Does the Bolney meet still take place each year ? Also are there any meets for places like Box Hill or Brighton perhaps ?
  5. That's great thanks :-) Damm I miss that car !! lol
  6. Hey Dave Do you still have my old car ? If so how is it ? Any pics ? (I'm feeling a little sentimental !) Mark
  7. "...there it is in black and white from DVLA, officer" Was always going to be my exact words !!! :cool3:
  8. Hi Rich My printout pre-dated that legislation (I bought my first Z in 1999) - possibly the legislation that this piece is amending maybe ? I've had a trawl but cant find it but equally I may have been clinging to a tenuous thread of hope that the police wouldn't question it :-) Mark
  9. There is a piece of legislation somewhere that says you may display a plate the same size as that which would have been displayed in the country of origin if your car is an import. I'm afraid I cant remember where I found it but I used to carry a printout of it in case I ever needed to justify my plate size. It's one thing trying to argue with them verbally but if you were to produce documents showing you can have what you have (because frankly they have no idea what a Japanese car would roll around wearing) they may well back off and recommend you get a UK sized plate. I did get stopped - and fined - for having blue LED fixings on my rear number plate !! They said I could be mistaken for a police vehicle !
  10. If I stay auto then I'll rebuild the box (Jeff at Zedworld kindly pointed me in the direction of the right kit to get) and get an ESS Racing SAW kit but thanks for the offer :-)
  11. Thanks for the link Rich. Much appreciated. Mark
  12. My autobox is not quite what I think it should be. I have gone down the auto-to-manual route once before and am considering doing it again. The question is..... Would it be difficult/expensive to drop in a 350z box ? They're 6 speed and designed to handle about the same power and my old 350z had a lovely change - short and positive. I'm guessing that at the least it would require an adaptor plate but I wouldn't have thought that was too onerous ? Actually taking it a step further - would an engine/gearbox swap work ? Has anyone done this ? Any thoughts ? Mark
  13. The found my local ice cream guy dead !!!!! Covered in hundreds and thousands !!! The police said he topped himself !!!!
  14. Hi Jeff I will be getting in touch soon for a service etc - can you do the oil change as part of that exercise ?
  15. Hi guys Can someone advise where the 'filler' is on an auto box ? My gearbox isn't picking up well or changing particularly smoothly so I think the first job is an oil change. I'm guessing the drain plug is fairly obvious once I'm under the car ? Thanks Mark
  16. Could have been me but to my knowledge there are FIVE white Zed's within a mile of me !!!
  17. That's good news as one of mine has rusted to sh*t and rattles like mad !!!
  18. Can the heatshield be safely removed without risking setting the car on fire when I drive it ? Mark
  19. Bugger !!! Ok thanks - will have to have a re-think !
  20. Hi Guys Am I right in thinking that the auto shifter isn't actually connected to the gearbox in any way ? Been looking at the ESS Racing SAW product again and was wondering if I could dispense with the shifter and replace it with a simple switched arrangement for selecting 'D' or 'P' which seem to be the two required settings for the SAW to operate. CHeers Mark
  21. I dont work in the insurance industry but my guess is that the explosion of legal firms claiming for injury compensation payouts of frankly stupid amounts of money PLUS their exhorbitant fees on top coupled with the lack of fight in the insurer being claimed against is the main reason behind the ridiculous rises in premiums. Actually it really f*cks me off that someone will claim for a bruised hip or whiplash or something and ask for £15k or whatever and they just pay up !! All because it's easier than fighting the claim cos there's a lawyer involved and their own lawyer will just advise them to settle because the legal fees will be more than the claim ! Just think how many premiums that eats up !!! Why dont they fight these claims and demand that someone clearly quantify the amount claimed ? Or just make the policy an insurance against vehicular damage ? In the past NOBODY claimed personal injury unless it was serious !!! In addition because of these rises more and more people are not insuring and taking the chance that they will not get caught and that even if they do then the fine is less than the premium ! All insurers have to pay into a scheme to cover claims against un-insured drivers so again your premiums rise - you are effectively paying for others not to insure their cars !! Mark
  22. Hi everyone There is a heat shield of some sort on the exhaust between the down-pipe and the cat on both sides that appears to be bolted/clamped in place. Do I HAVE to have these in place ? Mine are rusted and because I live in a suburb controlled by the road-na*is there are speed humps everywhere and I think they've just helped the shields to give up the ghost ! And advice ? My car is a 1995 import. Do I HAVE to have cats in the exhaust system or could I replace them with new cat-less pipes ? Thanks Mark
  23. Only alloys but came on the car. I've done nothing to it. It's an interesting question - when does a classic lose it's classic status through mods ?
