Z32 N/A - Long distance trip reliability?
I used to drive my TT up and down the country every day. Its what the Zed is best out. As said just do all the usual checks and perhaps carry a spare PTU, maybe a few tools and hoses/clips?

I did the MCSA because I'd been working with servers for a few years and would have a fall back option of doing Cisco/MS if I couldn't go full cisco like I have. Servers (esp MS) bore me silly, although red hat seems a bit more interesting than MS. I did a bit of Linux/Unix a few years back when we ran some Solaris servers. Fortunately I've not touched a server in the last 18mths, and have designed and configured just about everything that cisco (and similar) sell so happy days. It'll be a big breath of fresh air when I get the last CCNP exam done. I doubt I'll rest for long mind as I want to crack the CCIE whilst I've got the momentum. I work for a big multi-national outsourcing company. They don't support me in so far as actually sending me on training courses ; I don't really believe in boot camps anyhow mind; they do pay for the exams though. I got an excellent report and expect a big pay rise once the CCNP is done, but may move to London and go for a job with perhaps the investment banks as that seems to be where the money is at the moment. The main advantage is the experience that I can get from such a big company as we have a lot of very big contracts. I can pretty much get into as deep water as I like, which is good as I prefer the progression that I get from always being slightly out of my depth and challenged. I just do a lot of testing and extra study when I get big jobs to make sure I get it right.

keeping it cool
There must be other better performing options than the Koyo? The Koyo isn't even as good as the stock rad, its just cheaper and better than an old stock one. What type of bumper do you have? I found the 99 spec one in my old car really helped to keep temps down compared to my first 1991 zed. Also (just my personal opinion) avoid front mount intercoolers as these block airflow to the rad, and waste the available space to the sides. There's lots of other possibilities as well: doing a minor mod on your bonnet hinges to lift the top end will give some extra air flow.

check out this mean machine!
I find it really hard to appreciate show cars lately. I just don't see the point of pumping so much cash into nice upgrades just for the sake of 'pub talk bhp figures' (proven or not), shiny blingness, and not driving the thing properly. There's some lovely looking detail on that car, the interior is stunning, but whats the point if its never going to be used? Its not really anything extreme as its just bolt on mods without any real performance research.

Nissan GT-R scoop video
My problem with the majority of sports cars at the moment is that they are all getting so big and heavy. They need 500bhp to go the same as a 15yr old car with 300bhp :-( The other car its going to be in competition with is the new Audi R8, which Evo mag reckon is better then the 911. Thats a pretty tall statement as nothing has ever beaten a 911 in tests in the mag. In went round their test circuit faster than a Koeniggsigg (sp?)

Nice little vid, the GTR never seems to be in front though! I'm looking forward to the launch, its got a lot to live up to. Just need the new Rx7 now to show them what a sports car really looks like

Average income of a 300zx owner?
This is a really interesting thread, there's been a few like it but not one where people have talked much about it. Its good to see peoples opinions on it. I've been working my tits off simply because I've done 'skint' and feel its time to try 'flush' :smw: Sometimes the lack of a life makes it hard to justify but hopefully soon it will pay back. I left the Marines on £25k nearly a year and a half ago. I had done a fair bit of IT whilst in the Marines as I always had my eye on what to do next because theres no big cash in the forces. I used to run deployable networks along with all the usual Marines stuff. The year I put my notice in I worked every day all day and got my CCNA and MCSA. I was lucky to go straight into a Cisco networking job as soon as I left. I accepted a fairly low wage (28k) for what I do as I knew the experience would be priceless for me. I've been doing stupendous amounts of OT (did 70hrs overtime in february, and the same in march, left me on the verge of a nervous breakdown!) and on top of that I've been studying for my CCNP for 18mths now every single day(nearly finished now, thank god). Most people I know have taken double the time to get the CCNP certification but I prefer to completely immerse myself and hopefully reap the rewards quicker. Plus its enabled me to take on some very big jobs and get valuable experience. The amount of work and study has nearly broken me but its been well worth it because once I've finished this last exam, and along with all the experience I've gained over the last 18mths I've got a market value approaching £50k in London. Some of the big boys who have gone on to do the CCIE (next level) are on double that. Thats my goal over the next year or two, although I need to make life a bit more relaxed at the same time and live it a bit rather than being 100% work orientated like I am now. I don't want to spend all my life working but I'm hoping that if I dedicate everything to work for a couple of years , kind of like a more serious university, then I can get to a good level and then slow the pace a little to enjoy the rewards more.

