Steering Geometry?
Yep - you either need the camber correction kit or a set of adjustable top links. Have a search and you should find the info on this forum somewhere.

Insurance Valuation !!!
Hi Pete, welcome to the other side :D I don't think we've got a proper insurance valuer so I guess you'll do! If no-one official replies, drop a pm to shunter as he is Club Secretary. (note to every one else: Pete is well known to ZClub members and I know he has certainly done insurance valuations on 300zx.co.uk cars: mine for one!)

Poor old Swastika loving Harry
Precisely. Because he's royalty he should have known better. And I make no claims to speak for the Jewish community. But I can quote from what they say I couldn't agree with her more. full story here http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4171893.stm

Poor old Swastika loving Harry
He is third in line to the throne and supposedly an adult. If he, unlike most other young people, didn't realise how insensitive he was being, then his judgement and/or intelligence ain't up to much. And good grief, he didn't exactly show much understanding of what happened when his great-grandfather was Head of State of this country. Numbskull.

Springtime for Hitler = funny (very very very funny) Freddie Starr p*ss take = funny (well not to me but that's just 'cos I don't like Freddie Starr) Basil Fawlty goosestepping round the Germans = pants-wettingly funny A Royal thinking it's funny to wear a swastika in the 60th anniversary year of the discovery of the holocaust, Auschwitz, Belsen, 6 million dead = sick. Not understanding how much offence this gives = stupid. And no, I ain't Jewish.

What Should I do ???????????
It's been said before (even on this thread!) and it'll be said again - but this is the only correct advice. 1) If a forum member: via forum dispute resolution (eg MAC1 for trader and shunter for members if you see what I mean) 2) If no result or not a forum member: Trading Standards http://www.tradingstandards.gov.uk/ and take their advice. Or a motoring organisation you are a member of (RAC, AA, Green Flag etc). Or your insurance legal service. 3) If you paid by credit card (not charge or debit), they may be a party to the contract under Sale of Goods / Consumer Protection Act and (if they agree your claim) can be very powerful allies. 4) Suing someone or a company through the Small Claims Court sounds a lot scarier than it is. Read the forms, fill 'em in properly, ask the Clerk of the Court for advice (that's what they're paid for) and go for it. You can even do it online http://www.courtservice.gov.uk/index.htm and there's yet more good advice here http://www.bbc.co.uk/crime/law/smallclaimscourt.shtml. As it says . I sued a bodyshop for doing substandard work and won. But you have to follow the rules to stand a chance. Airing the dispute in public before it comes before the court is a sure-fire way of p*ssing off the judge and risks prejudicing your claim. And this forum is a public place.... Leaving aside the fact that it is illegal to offer legal advice without being properly qualified, you are far more likely to get better advice from qualified people than asking "a bloke in a pub" or even forum members. Boring but probably safer - Gio

AndyP Ace Clock Repairer
Hi Andy - many thanks for the clock repair, mate. Plumbed in and shining brightly. Nice. :p Just one thing, though, it was delivered with the wrong time on it - it was 4.35 when it was installed but it arrived from you with 00:00 on it.

jap and uk differences in parts
You got it: there ain't no such animal as "uk non-turbo" (Z32, at least). Be warned: it's either a mistake or the first sign of a seller with little knowledge or too much bull! If you are Swindon way, should have a word with Baggins (ZTech). Good luck - Gio

jap and uk differences in parts
We're fairly lucky. All Jap parts (well, almost all) are readily available from specialists in the UK (see this forum's Trader section) or you can mailorder from http://www.conceptzperformance.com or http://www.courtesyparts.com And if you're in Swindon, take a look at ZTech - also in Trader section. Cambelt kits easily available - in fact, can't think of a part that you can't get: maybe the titanium keys (although someone just unearthed a batch.)

99 Spec front number plates?????
Only if they are a Registered Number Plate Supplier http://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/rnps.htm - and, oh look, Outlander is! http://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/rnps/search.cgi Blimey, you're young. :D "Motorcycles and tricycles registered before 1.9.2001 can display a number plate at the front but are not required to." and Not quite: you can (on some cars) have smaller plates quite legally "Certain imported vehicles may be permitted to display number plates with smaller characters if: The vehicle does not have European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval AND The vehicle's construction/design cannot accomodate standard size number plates" So it all turns on the wording "cannot accomodate standard size numberplates". Clearly JDM rear bumpers "cannot accomodate" but 99-spec front bumpers? I guess it depends on how well-disposed the MOT / plod is. Absolutely - they have to be registered, they can only supply legal and they have to record your (and your car) ID details. As oneday says, there are a number of legal 3D and other effects - he's got a poster with them all on and can do them while you wait (plug OK for you, mate? :D ) It's all here http://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/regmarks/reg_marks_current_requirements.htm Gio "I'll do anything for a discount!"

