  1. Well, progress report on the git... Today I've checked the ecu harness, no issues.. All clean connectors and tight. Checked the coil pack and that's all good. Removed the spark plug and checked inside cylinder which is fairly dry for a cylinder that's not firing! Checked the wiring and pulse on the injector plug again and all good, so it's got to be a faulty injector. I've removed the balance bar and most of the hoses to the plenum ready to continue with removing it at the weekend and swap out the number 6 injector with one of the spares I got back from Lee after having them changed in July. All I need now is the time and good fortune to get the bugger changed and fingers crossed the problem will be gone. Whilst the plenum is pulled I'll be fitting new pigtails to the injector and coil pack looms to rule out any bad connection at the plugs. Hopefully I'll have some good news come Sunday.. Ive been offered help by malak Ali on the Facebook group and whilst I'm waiting for a day that he's available I'm ploughing on myself to see if I can get it done without inconvenience to anyone else.. Just got to fund the plenum gasket etc which I know a sounds stupid as they're pennies, but things really are that tight right now!
  2. Hey phoenix, I've got a TT steering rack sitting here on thus breaker going to waste.. If you want it, you're more than welcome to come pull it off mate.. Gratis..
  3. They're the early style square ones pete.. Series one.
  4. Missed a bit! Only kidding  looking great ryhs, you must be really excited right now.. Pleased for you mate
  5. Yes, this is exactly what was done. However, whilst checking over the loom as I decided it was best to, I happened to pull at the wiring on injector 3 and the movement obviously disturbed the connection. At present, there is no garuantee that a new connector will help the number 6 injector but it has to be worthwhile replacing them for new ones. When Lee was working on the car, it originally had a broken wire on injector 1. He checked the rest over and put plugs on the broken ones and replaced the wiring to the places that needed it. Number 1 obviously and I believe the plugs on 4 in total were changed. The rest were still serviceable. Lets not forget that the engine has recently been removed aswell so the engine loom has had another major disturbance and possibly this is a result of that. I did run checks on the injector loom and used an led to check the pulse as Pete suggested. The pulse was strong and regular so I don't believe the wiring to get at fault, but the connector plugs could quite possibly be loose fitting enough on the injectors to cause the fault.brand New plugs will eliminate this from the diagnosis if they make no difference. Gary, I appreciate the offer of the coil packs but I already have another set from the breaker car. Thank you for the offer though. Richie, I've been checking wiring specialties site tonight and they are about £340 + shipping so I'm considering this atm. If a group buy could bring the price down further then I am definitely up for that. Anything to save pennies is good with me lol.. I've bought a couple of connectors in the meantime to see if I can get her running properly for now but a new loom would certainly be a good idea, after all, 26 years roasting in hell beneath that bonnet is enough to trash most things! If it turns out to be the injector, I was reminded by Lee yesterday that I have the original injectors in the fuel rail that Lee took off my engine, they're in the box of parts he gave me back after the original work was done..
  6. Even went down to four at one point but it's looking like the injector plugs are on their last legs.. Gonna buy a full set of injector and coil pack plugs with tails and wire those in, at least then it might run well until I get the money together for a full engine loom.. When it run on 4 I literally touched the plug on cylinder 3 and it sprang back to life. So that's my next move as it's the only affordable (just) option I have left at the moment..
  7. Wow, what a surprise... 5 again today then... Think I'm gonna order a new loom cos it's getting silly now. Anyone know a good way of testing the coil pack and wiring to it?
  8. Just got up and going out to see if my z still has a sense of humour... Taking bets on how many cylinders she's gonna use today..
  9. So what's the cost on this then? Might be interested if the car doesn't self destruct before then lol
  10. What Interior did you buy off si?
  11. I'd love to say it's an electrical problem but I'm still absolutely clueless as to what it was.. All the electrical circuits checked out fine so Im thinking it was more likely a blockage in the injector.. It's a mystery but hopefully it's one that'll remain in the past now. I'm thinking maybe the wet and windy weather had made a connection damp or something?? But I guess I'll not know until the next time it happens.. Anyway, she's driving great again so might go for a spin in a bit
  12. OK, it's official now.. The 300zx known to you all as nostrils has its very own sense of humour. After spending the last two days under the bonnet trying to fathom out why she dropped a cylinder, I gave up at about 6pm tonight. After everything I tried, I fired her up and yet again, cylinder 6 is down. My wife knowing how incredibly close I am to beating the car with a bush like John Cleese told me to go and get a beer and chill out for the night. So I decided to drive it down to the local off licence and get a beer. Gets in, turns the key and (I can almost hear her laughing) all six cylinders fire up.. ???? Wtf??? She drove to the beer shop faultlessly. Half expecting to drop a cylinder again on the way home, but no... Can someone please give me a little sanity back cos I really just don't understand anymore..
