Virus: Found the fecker!
Think you might be right, Stuart. Don't have this file on my Win2kPro. But then, I've never had MSN either! MSNConfig.exe is not listed on Symantec or McAfee but if you put msnconfig.exe in Google, there is one page (mostly in Chinese unfortunately) http://it.rising.com.cn/newSite/Channels/Anti_Virus/Upgrade_Report/Upgrade_Report/200306/06-142310502.htm which from its contex seems to associate it with a trojan virus: Trojan.SdBot.gen.n.enc Search on microsoft.com doesn't appear to have any listing for msnconfig Good luck - Gio

NZR - puzzle
This is the key point - the puzzle is NOT random at this stage. The host removing the box always removes an empty one. There would be no point in removing the one with the prize in, would there? ;) Gio

Are my turbos too hot?
errrrh top marks for observation give the man a bananana :D I can only plead that i nicked it from a site about some kiwi's Z32 (link in earlier post). So you're clearly cleverer than both me, Kiwis and everyone else who looked at the pic and didn't notice / couldn't count! I wonder what it is from?

NZR - Are you smart enough ?
Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving And revolving at nine hundred miles an hour..... The circumference of the earth at the equator is 24,902 miles. It rotates once each day. So it is actually rotating (at the equator) at 1,037 mph. To the east) If there was no air, a plane (actually a rocket or something as a plane doesn't work in a vacuum) heading east at 600mph would see the ground move away from them at 437mph.(1,037 - 600) Conversely, the rocket heading west would cover the ground at 1,637mph. But the earth does have an atmosphere. Clearly, this is coupled to the earth mechanically though friction and revolves with it. If it didn't, we would be living in a continuous 1,000mph gale. Air is a gas and therefore moves fluidly - i.e. it is not rigid, it flows. As you get further away from the earth's surface (i.e. higher up) the air at that level is rotating less fast than the ground below it. A simple model would therefore say that at ground level, there is no difference between flying west or east to get to your antipodean point. And the further up you go, the more difference there would be. However, neither life not the atmosphere is that simple. The atmosphere is 3d and has coriolis force acting on it which creates circulation cells. http://www.geo.utexas.edu/courses/302P/Lectures%20by%20topic/3)%20atmosphere%20lecture%20stuff/Atmosphere%20Figs/4.2.gif These create patterns of highs and lows which when combined with the earth's rotation give rise to a pattern of winds http://www.geo.utexas.edu/courses/302P/Lectures%20by%20topic/3)%20atmosphere%20lecture%20stuff/3.20.gif http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Newsroom/NasaNews/2003/2003030411331.html And there are some very high speed winds known as jetstreams which span the earth at high altitudes. SO if your plane gets into these then their speed over ground is massively affected. http://www.bbc.co.uk/bristol/content/weather/2003/01/16/jetstream.shtml So the answer to your question is yes, there is a difference. What it is depends on a) where are you going b) where did you start from c) how high up you are flying and d) what route you want to take. This is why I am very glad that the driver of the plane I'm on is paid considerably more than me!

NZR - Are you smart enough ?
Aah, I see what you mean. In this case, gravity has no effect. The force of gravity acts vertically i.e. attracting the plane downwards to the centre of the earth (and btw attracting the earth upwards to the plane but only by a teeny weeny amount). There is no rotational vector to gravity - it doesn't care whether the plane is flying west east north south. So the key variable is which way is the land moving compared to the flight direction. The land is moving to the east so flying east takes longer than flying west. Cheers - Gio

Libel and the Internet - The Law
Ajay: 1) http://www.google.co.uk ;) and 2) OK will take that on board. I'm also trying to find the original legal stuff which craig did. Timmy: actually that's not a bad suggestion - it is being thought about as we type! (bugger - beaten by neet's lighting touch typing) Ajay: 3) yes it is "in hand" as they say....
-
NZR - Are you smart enough ?
MAC: yep. ;) Ajay: Actually, the first convicts were not transported until Sunday 13 May 1787. And typically, it is agreed that "Mediaeval" stopped around 1500AD. http://historymedren.about.com/library/faq/blmedieval.htm#when That'll teach her to spot the $0 list price hehehe :D Gio

NZR - Are you smart enough ?
If you look down on the earth from above, it is rotating anticlockwise. Towards the east. So if you are flying in that direction (eastwards) it will take you longer to catch up with the point on the earth you are chasing. If you fly toward the west, the point you are heading for is rotating toward you so that'll be quicker. Now this doesn't take into account the jetstream..... OK why did you want to know? Gio (PS in otherwords what ste said :D )

Libel and the Internet - The Law
Don't know what you mean by that but it is the case that ISPs and webhosts get "cease and desist" every day. Because of the implications of the Demon case, ISPs simply no longer take the risk where complaints are made - they just take the content down. If you want to know more call a lawyer or ISPA http://www.ispa.org.uk I repeat, the key point is that the libel law (both in UK and in many other countries) makes NO distinction between publishing on the internet and publishing on paper. And I don't think you want me to research every libel case since Demon.

Libel and the Internet - The Law
This has been brought up before so I just checked the current situation. The key fact to remember is that And it gets worse: The detailed article by H20 is worth a read (they've copy protected the pages so I can't cut/paste). Other links: http://www.media-solicitors.co.uk/internet-libel.htm http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/695596.stm http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/2587057.stm Now we (the moderators) aren't lawyers nor can we afford any. If something that is possibly libel is published we have to take it down or risk getting sued. It cost Demon over £200,000. If anyone reports a post to the mods as defamatory, we have to take it down. The law as it stands would land everyone in court: the person alleging libel, the person making the statement, the hosting company, craig and the moderators. So please before anyone posts, please bear in mind that even though this is on the internet, you are still subject to the libel law and could get sued along with everyone looking after this forum and end up with big bills and no forum. Thanks - Gio

Are my turbos too hot?
Z32 turbo:  So don't just turn off the engine after a blast fgs. Spend several minutes driving gently to let it all cool down nicely. (or turbo timer - but even so, drive gently in the last few minutes before you stop). Ref in full is here  Gio

How do find the date of manufacture?
http://www.300zx.org.uk/import_dating.htm But this only gets you as far as the year IIRC. It might be worth checking directly with Mike Feeney who has all relevant parts fiches and should be able to match the chassis number with the right part. HTH - Gio

Model numbers and pedantry
Somewhere else (I forget where) there was some discussion about model numbers. So I did some research and for those who love the smell of pedantry in the morning here's the list. (Thanks to Mike Feeney and zedhead of ZClub for correcting errors and confirmation.) 240Z had a 2.4l engine straight 6 carbs 260Z = 2.6l straight 6 carbs 280Z = 2.8l straight 6 fuel inj 280ZX = 2.8l straight 6 fuel inj (same engine and trans as 280Z but new everything else) and later a turbo 300ZX (Z31) = 3l V6 na & turbo 300ZX (Z32) = 3l V6 na & tt (completely different to Z31) 350Z = 3.5l V6 na and for the SXs 180SX is 1.8 (aka Silvia in J-land, I believe) S13 200SX = 1.8l turbo s14 200SX = 2.0l turbo 240SX = 2.4l na (US model) So as you can see, apart from a bit of a hiccup with the SXs, the model no is based on engine capacity. Cheers - Gio
