What did you do to your zed today?
Looking sweet gaz.. . I finally managed to get the valve caps off that had welded themselves on.. Had to gringo them off with a Dremel! Cheaper than the £50 the local tyre centre wanted to replace the valves... Good news is that after finding the tyre pressures were all below 24 psi and varied wildly on each wheel, after inflating to the correct pressures, the steering slop has more or less gone!! On another note, the spare parts I have left from the breaker are very likely soon going to be taking a trip to the recycle centre as I need the space back. I've posted a for sale thread in the parts section, so if anyone is in need of these bits or wants spares, please don't hang around as they will be scrapped which would be a shame. There's various bits including a bonnet, fuel tank with straps amongst the bits.. Get in there if you want anything, prices are cheap

What did you do to your zed today?
Just finished fitting the new perspex strip with light and new emblem. I am confused as to why Nissan decided to not put the holes required in the bootlid to fit the strip.. I guess it wasn't a part on the series one, but the Dremel was put to use.. Finally its installed.. This brings me on to my next puzzle... My original perspex strip always had the indentation where the brake light is integrated in to it. However, when I removed it, I was fairly suprised to find the strip actually has a light in it too. The original bulb holder was used but the bulbs had blown.. The thing that is baffling me is, why would you have a brake light that no light can penetrate? Held up to the light or a torch shone through and there's nothing... So why would there be lenses etc if the bulbs won't light up visibly anyway??? # confused. Com Any clues anyone?

To be honest Chris I've not checked those bushes but the mot was done end of February and nothing was mentioned about them? Possibility though, I'll have a look. I've noticed when I'm driving in a straight line there seems to be some deviation. It's not smooth, but feels almost like a buckled rim or tyre at the front.. I'm going to have the wheels balanced again soon as I'm sure there's a weight come off. At least I can rule that out and feel what's actually going on, but last year on the mot I was told there was slight play in front driver side and rear pass side top suspension bushes. Maybe once the coil overs go on this might cure it? As for the trick with the lower arms, sounds like a good way but unfortunately the whole leg assembly is on my table in the garden  too late me thinks lol

The steering seems to be a little how can I say it?? Less responsive than desired and both the front and rear end feels a little wobbly.. It's on oem stuff at the moment and just doesn't feel particularly stable. I have lost the rear end on a few occasions when it really wasn't expected. Feels a little like it's got a flat sometimes..

Exploding ball joint? Never had that happen before lol.. I'm going to bin the lower arm as it'll be replaced by the drift works one.. Still not really sure which way to go with the setup really.. Been advised against changing the arms etc but I need to do something to improve the handling and response as it feels sloppy at the moment. Anyone got any suggestions as I'm kinda getting frustrated.. What's the best setup for a road car that's comfortable, sharpens everything up and improves the handling?

On the lighter note, I found the breaker I've got has a full set of bilstein shocks in good working condition.. Still, I've had to work to get the sods off!

OK, quick question to see if I can keep my sanity intact.. Removal if the bottom ball joint on the lower arm.. I've heated and soaked the nut but everytime I try to turn it, the whole ball joint us turning.. So, I puts a ball joint splitter in and hammered it in to place... Still, although stiffer, the whole joint is turning with the nut.. Anyone have an answer to this or am I getting the acetylene out?

Can anyone remind me who it is that built the 10" sub box in the boot floor? I'm thinking andrewg, but can't remember.. I'm looking for the templates he had available as I'd like to build one myself..

This coming from the guy with the impeccably clean Z  If mine was as clean as yours Joely, my list would consist of wax and... Polish??? Can't think of anything else right now lol. I'm sure you've got a list longer than most by now that you've checked off so far.. I certainly haven't ever found fault with it. One to be admired for sure

Yes I sympathise.. My list is getting lengthier than I imagined it would be by now.. Problem is, the wallet is getting thinner aswell

What did you do to your zed today?
I spent Saturday picking bits off the breaker.. Got a blue dash, the bar under the dash, hicas steering column unit, bonnet in fairly good condition (other than a couple of pin dents) heater matrix and box. Matrix was perfect but someone cut the connectors off to get it through the bulkhead??? Why??? Starter motor, air con pump, various pipes for the turbo system etc.. Got nuts, screws and bolts everywhere! Still got to take all the suspension, diff and subframes off.. Other than those and the front rear screens and quarter glass, she's almost a shell ready for the metal yard.. Unless of course you want a shell? Sills will require work but other than that it's quite clean I believe..

What wheel size are you running? I had 19" on mine for a while but they were back breaking with the suspension on stock. Can't be having a ride like that.. Totally ruins you and the car in the long run

I thought you looked a bit odd when we last met but I didn't wanna say anything  Like I said though, plasti dip if used on the applications it's meant for, is a marvelous product. I've coated many metal objects in the past that have served purpose for years without issue. It all depends on how well it's applied and what it's being applied to. If it's a high use item that's going to come in to contact with the elements, you should use a substance more suitable such as powder coating etc. Plasti dip is more for protecting things that arent exposed to harsh use or abuse. I used it to protect garden ornaments and metalwork etc, I've used it for plastic parts in cars aswell, never used it on wheels etc as they are obviously exposed to harsh elements and prone to being chipped etc. Everything has its applications si and everything has its limits to what it can be used for.. Anyway, just a suggestion as you're all ears.. Cotton bud for those spuds mate!?

What did you do to your zed today?
Nothing wrong with plasti dip si. Depends on the application and more importantly, the applicator.. Lol

I think mine are leaking on the top seals Ian, the bit around the top of the glass. I'm getting water dropping in to the lining on the inside of the targa and its soaked the vinyl and separated the lining from the targa

Thanks Ian, that was my thought too but wasn't sure

What did you do to your zed today?
I'm having issues with the targas leaking Ian.. Think it's coming in under the seal on the glass on drivers side.. Whilst I'm here, has anyone hot any idea on these plugs? I know the large block is the mirror control, the smallest is the cigarette lighter, but what's the 4 pin white block for? Any clues guys..

Took a drive over to Battlesbridge today to meet up with Mike Feeney to collect my new perspex strip with brake light. Met some new faces and a couple of familiar ones too. Nice little venue and its a monthly meet so if anyone fancies a trip down next time, let me know.. Was a good day despite the weather, nice food in the lodge and good conversation.. Very enjoyable day.. Thanks Mike :thumbup1:

Not sure to be honest, maybe the reaction from the mot man when he lifted the bonnet was enough for him not to want it to fail lol.. The ka however is probably gonna be a different story. I can't imagine he'll be impressed with the state of that. But I'm just glad I've still got some wheels! I did however find a fairly substantial oil leak on the z coming from above the driver side turbo. I'd noticed oil on the turbo feed line but assumed it was just residue from the turbo change that was done a few months back. It does seem to be leaking from the turbo feed, maybe its seeping through the thread and needs tightening? The valve cover gaskets were done in July so I'm assuming it's not coming from them again.
