What did you do to your zed today?
Personally I agree that tyres are a a safety feature, but the main feature of any vehicle and or situation, is the tool behind the wheel. I think that covering enough mileage in my driving history to have been to and from the moon a few times, kinda warrants my driving ability. I don't drive on a track anymore, I don't think I'd do particularly well at it nowdays due to age and disabilities but I drive on the road with that in mind at all times. I've personally experienced death and horrific injuries myself and I've witnessed more scenes than I'd like to ever remember over the years, so believe me when I say that safety is very important to me. If you'd like to see how important other peoples lives are to me, this is the result of an incident on the M1 a few months ago. A car with a young family lost control after trying to avoid an idiot in an audi who cut them up at high speed. At the point where they lost control, I was behind them in my truck weighting 40 tonnes and travelling at 56mph. I now had a choice. Either risk taking this family out and probably killing them all, or risk my own life to save them. I decided in that split second decision that their lives were more important and this was the result.. I swerved off the road and hit a bridge and it was a matter of 3" that decided if I lived or died. Road safety and other people's lives... This is how important that issue is to me.

I agree with you to some degree Alic, however safety is also about ability and experience aswell. Driving in a way that fits the environment you're In and within the specification of the vehicle and knowing its limits and your own. Let's just say I've got a lot of miles under my belt and more than most after driving as a career for 23 years. As of yet I am accident free and killed or injured no one regardless of the tyres I've had on at the time, be they ichiminge or Bridgestone etc.. It's not just down to your equipment. If you have the safest car setup in the universe, it still won't help you if you're a retard behind the wheel.

Not that I think many will be interested but here's a link to a video where nankang tyres tested them on track on a 900bhp 350Z and a 450bhp mitsubishi evolution.. Enjoy... Not bad for a "budget" brand?

What did you do to your zed today?
Growing balls is something I did quite some time ago, I also managed to grow some hair around them too unlike some  Anyway, after the research on the tyres I'm currently running, those ichiminge things si, they are actually rated as A for economy and B for wet grip so I wouldn't have the opinion that they are below standard for a Z. The tyre being the thing in contact with the road is one part of the braking system, however if you try to stop said rubber with a set of stock brakes, it is incredibly different to stopping said rubber with massive brembos. So even if I fitted a set of those spanky top of the range well researched and advertised bits of rubber, the brakes that are actually trying to stop it turning are going to make a whole lot of difference aren't they? Or do we just fit brembos to our cars for the name? And if we go back to the start and look at what was said when I mentioned nankang tyres, it was said by you that I should fit quality rubber instead of budget tyres.. So I'm struggling to understand why you would be confused when it annoys me that you point the finger at the tyres I chose initially to fit to my Stock powered Z and say they are "budget" Also implying that I don't seem to give a rats arse wether the tyres are safe when I also carry my family in the z on occasion. On the point of growing balls, maybe you could sprout a little tact in the way you attack a subject si? I understand your passion with safety, but I also understand that people can't always afford the highest quality safety precautions regardless of wether they wish to or not. A set of top grade tyres for my car would be nice, also completely unnecessary and overkill for the car, but as a full set would cost me around £500-£600 I'm afraid my life isn't as fortunate as some others. I work a 60 hour minimum week in a job that risks my life everyday and get paid a mediocre wage that just about supports my family and pays for the few decent things I own in life. I haven't had a holiday for around 8 years due to financial issues but regardless, the car is always looked after and given the best possible safety solutions and care, otherwise it wouldn't be on the road. If someone wants to put the money for some top quality rubber I'm my bank account, then by all means I'll fit the best that's out there, if not, don't criticise me for doing the best I can do. And certainly don't try and ridicule me over it. To be honest, if it were changing one axle, I'd probably fit a grippier better brand tyre, however as I am on a staggered set up and it's one from the rear and one from the front that need replacing, it's going to be twice as expensive as it couldve been as it'll be all four corners being replaced. Anyway,to the majority, thanks for the advice..

The point I'm making Ian is that people shout that something is crap before actually testing it for themselves. I've been at 70 down a damp cold country lane at night and had to stop real hard to avoid hitting a deer and these tyres have performed well, I've also had no issues with the Korean made wheels I'm using. Never had any problems and I don't expect to have a problem, they're all made in the same place most of the time anyway. And FYI Si, I may not have run high quality tyres on a Z but I'm not sure exactly what you know of my driving experience or history but I've run a 550rwhp rover SD1 on high quality tyres and various other models of vehicles that are high power. The SD1 being one of the heaviest cars ever, making the Z look like a real slim machine. That rover had every conceivable mod done including a 720 wizard of NoS kit installed and made the Z look like it was going backwards. So, you're not talking to someone wet behind the ears here bud, I'm driving 42 tonne of death machine every night which has a whole lot more importance on grip than anything else on the road. I don't fit tyres that I don't feel are capable of keeping the car on the road, but I don't need tyres that are made for track style driving on a public highway as I don't drive like an imbecile or ever wish to Just a decent quality tyre to give enough grip to get you out of trouble if needed and be comfortable to drive on. I've got stock brakes si, the least of my worries with being able to stop if I drive like a nob, is going to be the rubber. However I can't afford to fit Brembos to the car either.. Seriously, I think I am doing the right thing selling up now, I haven't been in here much the last year but now I'm beginning to understand why.