  13. Well I've spent the day testing and swearing a lot lol.. So far, I've changed coil pack, checked the spark plug, checked and cleaned all connections to cylinder 6. Since slick Petes suggestion about a noid light, I used a 5 smd bulb from the dashboard kit and connected it directly to the injector lead and thankfully I have a good strong pulse. I have also tested the injectors resistance and although it was wandering a little due to my shovel hands not being able to get the probes of the meter to sit still, I had a reading between 011 and 013 on occasion. So now I'm wondering.. Could that injector be blocked?
  14. Noid light? Never heard of one of those?? Is it like a timing light or is it specific to injection?
  15. I kept the car running and moved the connector around to make sure it wasn't a loose connection, applied pressure to the plug to make sure it hadn't lifted off its position etc. No point in removing it to check for green because Lee Dent put plugs on the loom in July and the car has hardly been used since so I know it's not a connection issue. He cut the loom where it had a problem with a break on the loom and rewired a new set of injector harness in. The injectors he installed along with rail were used ones but good condition and as I said before, the car was running beautifully. It was running great on start up Saturday morning and after driving it less than a mile, it started to run on five. I had noticed a petrol smell from the exhaust the day before but just assumed it was due to the new exhaust being straight through. If I didn't have to grind the plenum to get access to the screw for injector 6, I may have taken it out and swapped it for a spare I have but saying that, I'm not sure the spare is the same size as it's a red cap. I'm not in a position to pull the plenum as I don't have a gasket to replace it and would rather give it back to Lee as he has the knowledge that I don't and in my current mood I'm more likely to attack the motor with a pick axe than a spanner..
  16. Well they didn't see me on Sunday and I'd already paid for it.. I left there on Saturday afternoon and nursed my z home again.. I'm really hacked off with not having the car working again after all the missed time over the summer, not to mention the financial crisis I'm in at the moment aswell. Honestly felt like putting a match to it this weekend. Anyway, I'm now on the lookout for new injectors, nothing fancy, just a new set of 370cc stock ones. If anyone knows where I can get these as cheaply as possible can you let me know. I've checked out the Web and cheapest I've found are around £90 each for jecs ones but I'm sure they'll work out more once import tax and shipping costs go on top. Seriously needing to ask myself if I can really afford to keep this car now..
  17. I changed the coil pack, checked injector plug, checked the wiring from plug to loom which was recently replaced. Checked the spark plug which was bone dry and also listened with a screwdriver to the full set of injectors. All of them were clicking quite healthily except the one on number 6 which was so faint that I'm sure it was just the noise from the one on cylinder 4. No fuel smell from exhaust and conzult power balance test flagging red on 6 and no change in revs when cylinder 6 drops out on test.
  18. Ah OK.. Well I just assumed that as the leak appeared just after the injector packed up, the two may have been related
  19. Here's a few photos I got from the jae.. Not much as the weather was shocking!
  20. But doesn't that use information from the ecu in order to regulate?
  21. I'm making an assumption that the fuel pressure is kept at a constant the level by the usage of the engine. As the injectors use the fuel at a certain rate determined by the throttle position and ecu setting etc, if one injector stops injecting, the fuel usage will drop and therefore increase the amount of fuel in the lines adding excess pressure? Like running a hose and putting your thumb over the end, the pressure increases as consumption is restricted?
  22. The weather was that bad on Friday night in to Saturday morning that I actually feared going to sleep! 8 man tent was going sideways and breaking carbon poles etc.. Ended up binning the tent before we left. As for the car, I've changed the coil pack, checked the spark plug which was dry, checked injector wire and no problems there. Just one injector isn't clicking.. Has to be the injector. The one thing that is confirming it is stuck closed is the fuel leak that started on the fuel rail. The jubilee weren't too tight but no leaks until the misfire started. Excess pressure in the rail due to the closed injector... Going back to get it sorted as soon as possible.
  23. I'll be honest with you all, the event itself doesn't necessarily have to be that great. For me it's all about the company and if that's good, then I'd be happy to set up tent in a swamp lol. To be honest, the behaviour of others this year was pretty good but the company was just meh.. Simply jap was something I was looking forward to but the turbo problem I had just made it a no go.. Shame.. Anyway, I'm off out to try and cure the injector.. My injectors are stock phoenix, Lee Dent fitted a rail and six injectors that were all working fine and after the turbos were fitted she was running great, it just looks like either one has gone dead or a wiring problem has occurred again. Anyway I'll know more later today. I have a few red top injectors in my shed buy not sure what cc they are.
  24. ??? Yes but still, I've just paid out £4,000 on parts and repairs in two months Ali, I believe I have the right to be damn stressed out about it.. Particularly as driving home 120 miles with one cylinder dry and not firing may have just made the one injector a small problem Ali.. Seriously close to throwing the towel in right now
