Markyb300 Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 My autobox is not quite what I think it should be. I have gone down the auto-to-manual route once before and am considering doing it again. The question is..... Would it be difficult/expensive to drop in a 350z box ? They're 6 speed and designed to handle about the same power and my old 350z had a lovely change - short and positive. I'm guessing that at the least it would require an adaptor plate but I wouldn't have thought that was too onerous ? Actually taking it a step further - would an engine/gearbox swap work ? Has anyone done this ? Any thoughts ? Mark Quote
Rich666 Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 It has been done, but the general concensus is it;s not worth it... http://www.twinturbo.net/net/viewmsg.aspx?forum=general&msg_id=1393957 Quote

leo-r32gts Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 I think if you're doing an auto to manual change then it makes just as much sense to stick a six speed in as it does a 5 speed. Thing is though, the N/A 350z doesn't have anything like the torque produced by the VG TT. If you're running a N/A, then that extra cog inbetween 1st and fifth should really help. In a TT I think an extra cog would get in the way of power. If the 6th gear actually went further than 5th did, you could use it like an overdrive to boost cruising economy. I've never really thought that my car was too long geared, but I've also not driven a TT with a N/A diff to compare.. I've heard of a few 6 speed conversions - whats the most common 'box to use? And how does it affect the ratios? Quote
JaiKai Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 I've an autobox up for sale shortly out my series 4 TT. Quote
Markyb300 Posted May 25, 2011 Author Posted May 25, 2011 If I stay auto then I'll rebuild the box (Jeff at Zedworld kindly pointed me in the direction of the right kit to get) and get an ESS Racing SAW kit but thanks for the offer :-) Quote