Sorry si but I asked a question to find out what others are recommending as there is a wide spectrum of owners with different budgets and circumstances. Thus I would get a broad view on what people thought were acceptable tyres and what to avoid. I can't accept the opinion of someone on a product they've never used, if you haven't experienced it, you can't have an opinion on it and that is what personally rattles my cage when someone without a real valid opinion comes up with ling long tyres statement.. I've driven on nankangs, the same set for 12,000 miles and never sound my car, never lost traction at any critical point even when driving hard. My car us not massively spec'd or throwing out big bhp and us not used on a track. Running stock suspension and arms etc. If I were running 500+ bhp I would see the point in using the best if the best tyres, however I'm the regular Joe and driving within the law and responsibly, so the need for tyres like superglue is simply overkill. I drive for a living and have covered significantly more mileage than the average driver and have used a massively wide spectrum of tyres on all types of vehicles. This op was literally to find the average answer to the question and wasn't meant to turn in to a massive debate.

What did you do to your zed today?
I understand what you're all saying, but as I have already said, I have personally been running on these tyres since I replaced the wheels (with one of those cheap packages off ebay) Wheel and tyre package was £420 for wheels and £430 for tyres so not really that cheap In my opinion but hey ho.. I out those wheels and tyres on and have done roughly 12,000 miles on them and can honestly say that they've never felt unsafe to me. I've had to pull up real quick on occasion and they have performed perfectly well. The only time I have had an issue is when applying too much of the beans in the wet which is a driver issue not the tyre. I do understand your point of view si, trust me I know the importance of being able to stop and being able to stay in contact with the tarmac as I've spent the latter half of my life dealing with the after effects of serious injuries from a crash. I'm actually suprised at how well these tyres have performed and I think it's wrong that they should get a bad rep when they are actually a good tyre in my opinion. They may not be the best tyre available, but they have out-performed my expectations of them. I would say they are a very good tyre from my own experience of using them.

Si, I'd fit diamond encrusted ones if I could afford it bud, but we ain't all got money to burn on rubber.. It's gonna be parked up all week and only used at weekends so is it worth spending out in big brand tyres? I'm no Mr mansell when I drive aswell so it's over kill for me to fit that sort of rubber.. As long as its safe and does its job for now, I think it will do.. Might look in to the ones that were mentioned earlier aswell, the advantage I've heard good stuff about.

OK, here's the information I'm reading from. A trusted source of the new nankangs tyre. It's main down point is fuel economy.. If we were worried about that we'd be driving fiestas and corsas do they you think.. Other than that, this review looks fairly good to me http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-reviews/100256/nankang-as-2-review

What did you do to your zed today?
Yes, you can get them for £80 Alic.. Depending on which ones you go for.. Cheaper isn't always sub standard guys.. The tyres I've had on since 2016 have hardly worn and are a good tyre. If I thought they were sub standard, I'd agree with you, but how many with this opinion have actually used these tyres and have an opinion based on fact rather than just based on price and brand name snobbery?

What did you do to your zed today?
Why do you people insist that nankang are a budget brand? They have not given me any issues that are dangerous? Every tyre company I have spoken to and asked their opinion on them have said that they are a great tyre and they have vastly improved and become a good brand and I'd hardly say that £105 per tyre was budget would you? I've had pirelli and Avon and Michelin and all the other brands that have the big names and to be honest there's not that much difference for normal road use. I don't drive like a hoon and the occasional spin up of the rear wheels I've had has been mainly down to it being wet and me trying to accelerate too quick for the conditions. I'm sure any of them would have spun in that instance. I do agree their are more grippy tyres out there and in some instances you do get what you pay for and thus the reason I didn't go for the £50 a rim jobs that I would call budget. Nankang being a big sponsor in the drifting world and has made a name for itself over the last few years, I think really should take them out of the "budget" section of the car owners mind.. Anyhow, my issues with the tyres is having just spent a heap of cash on the car and about to be having a lot more done, then my insurance excess to pay for the little scrotes damage caused, things are a little tight and I'd rather have safe rubber than worn ones.. And don't worry, I won't be slipping everywhere haha

