Had a look at work today, if it is the oil pressure switch which does this its an XOPS48 made by Commercial Ignition (part of QH) and retails at £4.99 !!! Dont ask me how to fit the fooker though!!!

Thermostats tend to fail in the open position more often than in the closed, think they are designed to do this, so that they dont blow engines. If you have rust in system they can tend to fail when cold, but its unlikeley, id reckon this would oinly happen after letting the car stand for a long time. Id wager its an airlock, but if not the cause may be more servere!!! If you cant find any leaks on tickover it might be a good ida to give it a good hard rev on the spot, see if the increase in pressure causes any leaks. I had to do this to discover my knackered water pump, on tickover and low revs it was fine, but rev it to 4 grand or over and the bottom of the pump would leak, only thing is you never see your engine when its reving at 4k as your in it, thus you dont spot the leak. Oh , and Stu is dead right about the stat, if you try to run without it it will take hours as opposed to minuites to warm up, and also if youve got it stripped to the point of taking it out, you might aswell bung another in for a tenner!! Good luck, hope its an easy fix.

Sureley the stock replacement is just an oil pressure switch, retail of about £10 at most motor factors??:confused:

Stock J spec are paper coned crap, the previous owner of mine seems to of replaced mine with non paper coned crap instead!! I will have to upgrade to some slightly better crap i suppose, just to follow tradition!!!:D

Mine had a knackered wheelbearing on the N/S front, thought id have a look if the tire was ok before it goes into the garage, and it had wire poking out the inside!!! So I changed it quick!!! And to think i was doing over a ton on that!!!!:eek:

Ive got the innererds from mine sitting in my garage, took it off when i changed the spotlight bulb, but guess what, mines busted too!!! Think they must come broken as standard!!!
