Ooooh careful there Bob. If the car is on finance, the finance company owns the car. You could end up giving dosh to chappy and if he runs away, you have not got good title to that car - it still belongs to the finance company. Check out with the help of google or cal finance company just to check. Good Luck - Gio
  2. Andy, in that case you are positively wrong. ANYONE could have stuck their hand up to help out with Trax. Two people did and then pulled out. Due to the time factor, Ajay volunteered to use her own money to gain an advantage for club members wanting to go to Trax. This was after two other forum members (due to time and not having any spare credit) decided they couldn't help. It was suggested that Ajay AS CLUB TREASURER should step in to organise a club event. So she did. And in 9 hours from 3am to 12 noon cutoff deadline after everyone else had spent 8 days frigging around failing actually to book anything. All clear and above board. On several occasions, in nice red letters it was pointed out that people who stuck their hands up for a ticket and then didn't cough up would lead to club funds being used. Again quite clear in advance and above board. The fact this needed to be a CLUB event to get the cheap £8.50 tickets was pointed out in the very first post. Why in the 10,000 names of Christ are people making such a fuss without reading back and checking the facts? And if people can't be 4rsed to read and check, I will post here the relevant sections but that would just make everyone think I was going for Mike's pedant title. http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21633&perpage=15&pagenumber=1
  3. Tim - the point wasn't "what shall we do in future" - all your ideas are good ones and Topless volunteered to organise next year's so that's all taken care of. The point was Ajay offered to help club members out by using her own funds. Yes it went pear shaped but that was not her fault: it was the fault of those who haven't paid up. Yes she trusted club members to stick to their word and, sadly, has had a harsh lesson. And given the fuss that's been made since, how likely is it that she and others will go that extra mile for forum members in future?
  4. thanks guys - didn't mean to hijack shaunmac's brother's uncle's dog's thread (or whoever it is ;) ) I'll do a proper post somewhere else when I've got time but yes the plan is to buy back the salvage and get a non-thieving-*******-insurance-rates bodyshop to repair. The insured value was £5,000 and they write off if repairs are 60% of the value - in my case £3,000. Thanks to recommendations here and elsewhere, I now have the choice of Slough, Tamworth, Nottingham or Lincolnshire for bodyshops.... errr decisions decisions Unless life kicks me in the nads yet again this month, should be back by November. More later - sorry shaunmac, have yer post back before I moderate myself for hijacking! :D - Gio
  5. OMG not another bloody one. http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=22645 and yes they have wrtten it off (sob). Got loads of parts listing if you want - bung me yr address and I 'll post them The insurers have a huge computery thing which estimaters have to work to with standard times for standard jobs. Plus there are standard "kits" from parts suppliers. EG "Rear Accident Damage" which will have every last nut bolt washer, crumple thingy, reflector etc etc whether or not you actually need it. So there's a big price - much bigger than a real repairer - which tends to mean write offs of cars which are perfectly repairable. HTH - much sympathies - Gio
  6. People promise to pay her back then renege? If that's not serious imagine if a group of people here got you to shell out and then didn't pay up.

    Turning into Senna then?
  8. When I was young, I always wanted to be a bloke who went down sewers in big rubber boots. Either that or a brain surgeon.... :D
  9. I think this shows the danger of someone trying to help out the club. Imagine this. Next year, the club decides to go to Trax and wants to buy a block of tickets to get the cheaper price. Many people stick their hands up and less-than-many people go. At this stage, the club is down on the deal. What should happen next? The only difference between this scenario and what happened to Ajay is that the club hadn't got its act together enough to do this yet so Ajay volunteered to sub the offer to club members. It is diabolical that she hasn't been paid - particularly since the offer was open to all club members so we all have a responsibility of sorts. I for one am happy to repay Ajay out of club funds if the freeloaders don't cough up as they said they would. If you kick people in the wallet like this, how likely is anyone to want to help out in future? And, BTW, I didn't go, I have paid my sub, and I didn't participate in the discussion so I have no axe to grind.
  10. Oi - you lot - NO! You're worse than Andrew friggin Gilligin :D What on God's green earth is wrong with posts being moved into the forum they're supposed to be in? There's no censorship in the unmoderated forum so anyone can say what they like. Even Mr Blaine can whittle away to his heart's content or until it drops off. Why is this a problem?

