  1. Bmw's go on for ever. My BMW has 220,000 miles on the clock and engine is strong as ever. You'll have problems getting one for £500 though. I actually just sold mine on ebay for that as no-one else bid, but the guy hasn't come to pick it up so still got it. I bought a new shock but had a nightmare fitting it so decided to get something newer. No rust at all, E34 525i touter, m reg, no aircon. I don't think any of those cars would give you much back though as at £500 they are usually high milage or just old and rusty.
  2. I've got a carbon fibre spoiler from my rex for sale if you are interested. Not really my cup of tea. Very expensive new.
  3. I don't think whatever is underneath would look anything like this, looks like they've dressed a new chassis up in 350z clothing hence the funny roofline. I'll be interested to see what they have up their sleeve because even the 350Z is a bit of a porker (esp compared to the real Porkers!:)) so its about time nissan brought out a proper lightweight Zed car again like the original.
  4. Got this from here: http://news.windingroad.com/body-stylesmarket-segment/coupes/spied-nissans-new-affordable-sports-car/ Looks like something is well dressed up and disguised to look like a 350Z. Just days after word came that Nissan is working on a small coupe, a mysterious prototype has been spotted in and around the automaker’s facilities at the Nürburgring in Germany. While the body of the prototype above screams 350Z, look closely, and substantial alterations seem to support the notion that this is not a next-generation Zed car, but rather a new, smaller model, potentially with some cues lifted from its Urge concept of a couple years back. Check out the awkward roofline, which looks like it has been chopped to accommodate a clipped wheelbase. Our spies at KGP report that there are riveted sections in the mule’s roof, which lend a degree of credence to this assertion. Click on the high-resolution gallery, and it looks as if the doors may have had some work done to them as well (note the vertical tape lines). Given that engineers appear to be using a Porsche Cayman as a comparison benchmark, it’s either the case that this remains a new, smaller 350Z (the two models are Nissan’s closest natural competitors), or that the company is setting a seriously high bar for its budget performance car. We can only hope that their choice of a Boxster companion will mean that the new car will be rear-drive as well.
  5. What FunkySi is getting at is that you can't import a Zed under 10yrs old as a model report does not exist. The club has been debating whether to use club funds to get one (yes please!) but I don't know if that will happen?
  6. We've moved the St Ives to Lands end run to the evening after the dyno :) I was thinking (I do that sometimes) that Dartmoor is up the road, some excellent roads for those who don't want to come down to far SW :)
  7. Fine with me Jon :-) I'll change the first post yet again! :hyper:
  8. Good thread Dave, top work. The paint work looks in v good nick on the SWB?
  9. Bl*ody hell mate, thats good going. How are you managing that without removing the interior? I can't see where it would come from! Are you going for a full track car then? Removing sound deadening , seam welding and all the rest. Don't get me wrong with what I was saying earlier, I loved Boomins' car that I was bidding for on ebay, and I'd like to see more Zed track cars. I was just comparing it to show why not many people seem to do it. Have you got a thread up for it? would be a good one showing pictures of progress.

    Pmsl!! That made me chuckle
  11. Good links Dave, I'm going to sit back and watch the rest of those in a min. That Zed is very modified, the engine sounds completely different to normal. The response sounds amazing. Bubache, the reason I think the way I do is because I don't think its a good base for a track car compared to the other options. At the moment I have a high power Rx7 for track days, and a Zed for a daily drive. The Zed weighs 1585kg (quick google!) and the Rx7 weighs 1270kg (rsr edition), thats nearly a third of a tonne different. You'd have to have several hundred horse power more and torque to match the power to weight ratio and the brakes are working much harder to stop the car again. I used to always wonder why there was so few people doing hardcore sports driving in a Zed, and this is the reason. Same reason you don't see many Supras doing track events, although they've got a very strong straight six and a gearbox like a tractor so they can be modified to high bhp, although I don't see the point if you can't do much with it other than go in a straight line? I just think its horses for courses and why make things harder for yourself? Its a lot easier for yanks to play engines as everything is cheaper over there so they can do more. That Zed does look awesome in the vids though.
