5 sets of tyres... since Oct
I did a lot of research into this because my front camber is not quite to spec and it is irritating to have to change tyres because of bad alignment. I have discovered most people who claim to offer wheel alignment are not very good. Sling a Morris Minor at them and it's probably OK. I have also discovered that there are loads of bodyshops who say they have a proper jig and can do the measuring but again most of them are "adequate" at best. Some of the kit I have seen (mechanical jigs, laser alignment etc) are cr*p and even more cr*ply maintained. One place I was sent to by my local dealer talked complete nonsense about why the camber was out and when I went back to the dealer to complain, found they didn't use that one any more because they were cr*p. Another one said "yes we've got a laser computer alignment machine and we've done 300zxs before" so I booked it in and on the way out, one of the mechanics sidled out of the work bay and told me that their machine hadn't been serviced or aligned by the manufacturer in over a year and consequently was useless. So I cancelled the booking. I have found two places that seem to know what they are talking about. One is Protyres in Slough with a (maintained but always check) laser wheel align 01753 579011. The other is a huge bodyshop in Hayes called D&G http://www.dandghayes.co.uk They have a whizzo ultrasonic sensor jobby which compares many points on your car in 3D with manufacturer spec. It's a machine called a blackhawk. http://www.blackhawk.co.uk/uk/uk_homepage.html They found that one of my reference points was 6mm out where they would normally jig to within 5mm for their own work. But, they said, 6mm should be good enough and didn't try to rip me off for an unecessary jig session. Fair play to them And to get this level of advice took months on the phone and visting places. My advice - such as it is - is to get a proper whole-body check done. Mine cost me £80. Without this, you won't have a proper base to start the problem solving. Good luck - Gio

Roof racks
Whatever you do, Dave, when you get home and store the thing, you have to keep it outside or in a building that is only at ambient temperature. As everyone knows, you can't have your kayak and heat it.

turbo boost
Blimey, there's a coincidence! 1.9338 psi = 100 mm Hg The 7 (x100 mm Hg) marking on the gauge = 13.5 psi (stock wastegate should operate between 11 and 13 psi) the 3/4 mark is 5.25 (x 100 mm Hg) = 10.15 psi the 1/2 way mark is 3.5 (x 100mm Hg) = 6.768 psi the 1/4 way mark is 1.75 (x 100mm Hg) = 3.38 psi. Allegedly stock boost is 9 or 9.5 psi and safety boost of 7 psi BUT I have not been able to find any authoritative reference for this. Cheers - Gio

is this the final throws of 300zx.co
Hi All, I've been asked to bung a short post explaining a little of what has been going with forum organisation over the past few months. So here goes. In the old days, the forum was run by a couple of admins who did it for love and could get away with using servers and bandwidth "informally". People move on and this was no longer possible. To keep the forum going, it had to be moved to a dedicated server with proper bandwidth. Both of which cost money. So members were invited to subscribe. Many subscribed and even more did not. This is OK because the subscribed members don't mind helping out - and they get access to a few forums which the unpaid don't. And some members gave assistance in other ways - building the server, arranging hosting and so on. By this time, one of the original admin founders left and the whole organisational, moderating thing was being carried by a single person. A number of existing members were asked if they could help out and share the load. These are the current moderators - myself included. As you can tell from many posts, the lot of a moderator is not a happy one and there can be a high level of debate about what should and should not be "allowed". So what we are doing at the moment is to come up with some way that this forum can be run the way that the members want. With enough money coming in to keep it going. And an agreed method of choosing mods, with an AUP policy that everyone can abide by. When we have done our work - which includes reading every view expressed in the many posts and polls, we will propose the results to the forum. So with a spot of luck, within a few months, there will be a way of carrying on the forum without having to rely on a single admin or small set of mods. Does this help? Cheers - Gio