lovely convertable 1000bhp
Just to fuel the fire a bit. Whenever people from overseas come on here, eg America and Cyprus as recent examples I've seen, nobody believes the power figures, and they often do seen very inflated to what we are used to here. BUT what are the top times that someone in this country has posted for a Zed and what are the best figures in America? I havn't seen any good times posted in a zed in this country, but many extremely fast times in America, so perhaps we should be eating our hats? (or gambling Kirbz house :-) )

Wouldn't have thought you'd be into those Si? Doesn't seem like your usual taste. I don't know anything about the Camaro (the ones above look nice by the way), but I know that anything but the Z06 vettes can't go around a track for toffee with their stone age truck suspensions and subtle as a mallet engineering. I'm yet to see a big yank car that can do corners. Excuse my ignorance if I'm completely wrong! I don't consider them comparable to the Zed, which although certainly not a track car is pretty nimble for its size and weight GT status. That one you've bought James F looks pretty mental though, gonna be fun no doubt about that.

need to pull the engine out!!!
Some random useful points that may help: Number all your electrical plugs so you get them back in the right places. The Zed has more electrics than heathrow. You'll probably crack several of them whilst doing it as a few are hard to get to. The biggest problem is losing clips down the gaps in the plenum so be very careful of this. Leave the plenum on as its got lots of little hoses that will break. If you do want to remove it its worth doing the plenum bypass whilst you have the engine out as you can see where all the hoses come and go from. Plug up your turbo out/intake pipes with rags so you don't drop bolts into them whilst removing the engine (one is in the perfect place for it!) Don't forget to unplug the oil pressure connector on the bottom of the engine before lifting it. Its easy to forget after spending hours on the top ones. Its quite hard to get the turbos round the steering linkage when removing the engine. Needs a bit of creative lifting and twisting. Its VERY worthwhile replacing all the hoses that you can't normally get to whilst the engine is out. Chances are that you wil get leaks on the old one due to disturbing them. There are only a couple of odd shapes ones that you will need to buy OEM. The rest can be replaced with standard size hoses from motor-factors. Main ones are the turbo coolant hoses on particularly the battery side, one towards the top just below the plenum, and all the little plenum ones. Do any other jobs you've thought about doing at the same time. e.g. Pcv valves etc. It takes quite a while to get the engine out of a zed first time, probably a morning so start early :-) I got it down to a couple of hours with all the nightmares I had on my first Zed! If you can its worthwhile being able to have it out at a weekend and then spend the week buying all the new hoses and stuff before returning it the next weekend. That way you don't feel rushed to get it in without replacing the dodgy hoses that you'll almost definately need to do. One more thing: are you pulling the engine due to knackered turbo seals? Make sure you do a compression test first. I thought I had knackered turbo seals so pulled the engine and put new seals in. After getting the engine back it was still doing the same smoking, turned out to be two or three smashed pistons :-( so it had to come out again. Real novice mistake by me that, I let myself off as I am a novice!

poopras really that bad?!
Wow! Thats god-like!

White smoke from the back of engine
Also try checking the cam seals on the rear. They often go. It would be oily smoke if it was these but sometimes its hard to work out the colour. There's also the turbo coolant / engine coolant pipes around the rear and sides of the engine as Si mentioned.

Im the cat who got the cream
There's a guy on MRC running mega power on his Cosmo. I think its around 600ish. They are the mazda equivalent of the Zed. Very nice cars. When they came out they were the most technologically advanced car ever to be released I believe? If I saw one for that price in good nick I'd buy it now as well, have they got any more?!

Im the cat who got the cream
Wow, Cosmo's are awesome cars! I've got the 13b-re engine in my Rx7.

I'm a happy bunny!
