  1. 93 on ward Zs had electronic HICAS http://www.300zx.org.uk/_vti_bin/shtml.exe/search.htm (If you stick HICAS in this search box, you'll get some docs) http://www.300zx.org.uk/model_variations.htm
  2. Thanks vijay, Trevz should be safe enough with the No 11s here, then http://www.piaa.co.uk/wipers/wipershow.asp?make=NISSAN (DaveW, there's a dealer list and list of online shops) Thanks - Gio (b19rks - think I'll get a pair of carbon effect ones for the Max Power experience :D )
  3. After all, size can be important :D Vijay posted about this before and got 2 people saying they had 21" wipers and 1 saying they had 22". Mine are only 19". (Not a surprise as my wife would say!). And I never noticed until I was looking for a new pair. PIAA's listing for the Z32 gives 21" (well, 52.5cm) - is this size OK? No problems? TIA - Gio
  4. Bob - Safe and Sound in the Traders Forum - will post you one if you ask him nicely.
  5. As for exhausts, I've got a Mongoose and it's fine - but it does bug me slightly because it's got big (3") tailpipes. I was doing some research for more normal tailpipes and found http://www.powerflow.co.uk http://www.quicksilverexhausts.com/ http://www.exhausts.uk.com/home.cfm You can have wide choice of tailpipes on your exhaust but make sure you choose right before you order it - you can't change them afterwards! My Bell Direct insurance (no mods, full ncb, J import): Nov 00 - £762 Nov 01 - £818 They do not guarantee a replacement car despite charging the insurance premium for one. I complained about this and they said "tough" When I put a Mongoose s/s exhaust on, they charged £19 for 5 months (approx £45 per year). What's worse, they then excluded the exhaust from the cover - but only after I had paid the extra premium. So you pay extra because you have a modification but the modification is not covered? Sharks. I complained and got no answer. Nov 02 quote - £919 so round objects to that. You can take your policy and snotty attitude to imports / mods and shove it. Lifesure: £480  HTH - Gio

And there's a whole bunch of info, write-ups, how-to and much more at http://www.300zx.org.uk collated by our very own AndyP
  8. Yep, petrol definitely "goes off". It is a mix of all sorts of fractions, accellerants, additives blah blah all of which evaporate at different rates. So after a time, the mix in your tank is not the one which Mr Shell sold you. Don't know the timescales - probably more than a few weeks before it gets serious. Cheers - Gio
  9. Ouch - bummer. Hope the insurance coughs up quick....

    www.beyondsl.net sorry for the ad....
  12. hehehe - well this appears to be one of those Z myths! I have sent the photos to Bridgestone to see what they say and if there is a reply, will post it. In the mean time, if you have J spec wheels all round, IMO don't bother to change the rears for UK spec! Cheers - Gio PS if anyone wanted to post the real tread width of their 225 or 245 tyres, I'd keep a summary list. Ideally post 225 or 245, tyre name, width at widest point, wear-to-wear tread width.
  13. Try sticking "detonation" and "turbocharger" into google and you will have lots of info. Or you could look at http://www.300zx.org.uk/general_tech_info.htm or http://www.howstuffworks.com/engine.htm or http://www.howstuffworks.com/turbo.htm
  14. That would imply that if you wanted to use the TT fan, you would need the loom for the TT which is compatible with the sub-fan relay. Which has a different socket for the fan than the NA version (according to you). Is the fan itself different in the motor windings to cope with the two different speeds? NFI, mate - good luck finding out! As a non-techy, it strikes me that the TT engine will put more thermal stress into the cooling system than the NA. Therefore, you would need to upgrade your cooling system to at least as good as the TT: 2 speed fan, sub-fan relay, TT wiring etc etc. But I remember you are doing a lot with intercoolers et al so you might be able to get away with it. As I said, good luck! Cheers - Gio
  15. Clarkey - we measured the friggin things with the results posted above - tread width is smaller on the 245 than on the 225. TT Tim - I agree with you but why do you think UK tyres are wider? The ones I photographed certainly weren't. NigelBoyd - yes that's exactly why I asked the question. So we have the summary at the moment that no-one can suggest a logical reason why the 245 tyres on the UK wheels in the photos are better than the 225 tyres on the J wheels. Noone can say why the UK rims are 8.5" vs the J 7.5". And noone can say why the 245s are a narrower tyre than the 225s. Yours ever - Gio
  16. MAC 1, yes mate, I accept that usually a wider tyre means better grip (all things being equal) but as you can see from the pics, the 245 tyre isn't wider! Stu - yes absolutely, but the measurements of the tread were taken from wear edge to wear edge (the tyres have been on the car for miles) so this is actually the width of the tyre tread in use on the car.
  17. You need to check page EF & EC-31. HA-111 and HA-134 might also be useful. The TT aircon fan is a 2 speed unit and the NA is only single speed. The activation temps depend on Aircon on/off, speed above or below 25mph. All these combinations are given in EF & EC-31. There's so many of them, forgive me for not retyping! HTH - Gio PS that's why the TTs have a sub-fan relay and the NAs don't - it's to select between Low / High which NAs don't do. I don't know whether the fan is different TT to NA or if it's just the sub-fan relay which makes the difference.

