wrong clutch!!!
What company did you buy it from in the States, so we know not to use them in future, unless of course they sort it out properly.

Has anyone bought these?
I think FunkySI has them on his.

headlights??? where is the light hiding?
You need to fit HID bulbs which really make a difference. DTA in the Traders sction can help with supply. The best version I feel is th 4000k which give a brilliant white light. The higher the number the bluer the light will be. Certainly clean the lens up as well.

Need Help
From memory, I thought the wires went into a switch which fits onto the back of the ignition barrel. Surely someone breaking a Zed would have one of these, at least you would then know it was connected up right. Put an ad in the 'Wanted' section with a contact email address, as you cannot be pm'd being a registered user.

Engine
There are several reasons for leaving it attached to the box. One is the oil loss, which really is messy under the vehicle and of course has to be replenished before driving. but more importantly, the output shaft on the auto gearbox is made up of of an inner and outer splined shafts. The splines are quite fine and easily damaged when man handling the engine back in. the damage could be either to the shaft on the box or internally in the torque converter, both would need replacing if damaged.

The magnificent 15........
The Zed scene in the States Si appears to be huge compared with the UK which is probably due to their climate, both economic and temperature wise, being more suited big engined cars. Even now fuel is still only a $1.45 a gallon as opposed to 90 odd pence a litre here. Their turnout to meets is just fantastic which is why any Nissan dealer would be keen to turn up with a few vehicles. Here, we are lucky to get half a dozen turn up which is not much of a sales pitch even for a seconhand Micra. Also our local Nissan dealer, Wessex, is particularly grim when it comes to Zeds judging by their parts department. As soon as you say 'import', their response is 'can't help', and when you say that it would be the same as a UK model, they then request a model number. This is not the GCZ32 number but some other number which they seem unable to give you. Jimmer got his from the Nissan dealer in WSM called Howards who appear to be more helpfull. Even then, they still give you grief over ordering parts for 'grey imports'. With that sort of response, I cannot think for one minute that they would be interested in anything to do with 300's, especially as we cannot muster any support within the club.

Engine
Depends on whether auto or manual , but the difference is only regarding the toprque converter, which is like a flywheel but full of fluid. This should always be left on the splines of the gearbox and so needs to be unbolted from a backplate attached to the rear crankshaft flange. Otherwise it is pretty standard excepting you have to drop the front crossmember to bring the engine forward enough to clear the gearbox. Mark the splines on the steering column joint before disconnecting, to keep your steering straight when re-assembled. You will need a sturdy crane, these engines weigh about 600 pounds and will topple most cranes with standard length bottom rails. Apart from marking all your electrical connections, thats it. Good luck.

Gearbox problems
If you wish to keep the auto box, I would suggest having the filters and valve block cleaned on the existing box and fresh oil fitted. This is the usual cause of initial problem which when left leads to total box failure. If you buy another autobox secondhand, I would also advise getting this done before fitting.

FunkySi your next car mate !
Getting in and out is restricted especially when someone parks too close. They go up and out. Luke Borg had them on his shortie, the important word there is 'had', he now has stardard hinges fitted.

The magnificent 15........
Well, as a response to Murts thread regarding who we have in the region, there have been 15 names put on the list, which is great. So, do we organise a Christmas get together, booze and food touch, or would you rather go bowling, skating, skydiving etc., What do you reckon peeps.

Ecu
Also be aware that if your engine is 'tired' and of 'substantial' mileage, such an upgrade can finish them off. If your car is an import, and the mileage is showing a nice comfortable mileage (kilometerage) say 60,000 ish............unless documented, take it with a pinch of salt. Most are clocked before they leave the motherland. Do as FunkySI has stated and ensure your engine is running tip top. If it was me I would also fit a proper oil pressure gauge which would then give you a condition for your big ends, (if worn the pressure usually falls off dramatically when hot) and also go for a compression test.

cold start help needed desperate
It sounds as though you may just have ignition problems which is causing it get over rich and sooting the plugs up resulting in a misfire, black smoke amd flaming. Check the connectors on the PTU and the CAS to make sure they are clean (use alloy wheel cleaner then very lightly coat in vaseline). If no joy then you have to think about plug coil packs which do break down with age and gets amplified when in damp cold atmospheres.

Squirters
Are you saying you have no squirters at all ! or that you have got the standard set fitted. If you have none at all then 'yes' you will eventually have problems, notably a lower oil pressure as there would be no restriction to the oilway where they are normally fitted.

Lets see your...
How about these.

How can i make le Zed un-redded...?
Its a shortie though Alan.;)

Squirters
I thought that all Zeds had them to lubricate the small ends.

How can i make le Zed un-redded...?
If you are going for a colour change, then now must be the time to do it as places like bodyshops are going to be more amiable to cutting their prices, just to keep the money rolling in. I have found a cracker in Bristol Joel if you are interested, he has already done work on my car and will be doing some more shortly. A real quality job and no VAT.
