  1. My car was SORN'd for quite a few years and I insured it through Lynbrook (Classic specialists) and the premium was something like £25. I can't find the old Policy Documents but I think it covered Fire & Theft. I believe you HAVE to insure it when it's SORN'd. Now it's back being driven again the Fully Comp premium is £265.
  2. What a great event ! Some amazing cars there......and some quite nice models from other manufacturers too :-) Despite only 9 or 10 (?) 300ZXs I think our marque can hold it's head high ! Was great to meet everyone...and really nice to follow and listen to Howard's car especially on the overrun under a motorway flyover ! Will definitely be back next year !
  3. MOT this morning. Passed with flying colours ! The guy said the underneath was like a new car which is entirely testament to Jimmer and the guy that replaced all the rotten arches and inner and outer sills. Very happy and looking forward to Beaulieu with renewed enthusiasm :-)
  4. Ticket purchased ! See you at Fleet !
  5. I went on one of these about 15+ years ago...there was about 25 cars I kid you not !! - - - Updated - - - Oops....I was referring to the Boxhill to Brighton run...…..
  6. Just back from an amazing day at Goodwood ! It’s a truly fantastic day out with something for everyone whatever you’re in to. I parked in general parking in my 300 ( hadn’t realised there was ‘performance parking’ or I’d have been in there) right next to a gorgeous ‘S’ plate Supra. There was every kind of car imaginable but sadly I never spotted another 300......did anyone else go in theirs ? Highlights included Daniel Ricardo doing the most amazing doughnuts in a late model Renault F1 car and also coming face to face with a Ferrari 250GTO ! Apparently it sold in 2012 for $35m and some were estimating it at $50m+ now. It was just sitting there no security or cordon.....amazing !! My son commented that in reality there were thousands of security people there as every one of us would have jumped in if someone tried to damage it - but of course everyone there was absolutely made up just to see it. And kudos to the owner for bringing it ! If anyone is considering it for next year I can wholeheartedly say DO IT !
  7. Thanks for the tip Ian much appreciated.
  8. Thanks Gaz I’ll have a word with my local motor parts factor.....it’s one of those places that is like Aladdin’s Cave and if you ask them for anything the first response is ‘no’ !
  9. My brakes squeak something rotten ! Can anyone recommend a fix ? My front calipers are off an R33 GTS so if I need new pads can anyone recommend a good set ? I am old and drive like it so no need for anything leaning toward 'track'. Thanks Mark

  11. I had a mid-level rear spoiler on my old Z and I thought it looked the bees knees.......BUT it ruins the rear view from inside the cabin ! Lambo headlights and a Lambo rear view !!
  12. A visit to that collection alone would be worth the trip to SA ! Awesome !
  13. I was 'down the road' from Brunei in November on a trip to Myanmar and was sorely tempted to visit. Sadly apparently you CAN'T just rock up to his garages and have a wander round !!
  14. Apologies if this is a repeat...… I was perusing the Sultans car collection and wondered if his hoard of 300ZX's were anything special ? Can anyone tell from these numbers ? NIS 300ZX BM7890 HZ32000178 NIS 300ZX KE8888 GCF32516695 NIS 300ZX BF5555 H231300003 NIS 300ZX KE9999 GCF3516782 NIS 300ZX KE8575 JN10RGZ32U0001939 NIS 300ZX BM700 HZ32-000085 NIS 300ZX KC1953 JN10RGZ32U0002036
  15. I track-day'd my previous 300zx at Brands Hatch. These cars are EPIC on a circuit !!! Mind you....cresting Paddock Hill Bend at an insane speed, dropping off the face of the earth into the hollow, go for a gear and snap the bolt holding the gear lever to the shaft......now that'll focus the mind !!! What amazed me is just how incredibly capable and balanced these cars are.....beyond my skills for sure !! Kind of a shame the current car is an auto :-(
  16. Hi Jeff Just thought I’d follow up on this....... Long drive up to Jim’s today. 1000rpm = 27mph. It’s a bit lower than I’d like. Still hope to explore alternative diff ratios.....depending on cost of course !
  17. Had to drive out to a timber yard in the Sussex countryside yesterday. It was a beautiful day for a drive regardless but the attention the car received was ridiculous ! To cap it off on the way home on the A3 I was being overtaken by a van but it seemed to be taking a bit too long to go past......looked over my shoulder to see the driver VIDEOING me on his phone !! Thumbs up and past he went :-) I was half expecting an entry in the WAS IT YOU forum today.
  18. When I imported my car back in 2009 I contacted Nissan in Japan asking for confirmation of build date and they could only give me Month and Year. Having said that, they were so happy to hear from a 300zx owner (since 1998) which made the interaction nice and certainly cemented my affection for both Nissan and Japan.
  19. They look really sharp ! I am a big fan of staggered rims.
  20. Great morning ! 1st car in the paddock enclosure ! The Brooklands staff didn't bat an eyelid and directed me straight in ! Very happy to be sat amongst all sorts of great machinery. The only other Nissan there was a LHD 240Z in a baby blue colour - immaculate !
  21. Thanks for the feedback guys ! Joel that’s a very shrewd observation......I’m sure you’re exactly right ! Let’s see how we get on......
  22. Hopefully the weather will be ok.......and hopefully they’ll let me in with my car. Rules are any model of a car that entered production in 1988 or earlier.....can I argue that the Z32 was available in Japan in 1988 ? I’ll try anyway ! I’ll be in tandem with a DB6 so fingers crossed ! https://www.brooklandsmuseum.com/whats-on/winter-classic-breakfast
  23. OK before I ask the question...…..I'm never going to sell my car, its an automatic, I never race it or traffic light drag it, its a cruiser, a GT, I love it for it's style, its rarity, the laid-back driving position and lots of other reasons :-) It's market value to me is meaningless (much like a friends DB6 that he says he will be buried in !!) and truth-be-told few of our cars are truly OEM. I've thought about the possibility of changing to a different auto gearbox but got slapped down :-) So.…I'm wondering about changing the diff ratio to give it longer legs. It's 3.6....something at the moment. The other family car - a BMW 1 Series - is also an automatic with a 2.47 diff ratio and as a consequence is MUCH longer legged than the 300ZX. It's a diesel so quite torquey but I'd be amazed if it was more so than the TT. So what I'm looking for is a table if one exists, or a formula that I can adopt and adapt that will give me rpm-v-mph for different diff ratios ? There's a specialist engineering firm near me that will fabricate different ratios for almost any car and I need an idea of what to ask for. I'm thinking about something roughly halfway at 3.00ish. Other than giving it longer legs is this likely to create problems elsewhere under the laws of unintended consequences ? I realise that the speedo would need to be recalibrated to account for the change. Thanks for any input I can get.
  24. Thanks Richard that's very much appreciated.
  25. Having just spent a King's ransom on my car over the last year I'm damned if I'm going to let something as trivial as winter stop me from enjoying Nissan's finest !! That and the fact that my Mrs said if i wasn't going to actually drive it then what the hell was the point and I could forget about using her car now mine is sorted !!! However something that is cramping my pleasure is the legendary appalling headlights !! I'd be grateful to get any recommendations on the best bulbs I can use. It's a '95 TT JDM. Dipped beam, high beam etc please. I'm hoping that the latest possibilities available are a considerable improvement. Much appreciated guys. Just out if interest has anyone got '99/'2000 spec factory headlights fitted ? What are they like ?