  12. It would take me about 2 seconds to decide which one! Just take a look at the reviews over the years. To big, heavy and duuuulllll. The AWD on the skyline is much better implemented, kind of like a rwd but with extra bells and whistles.
  13. I've always like this car. Has it had much done to the engine side of things? I can't say I like the wing, but I do like the look of the 3 spokes, they seem to suit it really well.

Can I have them back please? I want them on my new Zed :)
  15. Thats not too healthy mate  My new Zed starts as soon as the key is turned hot or cold. My last one that was heavily uprated took about a second. The one before that the same.
  16. Well I've just bought another Zed after going shopping for something sensible but nippy for a daily drive (well the Zed is nippy!). I was going to get another 5 series BMW but a newer than my old one but couldn't resist the Zed again :hyper: My Rx7 is way to extreme to drive every day to work so I need to run another car for a daily drive. For a Zed replacement perhaps the NSX, I've always liked them. I The only things I can think of that would replace the rex would be a Porker GT3 or something similar which are way way out of my budget for a (hopefully not so long!) little while yet. I guess alternatives that I've considered are more practical track cars such as a Caterham 7 or an Elise, but I find it hard to let go of the raw power plus the Rex is a nice medium between road car and track beast whereas the Cat 7 is pure track. I went out in an Elise at an airfield day and it was definately great fun chucking it around, not as much adrenelin as the Rex or Zed at very high speeds though. The way I look at it, for my budget the Zed is one of the best road cars, and the Rex is an awesome track/fast weekend beast so I'm pretty happy with my little collection. If I had the chance I'd prefer something newer than the Zed and the Rex is too loud at times!
  17. I'll get some pictures up eventually so you can see. Had a nice drive back tonight with my fresh clutch :-)
  18. Its amazing how much faster this car must be in the corners than the superbikes, it makes up so much ground everytime the bikes pull away on the straights. I'm not sure what time a zed posted but I think this is faster? it mentions that its the same time as the NSX and Corvette 10yrs back! Shows how much cars have improved.
  19. Hmm maybe I've got the wrong term, tweed? Its different to the stuff in my first 1990 import zed at any rate. Its all matching so looks original. The guy worked for a main stealers so it would account for it being so clean though! Did the UK ones all have leather or something?
  20. Chuffed, just got it back and alls well. New clutch, 12mths ticket, new brake pads all round, the stalling was just gunked up throttle bodies :hyper: I went in and asked them to sort out whatever they could find as I didn't want the stress of mucking around with it myself. I've got some rear suspension bushes that will take 20days from japan still to do before I can have the MOT paperwork, but otherwise the car is perfect. I was expecting to at least remove and clean the idle and aac solenoids but they took a look and cleaned the throttle bodies and everything seems great now. I was able to take a look at the underneath whilst it was on the ramp. Its not bad at all for a UK spec, it does have some rust and one spot thats had some minor welding but its looking pretty good under there for 14yrs. Next on the list will be some nice 18" alloys. The only upgrade I'd like to do is a bigger brake kit as I don't think much of stock Zed brakes. I'd also like a leather interior, although the existing cloth one is possibly the cleanest I've ever seen on a zed. The passenger side is practically show room condition, the drivers side likewise but it has a rip on the bolster. Nice to be back in Zed land :)
  21. Group bye Si! let me know if you are going to order and I may be up for doing it with you. Just got my Zed back and everything is pukka! the stalling now and again was just gunked up throttle bodies. I'm chuffed with my new Zed! The interior is immaculate but I'd like it to be leather.
  22. ^^ What he said. In all respect to Zeds but it wouldn't stand a chance. Zeds just are not track cars, they are GTs and thats what they are best at.