At the risk of being wrong, I believe posting in "For Sale" is a member benefit so if you haven't subscribed, perhaps that's it?
  12. I get roadkilled loads of times. The problem is not usually the competition but little zit faces in rust boxes who think that wearing baseball caps back-to-front increases their 0-60. But the great thing about Zeds is, who cares? You know you can blow them into the weeds so why bother? You enjoy the drive, they get the ticket / crash / hassle. It's a bit like Mike Tyson not having to punch every other bloke on the planet's lights out. Actually, that's a crap metaphor but you know what I mean :D
  13. Just as well it's got a wide 4rse kit then!
  14. .... and when I've found out, we'll post something. But some advance guesses: Someone might have complained. We'd rather not interfere at all if at all possible, so if something is borderline, we'll leave it unless someone reports the post and gives a reason why - which is what the AUP is for. So if someone complained about thread A but we had no complaints about thread B, thread A might get moved and thread B not. Mods are different people and might have different sensibilities about different subjects so one might interpret the some rules slightly more / less leniently than the others. With the utmost of pedantical respect to Mike D, Paul's question about why some threads are moved and some are not is a slightly different question to whether or not we should have moderation at all.
  15. Actually, that's a bloody good question. Pardon me while I toddle off and consult the rest of the Modulators.
  16. Oh and a couple of points: I thought they were funny - funny and filthy. Which is why IMO the unmoderated forum is a better place for them. And they weren't deleted so everyone can still enjoy them - and they can't complain because they know it's unmoderated. Cheers - Gio
  17. Wasn't me but I'll stick me head over the parapet. 1) "Most"? I can only see two recently - Mary had a little... and test icles. 2) Acceptable use policy can be found in full here http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=22127 and some quotes: There's also something about pornography which might have been taken to apply to Mr Blaine. Not that I minded the threads and posts but it seems reasonable to be that a moderator would decide (on the basis of the AUP) to move them to the unmoderated forum. Oh, and importantly Does this help oh Duffman? Cheers - Gio

It's a cool piece of software isn't it? God knows how they do it. The shopping cart is handled by http://www.conceptzperformance.com and I think a few people have talked to them and ordered parts. Me - I cheat and look up the parts then ask Mike! Also it is a little out of date in some respects and a few sections are missing. But it is a hell of a lot better than nothing :D

No they're not. Courtesy invent the second half of the part number so you can't look up on their site and then go and buy elsewhere! Either buy off MJP in the Trader's forum or have a play on http://www.300zx.lv/catalog/?m=Z32

Anyone here? Or any of the other clubs/forums? Stock gearboxes are mostly fine for stock power. If you uprate power, you need to make sure all your components (incl gearbox) suit the mods you have made. People convert autos to manuals (mainly) because their autobox has problems and conversion to manual looks cheaper than a proper rebuild of the autobox. But it is a complete PITA. You can (so I am told) do a really good conversion from auto to manual and (because of the smaller turbos which spool up quicker) get more torque earlier in the rev range. If you want a manual, look after the auto and sell it to someone who wants an auto while you are looking for a good manual. Conversion for the wrong reasons will ruin an auto and give you a hybrid which may not be perfect. Cheers - Gio PS this is no value judgement on auto vs manual as this is an old / recurring discussion. My car is a manual, lots of people like autos, a good conversion can be a gas and when I joined the LLOC, boy I was glad of an autobox.
  22. Just bear in mind that - until the club has its own bank account - we would be asking an individual to bear the risk of publishing their bank account details. Not a good idea IMO. And again - just to keep the risk low - an account like Paypal or Fastpay lets the club receive money without having to publish the club's bank details. It would be a complete *rse if the club bank account got raided and all our money disappeared. Cheers - Gio
  23. Oh look - here's a couple of numbers on the back of the order I just got: 0800 279 6620 tel (The non-free number is 020 8636 9451 and their fax is given as 020 8636 9401 which looks similar to the fax number) I just rang 'em up to be awkward and they say that sometimes they do ask for fax verification - you can call them on the above number and they'll sort you out matey!
  24. That's cos their e-mail said they wouldn't deal with it on the phone. Send them an e-mail instead. But it does sound odd. I've bought stuff off Amazon and never had what you describe. Cheers - Gio