They didn't start making them til 1989....
  19. Here's a wheel conundrum. "Everyone says" you should replace the J spec rears with UK spec rears. Both are 16". J spec are 7.5" wide and take a 225/50. UK are 8.5" wide and take a 245/45. The UK wheel is 1" wider than the J spec. The UK tyre should be 20mm wider (0.78"). That's the theory! In this picture, there is a UK wheel/tyre and a J spec wheel/tyre. Can you tell the difference? No, neither could I and neither could the guys at Protyre. So I took some close-ups: Tyre A is 221mm wide at the sidewall and has wear-to-wear tread of 197mm Tyre B is 218mm wide at the sidewall and has wear-to-wear tread of 199mm Which one is the 225 and which the 245? Both are Bridgestone S-03s. Actually Tyre A is 245 and Tyre B is 225. Which means the theoretically 20mm wider tyre is in reality 2mm narrower! Also, according to Protyre, the J spec profile of 50 should give you a marginally smoother ride as this is not quite so low profile as the UK 45. Now, given the 245 tyre has no more tread than the 225, has a slightly harsher ride and costs £30 more, tell me again why I should want to get rid of my J spec rears and replace them with UKs? From the evidence so far, it seems that J spec owners can stop worrying about having 225s all round - there's no tread difference, you get a slightly better ride (I can't tell the difference but that's the theory) and they're cheaper. Any tyre gurus here who know any different? Be interested to hear... Cheers - Gio
  20. Thank y'all and as a manual owner, can I say I was well impressed when Gary (who picked me up from the station in Mrs Gary's auto Zed) gave it some welly - I think that's the first time I thought f*** me in any auto. Nissan must have got something right :D b19rks - yep, that's just one example of why you shouldn't go to meets: you find things out, get ideas and spend money  Herman - guess how long the good weather lasted from the pics you see here? 23 minutes until the first shower turned the road slippy slippy  john-boy - black.. Black BLACK BLACK ..... perhaps better not :p paul , richard - the mudflaps are (they tell me) a J market OEM option. Despite some research through the gurus of non-UK parts, we could not find how to order these. I was lucky as martinfa was selling a set because he was putting a bodykit on. I think in over a year, I have only heard of 2 mudflaps sets for sale. Warren's went to someone else and I got martinfa's. Sorry I can't give the part number as I haven't found it yet! And thanks to the kind words from everyone else - I have to say that I am so pleased to get my Z back again. Cheers guys'n'gals - Gio happy happy singy dancy :D hello clouds hello sky hello v6 hello 280hp hello zed :D :D

  22. Ouch :D - almost as "ouch" as: "Have you heard, Marc Bolan's on the radio?"... "and the dashboard, steering wheel, windscreen......." which, from memory, took less than 24 hours to surface.
  23. Hooray! I got my Zed back today. Two months and 3 days after a git drove into me. Twice. (And failed to give insurance details so the lawyers are now involved - but that story will have to wait until the court case / website update.) Accident story is here What a nice man Gleaming in Linconshire today Even more silvery than she was before Coo look ... clean Just a few bits and bobs to finish off: refurbish the 2nd set of wheels, clean the targa bags, put the sub-woofer and CD changer back, new wipers, club stickers, rear gearbox oil seal, stop the squeaky belts and off to merry France! Oh - and get the list together for Items For Sale (two J spec wheels, LHS 1990 Rear Light Panel Unit and some other stuff which is in the garage but it's raining and I ain't going out there right now.) Roll of honour: Gary Bellamy, dabhand with a welder and spray gun; Mike Feeney MJP Auto, parts supremo; AndyZ & Ken ZXS pre-owned parts supremos (supremos of pre-owned parts, perhaps I should have said); Deano for the front bumper; RichardSmith for the UK wheels; Jeff TT; AW Accident Repair; kind words and kind offers from James300, Herman Munster, PaulC, Russ, Anita, paulnewman, TonyC, Jez, john-boy - and everyone I forgot. And my mum. And Shakespeare. And Arnie's such a wonderful director - I love you all:D :D . What very very nice peeps you all are. That's a big thank you from me and a big thank you from my bright and shiny Zed! Cheers - Gio