Thanks for the advice on the tyres lads.. I am tempted to go for nankangs again seeing as they seem to have made improvements since I bought these ones three years ago and to be honest the tyres are only needing to be changed because of the geometry being off a little. The mot guy said that they had worn down to the legal limit on the inner edge about an inch on the driver rear and the passenger front, but the rest of the tyres tread is remarkably good and actually looks like they would have lived another 3 years before needing to be changed, which I still find fairly incredible to be honest lol. The grip on them is great in the dry but they do slip a little in the wet, nothing major unless youre giving it the beans but let's face it, that's when you need them to be gripping haha. I'm booked in for a lot of work at powerzed this weekend so hopefully I'll have got on top of most of the issues she's beginning to get. I have my fingers crossed that new pcv valves and a slight boost leak on the passenger side might cure the oily smoke from the exhaust and I can then know if the turbo is needing new seals or not AGAIN! hoping to get a clutch slave changed and uprated clutch braided hose installed, rear crank seal, boost leak fixed, prop shaft changed and hopefully a service. Working jimmer hard so gotta try not to break him  I might have to get my hands dirty to help get it all done on the day. No sleep going to be a little bit of a downer though... Whilst I remember, does anyone have some oem intercooler inlet/outlet hoses available? The two angled ones and the two weird bendy ones that attach the intercoolers to the hard pipes? If so, can you let me know ASAP as I have a new guy who will be joining the club shortly that is in desperate need of them. Thanks in advance guys and gals..

Not yet Dutch.. Can't rule it out yet but going for a lot of work and a respray after the **** hit it on my drive last month. Getting it all up to scratch either way, if I decide to sell or not, she still needs to be kept in good shape.. I changed the rear wiper seal yesterday and pleases to say there's no more waterfalls when I open the boot. Got it booked in with jimmer to have a fair amount of work done so she should be all mechanically tip top by the end of that visit. Just wanted to ask advice. I will need to replace the rear tyres soon and want some that are good grip and decent wear rate at the beat price.. I've heard pirelli p zero mentioned a lot but they have a price tag don't they? Anyone got any recommendations for a decent bit of grip on the rear without the sting in the price? The nankangs I have are pretty good but they're a little slippy under acceleration, they spin a little easy when the boost comes in.

Front lower arms seem to be in decent condition, would benefit from a clean up and a powder coat but seem OK to me.

Sorry Chris, that panel was there but I binned it due to it being quite badly split and none of the fixing points were intact. I did see one listed on the Facebook page recently so might be worth a look there Chris, it was a black one if I remember right and I think it was Emma winn Gordon that posted it?

No joy on the prop shaft bearing or single piece prop I assume? Well, guess it was worth a try.. Anyway for anyone looking for 2+2 parts, my breaker is gearing up ready to head to the knackers yard, so if anyone is after anything, let me know ASAP as the wifes face is turning a purple colour more frequently and this shell needs gone.. There's a few parts left, fuel tank, rear subframe, tank straps, suspension parts all round, knuckle, viscous fan and coupling, a crank which is going brown, abs unit, bonnet, interior parts etc etc.. Anything not gone will be going to scrap so let me know ASAP. Happy to trade for other parts aswell as cash so if you have anything you don't need, let me know and maybe we can swap out or something. Moving house at some point so having to clear out as much as possible. Gimme a call on 07900887433 if you need any info.. Cheers

Gaz, you really don't know how close to the truth that is! There are very dangerous contraptions and formulas in my workshop, none of which are visible until you fall over them haha.. More of a man trap cave sometimes

What did you do to your zed today?
Will do when i find it Jay.. I'm having an issue with my ability to tidy up and arrange a storage system that doesn't comprise of boxes with bottoms that fall out and labelled simply Z.. I swear if I were to arrange things better I'd probably have time to rebuild my car in the amount I lose just trying to find stuff!

I'm going to the cave now Ian.. Will let you know asap

What did you do to your zed today?
Now Ian, you may be a very lucky lad.. I am 95% positive that the little box of tricks you require, may just be sitting in a box in my aladdins cave at the end of my garden.. Can you send me the Poo number that's on it, just to be sure. I'm fairly certain that the one I have is in a transparent (kind of milky transparent) casing. Let me have the number and I'll go check the workshop..

Club Annual Meet & AGM 2017 - Register of Interest
Seeing these results has definitely given me the push to get the car sorted for next year.. Respray is getting sorted for sure and I think the engine will be pulled for it aswell now. Maybe time to think about hicas removal and get the bay looking tidier as I feel that's what let it down more. All the gubbins inside there make it very hard to clean and keep looking tidy. Too much under there really to give it the clean look I'd like. Still, was suprised to get the runner up with so many really clean looking bays there this year. Lots of very well maintained and presented cars this year. Not really sure where to go to get any votes on the other categories? It'll never be an oem car and I assume from the results it'll never be oem+ either. Modified I was suprised to get a vote lol Interior and ice is far from ever gonna happen too haha.. Although I never leave the car open when unattended so no one got to see my speaker pods and even if they had, if I'd turned the stereo on, people would've been asking where the farting tortoise is hidden lol. Hmmm, thinking time... Garage required and a job I can make enough to fund projects instead of robbing Peter to pay Paul.. One day! That said, very happy to have another trophy in the cabinet considering the Bay hasn't changed at all apart from some paint flaking on the pa's pot! So all in all a very happy NemesiZX.. I'd like to hear some opinions on where you guys think I could improve on nostrils, apart from the obvious nostril removal lol. Seriously, I'd like to hear what people think Let's the car down and where you think I could improve its desirability.. So let me know what you really think.. And don't worry about offending me, I've got fairly broad shoulders ;o)
