Maintainance costs (subjective to the way you drive I suppose): Tyres:- at least £100 a tyre, more like £150 if you've got any sense and buy some good ones. Fuel:- Mine does 4-5 miles per pound spent (mainly motorway), this goes down rapidly if driving around town Brake pads:- £60-£120ish Don't be put off by rebuilt/modded engines, as its probably better than a stock one thats 13yrs old (in my opinion). Watch for all the usual turbocharged car problems, smoke on opening up the throttle, etc. Wiring looms get cooked (thus good to have rebuilt one again). Imported are usually in better nick as they don't have salt on the roads, Uk are more likely to be rusty. Most people think its worth holding out for a manual (I personally think they are much, much better). You can convert them though (about the same price as reconditioning a broken auto gearbox), you have to find a donar car though which can be difficult. Spend a little more to get a good one as cheap ones are cheap for a reason, especially on ebay (don't go there!). Try to buy off here so you can look at the history and its more likely the car has been loved and looked after. Above all remember that once you find a good one it'll be more than worth it. The cars are AWESOME!! Dave
  4. Worth doing to get your car running well. As above Thor are very good and Mr Dixon is also a Guru!. Dave
  5. You'll know if it goes because your toes will be even colder than mine are (without one cause its not worth the hassle of fitting a new one). Dave
  6. Like Greg said. I think the 99spec fronts look the best (I would mind). The polyurethane is great too, will save you in the event of a light knock. Dave
  7. Definately turtles for me. Although jam is good on porridge. ps. Congrats Pk!
  8. I think there are a few of those figures about the place Andy!
  9. Thanks for the kind words everyone, much appreciated. I was jumping up and down last night once I got the call and had to tell everyone! It looks like the transition has gone quite smoothly for me too now, with the help of another ex marine who recommended me and got me into the interview. I think I was getting myself worked up more than I needed to. It hasn't really sunk in yet that I've left. I've only done just under 7yrs, so no where near as big a change as you Sgt C and Apache and other long term guys. Because I work in computer networking I was having to make the military IT stuff relevent to civvy street, which was quite hard as the military uses different kit to what civvy people are looking for experience in. In the end I benefitted from having a technical questions type interview because they were able to ascertain what I knew and so were not bothered by the lack of actual experience in some areas. Right, just need to find somewhere in Kent to live now......doh! Dave
  10. Well said, I agree with you mate. Good call to all the people who have done and suggested this. The old boys really appreciate it when people remember and have respect for them and their fallen friends. Dave --- edit! Nearly posted that in the 2 mins silence! my clocks are five minutes ahead of the forum!! Respect to all those good people -----
  11. The job is in Kent!!! Lol! havn't had a chance to get on much so don't know about Haynes, will have a look. I guess I'll soon be a South East member! mind you I'll still be around the Southwest for the surf when possible. It will probably be cheaper to go to France though.
  12. Chuffed to bits, I had an interview the other week and have just been offered a job, so I'm almost officially a Strawberry Mivi (Civvy). Its exactly the job I wanted and should be a great springboard career wise. Its not very nice dealing with the transition from the military to civvy street so I'm really happy all the work studying this year for my Cisco qualifications has paid off. I'm off to Cornwall for a month to carry on with my and to surf everyday, staying in a B&B courtesy of the military resettlement people! Thanks very much to the queen! I'm not online much at the moment until I get back down to Plymouth tomorrow, and then Cornwall so excuse me if I don't answer back. I just wanted to tell everyone cause I'm so chuffed! Dave
  13. How about a calender with just the members in? Lol! ah well thought not!
  14. Lol. Glad he's got money to go private and not wasting NHS resources with his self pickled body.
  15. Driving my Zed a couple of hundred miles and hoping the hangover doesn't kick in at the same time (sure I should have one but it hasn't appeared, not that I'm complaining, but I was drinking spirits all night and its a bit weird!)
  16. Woooah! Think that nearly got out of control!
  17. Ha, I just found this thread again. I hardly even remember writing it last night! think I passed out soon after. Went to Teasers in Plymouth. Bloody gorgeous women, I've always avoided strip clubs as they just seem a waste of money. I must admit though I'd rather spend a fiver to drink in there with the ladies than a smokey plymouth pub. Seems almost innocent as well in a seedy kind of way as you can't touch. The missus wouldn't agree with me but I reckon its safer than getting mauled by a bunch of Plymouth Marines groupies in a club. Appollo: the sig pic is from when I was in Fuertaventura a year or so ago. Very nice waves, very hard reef to bounce my body off of!
  18. Don't have that problem, my Zed goes out in all weathers! usually about 200miles as well. Wish I had a garage though. Maybe soon.
  19. link doesn't work for me mate. Dave
  20. Just come back form my leaving run in the Marines. Got treated to a two's up dance at the strip club club in Plymouth by the lads ooo-er missus only lasted five minutes but still enjoyed it but wouldn't pay my self. :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: Went to a rock club and moshed for the rest of the night. Drunk my mates home made Sloe Gin all night. F*ckin wasted now. Night!!
  21. Does anyone know if you can save the streamed video files on things such as putfile? maybe a temporary buffered file or something. I just found a nice one of Heidi klum in nothing but body paint! Dave http://media.putfile.com/Heidi-Klum-Covered-in-Body-Paint

I can relate to you mate, I've been up to my eyeballs in job hunting for the last month. Its such a stressful time. I couldn't sit still or even think straight after the first interview for days until I got some feedback (didn't get it). The last one went well and they say it's looking promising for me, they are sorting out an offer. Touch wood it'll go as planned, I really don't want to be looking for any longer, the transition from the military to civvy street is a bloody nightmare. I don't have any bad experiences as I havn't had an interview in years. I did have a dodgy one when I went to join the Marines. It was a flash in the pan decision and I asked if I could speak to someone about joining as an officer and try for sponsorship at university. It ended up being a full blown interview with some Navy officer when I just wanted a chat. It went very badly and was told I didn't have a hope in hell of sponsorship as they only do 1 person a year and I'd only decided to join the week before! I ended up joining as a Marine instead and binning university altogether! I hope it goes well for you mate. Dave
  23. I bet he didn't have to spend anywhere near as much as Mac, being in America and all that. Lovely car.
  24. Good luck to you both! I'm sure it'll go great once you are there.
  25. :hyper: :hyper: :x: ;)
