  1. Thanks Guys - and, Danny, since it was you lot who caused me all this pain in my wallet, how about a free re-test
  2. LOL yes I like to have other people play guinea pig for strange new things! Thanks to all for the advice - I hadn't noticed all the recent posts thanks to Tony and his new firewall in the office. I am now having it reprogrammed with a very large axe. :D
  3. Coo blimey shrimpo, that was quick! I'm getting both sides (Lymon and the Billing Conzult said one was u/s and the other was sticky). So should be OK then?
  4. On the Courtesy site, they list a different part for Passenger Side and Driver Side Now of course in the US of A the driver sits on the wrong side of the car. Will these O2 sensors be OK for a UK (Japanese) car? TIA - Gio
  5. yes - try http://www.powerbulbs.com but if you want clear repeaters IIRC when I got them from Smithy, I got a pair of bulbs thrown in http://www.smithys-place.co.uk/300zx_repeaters.htm
  6. 1) You can get replacement standard looking rear spoilers from http://www.zcentre.co.uk or http://www.mjpauto.com (and they don't get waterlogged like the OEM ones). And, IIRC, they do skins to cover up where spoilers were to get the Deano spoilerless look. 2) Easy peasy - at least it was when Deano did it and flogged me his old 90 spec front bumper :p 3) My turbos have done 100,000m and have just started to give the first symptoms of being on the way out (blue smoke after idling). Lymon saw them at Billing and said they should be good for years as long as not abused. There isn't a specific thing in the service record for them but I guess if the rest of the car has been looked after that is a sign of a "caring" owner. Good luck - Gio

The year 2003 corresponds to Heisei 15 - It is the year of the Sheep http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2272.html The first year of an emperor's reign begins on his accession to the throne and ends on December 31; thereafter a new year of the reign begins each January 1. Strictly speaking, days in the first part of the year in which a new emperor takes the throne would be dated with his predecessor's nengō, and of course that is how contemporary records are dated. Scholars, however, have tended to label every day in such a year as year 1 of whatever nengō applied at the year's end. Years prior to the adoption of the nengō system are often dated by the official posthumous name of the emperor and the year of reign. To distinguish such dates from true nengō, the word tennō (“sovereign”) is usually added to them. Unlike nengō dates, the first year of reign is the first full year of reign. Recent nengō are: Kyōwa, 1801–1804 Bunkwa, 1804–1818 Bunsei, 1818–1830 Tempo, 1830–1844 Kōkwa, 1844–1848 Kaei, 1848–1854 Ansei, 1854–1860 Man-en, 1860–1861 Bunkyū, 1861–1864 Genji, 1864–1865 Keio, 1865–1868 Meiji (“Enlightened Rule”), 1868–1912 Taishō (“Great Righteousness”), 1912–25 December 1926 Shōwa (“Enlightenment and Harmony”), 25 December 1926–7 January 1989 Heisei (“Achieving Peace”), 7 January 7 1989– To convert a Japanese year to a Western year, find the year in the common era of the first year of the nengō from a table like the one above, subtract 1, and add the number of the Japanese year. For example Showa 23 would be (1926 − 1 = 1925, 1925 + 23 = 1948).
  8. That's the plan! But will it work? I would guess that the more extreme the mods you do, the harder it will be to sell. (It appeals to a smaller group of potential buyers).
  9. Jasper Carrott was right - just go round making pt-tschhh noises It'll be cheaper and f*** up your engines less.
  10. "Has anyone seen my elbows? I really really need to scratch me ***e" :D (PS 4 letter word ending in "e" = "nose". Shame on you if you had a different solution hehehe) :D

Yes but that'll be measured in the new metric smaller horses so it looks (but only looks) like you've got more of them
  12. "What car are you gonna get next?" Eh?

*ahem* In 1991, a JUN 300ZX set the record of 419.84kmh (260mph) at Bonneville. The record still stands. http://www.junauto.co.jp/democar/jb-z32/index.html?en Ten years later, the same company, JUN, tried with a Supra and, with the benefit of ten more years of development, reached.... 401.2 kmh (249mph) http://www.junauto.co.jp/reports/bonneville2001/index.html?en Still slower than the Zed, then :D
  14. found the price for the centre x-shaped bit alone was (in May 2001) £395+VAT = £464.13 bloody nora. Clearly this was before I found this forum!
  15. One XL, please Mac. Ta - Gio
  16. Roughly speaking standard is left and right downpipes, left and right cats, x-shaped centre section then left and right back boxes. See pic. I changed my Nissan x-shaped centre section and left and right back boxes for left and right Mongoose stainless. Each side bolts onto the cats and there isn't and centre section. So, yes, you can have stainless steel from the standard downpipes (known as cat back if you keep the cats so you have s/s from the cats back if you see what I mean). From memory (check with a dealer for up to date) the centre section alone was about £350 and each back box was about £150 - all made out of Nissan spec mild-cardboard. So Mongoose (and other) s/s are a real bargain. HTH - Gio
  17. Thanks Andy, yep - did all those 12 months ago :( Such is life (trivia time: famous last words of ?) I did read that dropping the gearbox would give access if you had small hands but forget on which website I found it. TopLess, there is a suggested place to relocate which is the back two bolts in the middle (H LeHir, I believe) but as I think has been said here, the best possible location for the knock sensor to detect is where Mr Nissan's engineers put it in the first place ;) Cheers - Gio
  18. Hallo all, thanks to Eric / Danny and the Conzult at Billing I now know I need to replace the knock sensor and the two O2 sensors. B*gger. I take it the O2 sensors are the same thing as wot the manual calls Exhaust gas sensor (EF & EC-16). I have found the immensely helpful basic procedure for plenum removal here http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=30838 thanks to the immensely helpful andyduff. 1) I did the pcv valves and hoses last year - do you think I'll get away without redoing them now? 2) If so, from andyduff's list, I need turbo bypass kit upper-lower intake gasket throttle body gasket x 2 IACV gasket EGR gasket x 2 3) Is there anything else I should be doing at the same time while we're fiddling about down there? Like is it a good time to replace coilpack connectors? No mods to the engine. TIA - Gio
  19. and some more... ;)
  20. hehe at last something mechanical I did before any of you lot! Dec 81 and it was f cold in that unheated garage. And now it's anorak time - can anyone identify that bonnet? (Yes they even had body kits back in the 60s!) :D
  21. Sorry to hear it mate. If you're in Nottingham, the obvious one is FG Accident Repair (used by Luke ZCentre) 0115 986 0690. The one the jigged my Z (laser jig jobbie) is AW Accident Repair http://www.awrepairgroup.co.uk/index2.htm 0870 460 5787 Good luck - glad you're OK - Gio