300zx TT kicks ass......
Dave, if you want to sling me a copy gio@beyondsl.net, I'll bung it up on my server somewhere. "Gentlemen, start your engines" "Now, Jeremy, you press the pedally thing down to go forwards and turn the wheely thing to go round corners..." Who is this man and what is he doing? :D

Air Con Re-gas
Before PaulC posted, I used Mark IV Air Conditioning in Langley 01753 512747. £76.38 incl VAT in 2003. And yes, it was just a drop in replacement with fresh lube/oil - all designed and tickety-boo. Changing all the seals etc is just a way of hiking the price.

Hicas light??
Baggins and ya5een are right - the fluid shrinks slightly more than the container so when it is a) low and b) cold, the level drops below the minimum until everything warms up.

"sikh and ye shall not find"
Sad day for freedom of speech. Another set of "fundamentalists" from another religion seeking to impose their values on others. As Craig says, I am sure the violent bigots do not represent all Sikhs so let's not be as narrowminded as the protestors. We bought our house from Sikhs, we've got several Sikh neighbours and they're all nice pleasant people (and our next door neighbours throw a fine party :D )

Speeding
Trev, when you hit a pedestrian, you are responsible - not the "over-zealous do-gooders". I agree with you that there are a lot of limits which have been lowered for some strange speed-nazi reason - there are a bunch round here. But what's to do? If we speed and either get caught or (much worse) cause an accident, the speed-nazis will say "there you are, told you so". So for me, stick to 30 in a 30 (because 1. the increased risk of you ending up with a death on your conscience/bonnet and 2. why does it matter?). Cheers - Gio

Done to death I know, sorry!!!
Well if you read the book(s) you will see that 300bhp is quoted in some circumstances, and 280bhp (or ps) in others. The "official Nissan" figures will not necessarily be the actual real amount - again, for the reasons given. There is only one "real" figure and that is the one your actual car has been measured at - and at the rear wheels. It's a bit like the accountant's reply. When you ask your accountant "how much profit have we made this year" he replies "how much would you like to make?" Why are you asking?
-
Done to death I know, sorry!!!
Richard, surely you can't mean the Japanese car manufacturers might lie? ;) Certainly when I was in the 2-wheeled world, all the top bikes were quoted as *cough* 125ps because this was the limit that the manufacturers had agreed to quote. :D
-
Done to death I know, sorry!!!
Justin - you spotted one thing that means there is usually more bull than illumination when this subject comes up: the Japanese manufacturers agreement not to quote more than 280hp. For some facts, let me quote from that excellent book "300ZX The Enthusiast's Companion" which is the subject of another thread and can be purchased here http://www.zclub.net/postnuke/modules/zshop/view_album.php?set_albumName=books And in the tables, they give: N/A 222 bhp @ 6,400rpm, torque 198lb/ft @4,800 US Manual turbo 300bhp (SAE) @ 6,400, torque 283 @3,600 US Auto 280bhp @ 6,400, torque 283 @ 3,600 Euro 280PS @ 6,400, torque 275 @ 3,600 Oh and here's another little-understood reason for confusion. US bhp SAE is not the same as Euro PS. (PS = Pferde starke = the literal translation of horse power in German because the relevant authority is DIN Deitsche Industrie Norman the equivalent of our BS British Standard and not the US SAE Society of Automotive Engineers). PS is standardised (IIRC) on the metric horsepower = 750 watt and not the old standard horsepower of 746 watt. So PS are bigger horses and the US like larger figures so stick with the smaller horses to get more of them.

camber
Yep this is correct - there is no adjustment on normal front camber so either the corrections as given above or the Stillen-type adjustable link arms. One of these days I might try getting new OEM springs and changing bushes. The theory is that over the years it all gets a bit tired and saggy down below (know the feeling) so just generally sags.

Speeding
Broadly speaking, the thing that kills pedestrians (eg your or someone else's dog / cat / child / loved one of your choice) is energy absorbed in acceleration or deceleration. i.e. being suddenly accelerated from 0mph to the 40mph the car that has just hit you is doing. Or, conversely, having had your head accelerated to 40mph by the car that just hit you and then coming to a massively sudden deceleration by, eg, trying to do 40mph through tarmac. Energy - or momentum in this case - is denoted by m = 1/2 (m*v squared) so it rises as the square of the speed. This is why the extra 5mph from 30mph to 35mph kills far more people than the difference between 70mph and 75mph. A table is here http://www.safe2travel.co.uk/speeding/ If you hit a pedestrian at 30mph, he has a better than even chance of surviving. If you hit one at 40mph, his odds are less than 1 in 5 of staying alive. That's why doing "just over 5mph" faster than the speed limit in a 30 limit is really serious IMHO and doing 75 in a 70 is irrelevant.
