  1. BTW - who did the logo / design? Nice one - tres stylish
  2. As an ex-mod: no, being a mod is a thankless task, mostly. What Mrs CD says is spot on. I can't speak for the others, but for me, the motivation to pay / mod / get involved was because I got / get so much good advice from this forum that it was time to give something back. And I was asked, which is nice. There's a lot of good people and banter here - which is also nice - but the main reason for bothering (and persisting) is "the best damn sports car on the planet" :D

Bloody youngsters - where's Vinz when you need him? Ebeneezergoode a "blast from the past"? :( I dunno music these days... tch tch If it ain't got a Fender strat in it, it probably ain't music  Or a Gibson Flying V. Or a Moog. (oops) :)
  4. I went on a skidpan session (great fun) and the instructor said that there was no way a normal human can manually (or pedally) brake better than ABS - let alone retain steering control.
  5. Thanks to Russ at http://www.zclub.net for pointing this out: http://www.gsb.co.uk/menandmotors/competitions/100mpce/index.php as he says
  6. hahahaha  4.5MB courtesy of those fine folks at http://www.aus300zx.com
  7. Blimey, you know how to punish yourself  glad you got the Zed back in time :D I'm sure the locals will be stunned - they don't often see the internal combustion engine oop there tha knows :x:
  8. Wise words mate - and if any of you guys are running an "unupdated" Windows, don't! I have to do tech support for some of our customers and the number of times we find the problem is caused by some f***wit not RTFMing... The latest one said "I had a pirate copy of Windows installed in the Middle East and it wouldn't update correctly. So I bought a real copy of XP Pro and upgraded because I couldn't be bothered to do a fresh install. Now my IE isn't working properly so it must be your fault." :mac1: :slap: If you have OS glitches, do a fresh install and update before anything else. Anything else is like bypassing your knock sensor so you can turn the boost up!

Just to be really pedantic (no change there then :D ) these gadgets don't measure rwhp, they measure your acceleration and then use the weight of the car to calculate the power needed to accelerate that mass at the rate it measured. But what that means is you will get a very good result based on how fast you and your car really moved - so IMHO this is even more accurate than most rolling road dynos. I wonder if (to be really accurate) you have to include the weight of driver / cd jukebox / krooklok / crisp packets as well?
  10. Whereabouts are you Vijay? I'm working in Staples Corner at the moment - not that I know too much but might swop a few words for your opinion on my boostleak! My car used to do this too. It's coming up to 100,000 miles and the turbos are the original ones. Still got cats. I first noticed the smokey idle when it was being MOT'ed a few years back - let it rumble for a few minutes and then blue smoke. Touch wood it has eased off now after PCV valves last year (better but not 100% cure - happened less often) and I think it has maybe got better still after all the work just done. While replacing the knock sensor, they found that the rubberised inlet pipes to the turbos were contaminated with oil - dunno from where, maybe just age. Replaced these with a secondhand pair slightly less grubby from Mr F and so far, the problem is less - but it's only been a couple of weeks.
  11. OK that's only 15 away from mine (orig registration, that is) of G851 EJH. Wonder if it was bought at the same place: Farley's in Barkham, Berks? August 1999.
  12. If you look hard enough, you can always find someone spouting the benefits of the "perfect" engine - at least by their own criteria. Are you talking about primary or secondary balance? (To name just one of the possible criteria). This starts as soon as you get to 2 cylinders: boxer, parallel twin 180 or parallel twin 360. And even with boxer there are at least 2 physical layouts (offset crankshafts or "knife and fork"). So to start making claims that "the only car that has any claim to refinement is xxxxx" is complete b****** :D Engine / car design is MUCH more complex than that and EVERY engine design is a compromise and a balance of compromises. That is what engineering is.
  13. hahaha great site for wasting a few hours - here's a couple more BMW lets you cook while driving home http://www.anewwaytocook.co.uk/shef/index.htm Robot using Mini as a starting point http://www.r50rd.co.uk/research/internal/v2i/engin/index.html
  14. http://www.museumofhoaxes.com/hoax/weblog/atlantic_tunnel/ And they're taking the word "gullible" out of the dictionary 'cos no-one uses it any more

Used to but I'm in an office in Staples Corner atm and have you seen the sh*tholes they call "pubs" round here?
  16. Good point - I did have one of my Bridgestone's repaired last year or sometime (by ProTyres in Slough). The repair was fine until the tyre needed changing. But then I am not one of nature's sideways merchants and try to stay within the definition of *ahem* "making good progress" :D and my Zed's still restricted and I have never hit the limiter (wimp). Also to add to the earlier post, you need to do about 10 or 15 miles immediately after inflating the tyre with Tyre Weld. I wouldn't like to do that with only 24 psi in it - which is why I used the air pump as well to get up to "proper" 36 psi.
  17. I used it last week - rear tyre had a nail too close to the sidewall for repair and you can imagine how hard it was to find 245/45ZR16s on a Bank Holiday :( One can of Tyre Weld (marked for small saloons IIRC) got to about 24 psi. Then pumped up with the Harry Halfords air pump to 36psi. Drove around for a bit (as it said on the can) - pressure held fine. Then the next day, I drove 80 or so miles ("motorway speeds", officer) to an airfield, whupped J Clarkson in John-Boy's 350Z over 1/4 mile on an airfield (twice) and drove 100 miles (more "motorway speeds" :D ) to Micheldever Tyres. The Tyre Weld worked fine throughout - held the pressure OK. The above abuse / speeds was way over what they say on the tin so is not a recommendation that you should do the same. I asked a tyre place for advice and they said Tyre Weld should last you a week. Obviously it can't repair knife slits or big slashes but in my case - nail through tread - it was just the job. They also said that some tyre places charge extra for replacing / repairing Tyre Welded tyres as they get very gunked up - but Micheldever didn't. HTH - Gio

You should be grateful he's accusing you of having any sort of personality :D :D
  19. "This number plate is illegal" very Zen hehe
  20. or how about these - couldn't get clearer than this!
  21. Thought this poster rang bells - http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=22919 http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=18584 http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=18511 And according to his sig(s) he's in Sweden and Kent and (over in the ZClub) Luton. http://www.zclub.net/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2482 And he says he lives in Spain. Oh and here he calls himself "jason" and over there he calls himself "cherry" Is it a troll or a windup or someone from one of the importers trying to spread rumours about one of the other importers or someone trying to get the forum to say something nasty about one of the importers or dense or just a CWOFT?
  22. Jspec has the same wheel all round which take the 225/50 R16 tyre. 33psi front and rear. They're 7.5" rims with a 45mm offset. Stamped into the rim you will find: L 40P05 (for the left side wheel) and 40P00 R (for the right) The UK has the above as front tyres and wider wheels at the rear which take 245/45 R16 36psi. They're 8.5" rims with a 35mm offset. L 40P15 and 40P10 R And bear in mind they are handed as well - wrong way round: right way round: If you look down the side of the car, J wheels (and UK front) look vaguely dished outwards and UK rear look dished inwards. This concludes everything I know about wheels! (Except that Bridgestone S-03s in 225 at the rear lasted me 18 months / 18,000 miles and when I switched to UK rears, S-03s in 245 only lasted 11 months / 11,000  )
