Spotted two in ten minutes
I still remember spotting my first ever only 7 years ago, and up until now I can probably count them on one hand.

The Carbon Fibre Thread
The first piece came of the mould today. Few lessons learned. I only managed to get half the thickness of laminated glass fibre on the back of the mould due to being interrupted and my resin turning into concrete! I am pretty pleased with how this has come out and feels pretty solid. Lots of sanding before the infusion process later this week. I used a filler to get rid of the lines along the original part, and that has transferred on to the mould but will sand off easily.

want this!!
hmm that silver manual N/A with 200miles on the clock sold for 3.5k USD last week!

The Great Japanese Interior Re-trim
Update time: Sub is sounding amazing! Much much better than I expected. Turned the amp right down and adds the perfect depth to the sound. Doesn't resonate or feedback so you can't tell where the bass is coming from, it just fills the cabin. just roughly cut at the moment so need to sand it and cover it but very happy!! May even make a fiberglass one eventually to save some weight. And now I have to decide what to do with the seldom used rear seats. I would like them to match the theme which is reasonably minimalist/sleek with the Carbon kevlar bucket seats and charcoal alcantara. I have been inspired by teh singer porsche rear seats and am going to mock up some designs for building solid seats with alcantara "cushions"... ie. i think this could be matched with the other carbon work going on in the car, and may work cosmetically due to the seats being composite. i would look to keep the two piece design as the main advantage of the LWB is it's practicality.

The Carbon Fibre Thread
Hi Si, That's fair, it was just a quick scoping question to see if it is the kind of thing that I would make more of in the future, and would impact the type of mould I made so it wasn't just blind touting. Sorry if it came across like that. Also it gives me a bit of drive to actually start practicing this as it is rather time consuming :) But without that one question I wouldnt have known whether to sign up as a trader or not, so market research > Learning the skill > Trader account > customers. otherwise I would be going in blind. I am by no means taking orders at the moment. Best regards, William.

Zed no.2
I was going to basically swap a bunch of stuff from mine as I liked the 99 spec parts, but didn't want to restore that one. bad idle and boost sounds like a badass boost leak to me?

The Carbon Fibre Thread
Good to know there is a bit of interest out there guys! Scuttle panels look like they would be very tricky but I do need a new one as well so that was potentially the next build! :)

The Carbon Fibre Thread
Hi guys, Haha yep definitely one for a project. So, today I took a full inventory of the fabric and equipment I have picked up and labelled everything so i have an idea of what I can do, and took some swatches.... My first project will be Carbon Fibre door sill covers, similar to these: http://www.zthirtytwo.com/products/zthirtytwo-door-sills-carbon-fiber Imported these come to £215 a set to the UK. So, first thing to do is to make a rubber mould from my current one, and then use a resin infusion with a 2x2 200gsm carbon fibre twill for the top layer, and a coupel of 650G Twill carbon layers to add thickness. Would anyone be interested in these if I were to build a few sets? (Obviously subject to forum trader account) I think I could do them for £95 a set including shipping potentially.

retrimmed 4 spoke OEM steering wheel. Perforated leather
Hello! this was my first test retrim that I did before retrimming my wheel. The final effect is not bad, but I learn a few lessons from it. Wheel only, no airbag. please check the fitment as I believe there are a couple f different types. genuine leather with perforated inserts, and pale blue thread for the hand stitch. Looking for £50 + postage as it is which is what I paid for it originally, or can retrim again with your choice of thread for £110... for example here is the second one I build after the lessons learned: Best regards, W

What did you do to your zed today?
So spent yesterday no the road with the Zed for 12 hours as part of an ebay drop and shop collecting various bits including a guitar and carbon fibre. From London > Coventry > Birmingham > Preston > Birmingham > Cambridge > London. The car LOVED it ;) faultless drive covering around 600 miles. And WOW I can't believe how much love it got - From motorway drivers pointing and looking, to petrol station workers giving it love, and then every stop of I did it had multiple comments, to the point where the last chap I met took a video to show his mate who apparently loved it. in 3 years of ownership that is the most love it has had in such a short space of time. I can't help but feel the Zed is really coming into fashion now for lack of a better word. I reckon it is due to the fact they are so uncommon on the road and have aged so well, with a hint of classic supercar flair. They really start to stand out compared to the run of pointy oversize modern cars. Here's to the year of the 300.

The Carbon Fibre Thread
After 12 hrs on the road I now have the carbon fibre setup at home. SOOOOO many rolls of various carbon and kevlar weaves. A couple of air pumps, decompression chambers and spray guns Bit overwhelming really.. Where to start!!

The Carbon Fibre Thread
Ian, happy to share stories as we progress... I have also been offered a specialist oven for curing prepreg etc, but don't have the space unfortunately. Is that something you would be interested in?

The Carbon Fibre Thread
Hi guys, Those engine parts are cool, but I reckon could be built for less here, as tax and exchange rates arent in our favour now. I have had a few dipped parts in the past and always felt let down, you cant beat a bit of real 2x2 carbon fibre twill! :) I agree Si that skining might be an option for some bits. If it makes sense for a mould, specially if other wanted the same part then I could be better that route. Thanks for heads up re carmad. The Carbon Fibre Thread
Hello everyone, I am picking up the gear this weekend to start learning carbon fibre resin infusion. I am have a bunch of cheap fabric to learn with; and plenty of nicer material including carbon Kevlar etc for when I start building final parts. My aim is to create some gorgeous looking and strong aftermarket but oem shape parts for both the interior and exterior. I have searched some previous threads and sites and would like to compile a list of what is currently available and what people would like to see made. Seeing as some of this will require moulds to be build I would intend to be able to build the parts to order eventually (at which point a trader account would be in order). Currently I would like to try: Interior - door handles - double din centre facia - possibly steering console pods - speedo surround/backplate - door sill covers - front windscreen/bonnet plastic thing where the windscreen wipers are. Exterior - Wing mirrors - Front/rear splitters/lip - 99spec wing - plenum cover - fan shroud - Cam belt cover So, if people are currently offering these for sale please feel free to post pics here as I don't need to build things that are readily for sale. Also if there are items you would like to see built then comment and I will add to the list! Nothing bigger than already stated though due to space in my current place. Also it is likely I will be giving away some of my initial experiment parts if they are of any use to people. Best regards, William

Carbon fibre fabrication setup - thoughts/wisdom?
Thanks for the feedback guys! no horror stories so I think I will go with this. I will be workign outside for most of it, but will pick up a good quality filtering mask. Cheers!

Carbon fibre fabrication setup - thoughts/wisdom?
Hello! So to continue on with my obsession with rebuilding parts of my zed now I am happy with my seats and ready to install the sub build I want to play with composites and am going to pick up a carbon fibre setup. The idea is to build some small a bits and bobs, and then perhaps try fabricating something larger like a spoiler or front lip. Does anyone had any thoughts or words of experience first hand in doing this? If it worked out I might look into getting set up as a trader to sell some bits seeing as I would have made he moulds anyway. I understand it will be a learning curve and take ages to get finished products, but retrimming Seats wasn't a quick process ;) Best regards, W

Sub Install - Using boot floor as sub floor
I think you are right the aim is to be air tight with a sealed box, and I don't image i could fix it to the floor in a way that would be totally air tight... sealed box it is :)

Sub Install - Using boot floor as sub floor
Thanks for the link, that was actually one of my starting points for this build. So the idea is a sealed box for this as it should have a tighter sound, and this box will have pretty much exactly the right cu/ft air for the speaker. but I am just wondering about sealing it using the floor of the boot as the bottom panel?..
