeah thatll be the cad plating... they deffo have the stepped internal thread that you can remember? dont understand why mine differs. my only thought at the mo is that series 2's had shorter studs on the top mounts! :confused:

nah i believe you chap... you sure your nuts are the same as mine. there is quite a step in the nut before the thread starts. could be a series 1/2 alteration too maybe (mine is a 93). everything is definately mounted flush.

Blowover Vs Full Re-spray
my interpretation of the 2 a blowover is one where you only paint external visable surfaces the same colour as the car and would involve minimal prep (relative to a full repaint) maybe without even removing bumpers etc. a close friend of mine runs a very reputable paintshop that does cars for photoshoots and magazines etc where the average price for a decent blowover would be in the region of 2k+. advantage of a blow over is that its a cheap way of sprucing up tired paintwork on the main visable parts of the car. it should never be used when using a different colour paint! unless your going for some crazy new fashion style! a full respray would involve all visable surfaces such as door shuts, engine bay, boot shut, underneath doors etc etc being painted. alot more prep work required, could involve a colour change, everything into the deepest darkest crevises that aren't fully covered up have fresh paint to make your car feel new again. the same paintshop as above, you would be looking in the region of 4k+ and if you are to find corrosion and it turns into a full restoration then you are talking big numbers! all imo, im sure different people interpret differently. my advice would be to research and choose a place you would want to get it done and talk to them about it.

lol all these replies.. lets have a little plough through them! i am also an engineer and i have to disagree with that... if i tried that one at work i could be looking at a nice long prison sentence! though im sure some fields of engineering have will have slightly lower tolerance and different philosophies so im not saying hes wrong :) ... the 'different nut' route is the most obvious and easy 1 to take at the moment. im not sure if your confused about my setup though as i do have oem shock mounts with kyb shocks and avo springs. im a little unsure why some people are reporting that they have similar setups with (im assuming) a carbing bar and not having fitment issues. budget airlines over here matey... they flew in... so they will fly out! id have to check my aviation maintenance handbook to brush up on what the current standard practice is :confused: ...but i cant be assed! either way you look at it they are not in safety and i wont be using the carbing until i resolve a solution lol. hmmm, and you are using a carbing? and what year is your car? why do you think that i wouldnt like option 2? behind using shallow nuts its the next best solution. i would definately spot them to save them being a pita! i also have oem top mounts so in theory our fitments should be the same. ^^ :) yep 100%, everything is sitting as it should. what year is your car? and do you have a carbing?

fitted my carbing strut bar the other day and im concerned by the threads on the shock turret mounts... as you can see, the thread isnt into what i would class, in my line of work, as 'in safety'. 1.5 threads should come through or its a no go. should the carbing have a different type of nut to fasten it down? cheerZ

aah so there is a difference in cost... so maybe nissan stopped using the nrv to save money? a bit like when they removed the boost gauge? am i the only 1 to be thinking logically around here?
