Oil adapter plate problem
Thanks for the quick reply. Chris said he hasn't had any problems with any others. Gonna have to get back to him about it. Bit of a screw around as the car is in the garage now gotta pick it up half done and then take it in again when I get the next oil adapter. Cheers Dave

Oil adapter plate problem
Hi all, Got a problem and wondered if anyone had any ideas or have fitted one. I've got an ac autotechnic oil adapter plate from chrisgreddy. The cars gone into AP motors in plymouth to get fitted with oil temp and pressure gauges. They phoned earlier to let me know that the thread part of the plate def wont fit into the engine, its too shallow. They tried it on a skyline and it fitted (although was too long). Chris has not had problems with them not fitting before. I've ordered a greddy one but they wont be in till next week. Hopefully that'll fit but I can't understand why this one wont. The garage are a performance jap specialist so not just back road grease monkeys. Any ideas appreciated. Dave

Those grey import square plates with the tall slim lettering...
While we are on the subject, does anyone know the actual law on mini (or none for that matter) number plates on the front? I've heard (but didnt believe) that early imports didn't require them?

Petrol
I dont put anything other than optimax in. My foots too heavy to risk it. I'd imagine that over time you'd get wear in the engine even if you don't hear det. I dont think your zed will like it unless you get it specifically mapped to run on lower octane fuel like Andys. I guess that if you are running very good cooling equipment such as decent intercoolers and the like then you'd be able to avoid det more. By the way whats the score with the engine phot on your ride profile? Dave

To buy or not to buy
Whoops ,sorry didn't mean it to sound like that! looking at it now it sounds very short and negative . Strongly advise trying to get one off here though JR as they've been loved then. Best thing I ever did was buy a Zed. First one I bought privately and had a nightmare. I've now got one off of a forum member and its absolutely prestine, great to drive, feels like a car worth 10 or twenty times the value. Once you get one you wont be able to go back to a normal car. See! that sounds better! look: ohhhhhh ahhhhhh   ps I feel silly now pps red ones go faster, I know I had a black one!

Does This Sound Right
You can check if the valves are blocked by pulling the pipe off when the car is idling and putting your finger over the valve end, you should feel a bit of a vacuum sucking on your finger. If its blocked you wont feel it. The springs usually go on them too. So if the valves havn't been replaced they probably will need it. Dave

Knock or detonation sensor
The sensor is down between the V of the engine. Nightmare to get to the actual sensor as you have to take the whole top off eg all pipes ,plenum, fuel rail (if i remember right), etc. The wire from it comes out the back near the egr area and plugs into the main loom there (same part of the loom that the coils plug into). Can't see what its got to do with ascd fuse though. The cruise control has been taken out of my car, along with the aircon, and other bits. Runs absolutely sweet. Lots less to go wrong. Dave

Turbo failure?????????
Still think there must be something else. Usually if the turbos are physically knackered then there would be physical symptoms eg smoke if the seals have gone, or maybe noise/vibration if blades are broke. This just sounds like they are not spooling up for some reason. Doesnt sound like there is a vacuum leak though as the engine is actually creating a vacuum ie -1 in the manifold. What about throttle position sensor on passenger side, front of plenum. Does it make full revs?

grounding kit
You dont have to spend money on it. You can do it yourself for a few quid using thick gauge audio wire (halfrauds ,maplin, etc) Just attatch from the negative battery terminal to various parts of the engine bay and chassis. Theres faq destructions on it somewhere. Helps the grounding of the electrical circuits as many sensors etc dont have their own ground wires, they just use the engine/chassis where they are screwed in.

To buy or not to buy
edit:- What I mean is buy one off someone on here who is an enthusiast and loves the car. That way its had what it needs done. If you get one off a random person on ebay (dont!) you can have a nightmare. If you get one off here you'll have the best drive of your life and hopefully will only need ot do maintainance type work that you can do yourself. Theres so much knowledge on the forums that you can always find the answer. Dave
