Help please. Accident repair
The guy I used (GB Vehicles in Lincolnshire) is a body shop so don't think could do Simon's damage. If Zedworld can't fit you in, try Dan Perkins Slough 01753 538444 or Steve Sherwin at Lucas Garage (01753) 520403. Good luck, mate HTH - Gio

NZR Music downloads
Hi Mac, whatever you do make sure you've got the latest virus definitions in good anti-virus s/w AND a good firewall. Keep them up to date and keep your Windows bang up-to-date. I know this is grannies/eggs but the *unofficial* peer-to-peer networks are crawling with all sorts of unpleasantnesses, script kiddies and whatnot. Better safe than sorry!

Convince me
MPG really depends on weight of right foot, any mods and how healthy the engine is. Mine's manual and stock and gets 20 - 25mpg mainly because I drive like a wuss. If you've got a 200SX, then you'll know about Japanese build quality, engineering and so on. The 300ZX should be just that bit better as it was a supercar of its day. It's a "proper" car. Engine at the front, driven wheels at the back as God intended. I've never driven a 200SX so my guess is you'll find the 300ZX just a tad heavier in feel but significantly more grunty with oodles more power (getting technical here :D ). As Mike says, take one for a drive - you won't regret it! HTH - Gio

Rear Tyres
http://www.tyresave.co.uk/tyrspeed.html http://www.blackcircles.com/tyres/speedrating y = 186mph w = 168mph I guess it depends on what the insurers think you should have - which would be the same as the manufacturer.

For headlight bulbs, try here
errr  I think it means that if you want to upgrade your bulbs, you can buy them at the link Richard posted. He says that if you want them for the main beam, they've got them. So you can upgrade your main beam by buying the brighter bulbs. What's to explain?

Steering / HICAS question......
How odd  Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the operator - it's always the same guy and he does know about ZXs. They're definitely on their laser aligment computer! I last went there in November so it's not that long ago. Just remember that HICAS doesn't operate when static - so the rear wheels should be straight ahead. Perhaps they thought you wanted the 4-wheel steering itself adjusting? Dunno. HTH - Gio

Steering / HICAS question......
I tried the place that Dan Perkins sent me to (up the Farnham Road IIRC) and was less than impressed. I now use this lot and they seem to know what they're doing http://www.protyre.co.uk/slough.html HTH - Gio

What is detonation?
To add to the above practical advice, detonation is when the fuel-air mix in your cylinder explodes rather than burning smoothly (but effing quickly). It is caused by a number of things: wrong octane fuel, wrong fuel/air mix and a bunch of other stuff too technical for me. It is not good. You can end up wrecking pistons, engines etc. Sometimes - as Vijay says - the detonation sensor fails. This can be bypassed for a test but I would be far too nervous to run an engine for real without finding and fixing the fault. Otherwise how do you know it's the sensor or a serious problem about to blow your engine. Good luck - Gio

14 pages of Zs and the Front Cover - J Perf
Japanese Performance Issue 37 Feb 2004 dropped through my letterbox this morning. 2 Zs on the front cover: a 260Z (main pic - wondrous) and a track-prepped 300ZX Z32 from http://www.opposite-lock.net/ The blue 260Z was featured in the ZClub mag last issue but it looks so good (and has 400bhp) it's well worth another article!

Import Duty
You don't pay "duty" on shipping, you pay VAT. The exact duty varies depending on what tariff code the thing you are importing is. And just about every single teeny little thing has its own Tariff code. For example: Fuel Regulator is 870 899 9890 Shock Absorber is 870 880 9000 Gearbox Oil Seal is 848 590 8090 Every single Tariff Code can have a different duty percentage. Now, how do you find out what the tariff code is? Either buy the Tariff Code books which cost a bleedin fortune or work for a shipping agent. You can ring the local HMCE (Her Majesty's Customs and Excise) and they will give you a phone number (TARIC Consultation 01702 366077) and you can ask them what the right code is for the item you are importing. But only three items at a time. (good grief) Then you have to call your local HMCE office and give them the code to find out the duty rate. That's why I gave up and bought parts from someone who already imports parts! LIfe's too short. And this applies only IIRC to goods imported from outside the EU. In the old days, this applied to everything imported into the UK - but now if they are goods in free circulation in the EU (i.e. made or already imported) you don't have to do this anymore. (If you're still reading, that is at least one concrete good thing about the EU.) Anyhoo - car parts generally (apart from the exceptions which I don't know what they are) tend to be about 2.5% - 3.5% of duty and then of course there's the 17.5% Vodka and Tonic on top. The equation is (parts cost + duty + shipping) all + VAT. So for a rule of thumb ((parts + 3.5%) + shipping) * 1.175 should give you a good enough idea. Roughly what Smithy said! HTH - Gio

Bits and bobs
He's still here - just posted on the other forum in the past few hours. Don't think he'll disappear in a hurry - he's been parts guru since the Z Club started back in the 70s before most of you were born hehehe :D

Folding Wing mirrors
No. The sound you hear is something slightly worn or nor quite right. Mine does it sometimes and then starts again. Try what james300 suggested. I haven't done on mine as I find a swift blast of "ignore it in the hope it will go away" spray sometimes works. ;)

Boost control question, on NA to TT conversion!
Where do these figures of 7psi safety and 9.5psi stock come from? I've read the manual and asked tech gurus and can't find any Nissan publication which gives these figures at all. So are they invented, an urban myth that "everyone knows" or official? yrs pedantically - Gio

Oil gauge - mechanical vs electric
Hi TopLess, this all started when my stock oil pressure gauge started going wobbly. Gave me a nasty shock, I can tell you "WTF has all my lovely oil gone? ". But from the diagnosis and advice, it seems that it is probably just the sender (one on order). (not losing any oil, no smoke, good pressure when cold, only goes haywire after about 10 mins, reading comes back intermittently) But I hated the feeling of doom the first time it happened - so was thinking of fitting a backup! Proper set of gauges will probably have to wait for someone to pay an invoice! Cheers - Gio