Interior clock on 300zx import
If the clock is broken, have a look at AndyP's site http://www.300zx.org.uk There is a "how-to" on it somewhere and if you can't be bothered, then Andy will do it for you for a very small and highly reasonable fee! HTH - Gio

BNP
The BNP is a racist party stuffed ful of racist thugs led by a bloke who used to enjoy dressing up in Nazi regalia and was a close lieutenant of the then leader of the NF, Martin Webster an openly gay right wing thug. Griffin is a convicted criminal who got 2 years suspended for distributing racists material. He denies the Holocaust happened. They prey on the fears of normal people by scare tactics ("Britain will become an Islamic republic") just to get their grubby little selves into power. You can tell the party is infested with small minded little thugs with massive egos because of the amazing! amount! of exclamation!! marks used!!!! on their website!!!!! Which is how twats try to convince you that their spew has some importance. If the BNP ever get into power where you live and you are slightly out of the norm, start packing or sew a yellow star of david on your jacket.

Wind-ups
Persuading some poor young lady that breweries used specially bred ferrets (specially bred for a particular type of nice fluffy fur) to clean their pipes with. This all started when someone who worked for British Gas talked about using a pig. Which as any fule kno is the name for the automated thingy they bung down gas mains to inspect them. Said young lady originally thought this was a real animal and thought it was a bit cruel. We said, yes but they're not the only animal used in similar circumstances. For example... Big breweries have miles and miles of lots of different sizes of pipe and keeping them clean is a big problem. Hence the ferrets - empty the pipe, bung in your lovely clean ferret, train it to scamper along to the other end and bingo! Clean pipe. (Yes, you've got to clean the ferret between uses.) And yes, there are different sizes of pipe so there are different breeds of ferret. Bred to 2" dia, 3" dia and so on. (HL & S so far ;) ) Now that we've gone metric, however, all the pipe sizes have changed so we are having to import continental ferrets and put down all the imperial ones..... The rabies quarantine is a big problem. IIRC it was only about here that she twigged :D Later that same night she was heard to say "no but they really did used to run radios on steam cos they called it steam radio" still laffin' - Gio

We have a GRASS! SNITCH! FENCE! in our midst
Actually, that's not a bad point. There's nothing wrong with open "everyday" polls. But any "policy" or organisational polls - particularly if they involve people, should be private. Maybe forum polls as they are, are not exactly the right way to do this?

Ajay you're a moderator!

I was minding my own business doing something else when a post from http://www.zclub.net led me to the following. They look really techy and (if they work) should help anyone who is trying to work out a) how fast am I going when I've got non-standard (or standard, come to that) wheels at which revs in which gear http://www.geocities.com/z_design_studio/transmission_300zx_tt.html b) techy things about turbos. http://www.turbofast.com.au/tfcalc.html#readme AndyP - might be worth a link from your compendium? Cheers - Gio- Ajay you're a moderator!
ROFL :D Right that's Ajay looking after the gold stars, Macca minding the milk - who wants to pick up the dummies on the floor and polish teach's apple?- Ajay you're a moderator!
Yes Dave, you're right - that was the one. In particular, there have been a lot of good suggestions about what unregistered / registered / paid members should be able to do. But it gets very complicated with loads of different options. Even when there is a very simple poll (like the one on the thread you found) is posted, the answers get very complex. So we are trying to find ways of being able to do what the members want as expressed in various threads. None of the existing mods have the time to administer a complex membership structure so when a few volunteers stepped forward we were (and are) very grateful for the offers. James & smw1 don't worry, your names have been taken too! That is why Ajay is now a mod - it's not just some watery tart throwing swords around :D Cheers - Gio- Virus: Found the fecker!
Oh and to answer your question, you can report to McAfee http://www.mcafee.com/support/onlineservices/faqs.asp?faq=453 and both McAfee and Symantec offer some online scanning if you want to be doubly sure. http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/ HTH - Gio - Speed through the revs calculator and turbo calculator
