  1. Every now and again, my starter motor will "grind" when I turn the key, instead of actually turning. There doesn't appear to be any particular pattern to it happening either. I think I remember reading somewhere that there's a relay for the starter circuit somewhere - do people think that could be at fault, or the starter itself on it's way out? Is this a known issue at all...?
  2. You people are just weird....
  3. I took the dogs for a good long walk around the village yesterday afternoon as we all needed to stretch our legs, and I was quite surprised to discover that I am not alone... Whilst on our travels, I came across (not literally, I might add! ) a silver 350Z about half a mile away, a ginger 350Z Roadster a little further along and, very surprisingly, a Z31 300ZX less than 5 minutes from my front door! Four different Z cars (including mine) within a 3 mile radius of each other! I don't think that's bad going for a sleepy little village like mine. I may give the Z31 owner a knock to see if I can have a nose around it. Not sure if it's on the road or a project... doesn't look great but, then again, doesn't look bad per se. Just thought I'd share that fairly useless bit of information with you all! :thumbup1:
  4. Done and done! :thumbup1: Cheers!
  5. Downstairs, having a break - been working since 6am!
  6. I keep umm'ing and ahh'ing about fitting the NA rear to mine... on paper, it sounds like a good idea: faster acceleration, less weight. :) Like Gaz, I keep coming back to the idea of keeping "standard parts" on mine though. My car's no slouch as it is and, as I'll shortly be going to a one-piece prop, I can't really be doing with the hassle of having to find a SWB NA one afterwards. I'll probably continue to umm and ahh about it, but I reckon I'll always come back to keeping the setup I have at the moment. Especially as the Hicas arms and balljoints are getting renewed in a few weeks. PS: sorry to hear about your sudden money woes, Richie! :(
  7. Pffft! Like you'll ever make the journey across to mine..... :tongue_smilie:
  8. Oh, I will... don't you worry.... ;)
  9. It'll all be ready and waiting for you :thumbup1:
  10. I feel like I should add something to this thread. In 7 days (minus a couple of hours), Lee will be here to collect his newly-trimmed front and rear seats :) "Why haven't we seen any pictures??" I hear nobody asking (yet!)... well, let's just say I'm working very hard right now, but they're starting to look a bit on the nice side...! :thumbup1:
  11. I wanted one of these cars for years and, when it came time to scratch that itch, there were a few factors I had to consider: Cost, first and foremost. I knew I wouldn't be able to afford a pristine example, but hoped I'd be able to source a good, solid car for the budget I had at the time. As my budget increased last year and I decided that I needed to find myself a SWB, there were very few for sale (which ties into my next two factors). Exclusivity. Even now, I very rarely see another one on the roads with me! People will do double-takes when mine's out and about and I've had plenty of people either ask me what it is or tell me that it's great to see such a nice example nowadays. Added into that, I guess, is the fact that SWBs will be an even rarer sight in the UK. Availability. There were loads on eBay when I bought my first one over 2 years ago and all in varying states and stages of modification. I opted for the most standard-looking I could find within my budget. Prior to that, I was considering buying one from Baz - a white LWB - but even on getting the first batch of pictures, I was saying to Fran that I'd have to change the front bumper back to a stock one and lose the big spoiler! As has already been said, there are far fewer advertised for sale now than 2 years ago and the majority of those are relatively stock-looking. In a sense, it's a good time to be in the market for one as most of the lemons appear to have disappeared, leaving only good cars for the main part. Prices are higher, but that's presumably because people know they have a good solid car to sell and price accordingly. I have no plans to part with mine - for a start, I've spent too much time and money on her! Plus every single time I look at her or take her out, I smile :) That's the mark of a "good car" for me: whether it makes you smile, no matter how long you've owned it for. We've been to a couple of local shows and she's had a massive amount of attention there. It probably helps that I'm the only Z32 there! But even at a proper "classic car" show a few months back (and sadly pre-respray or interior), people were crowding and saying how surprised they were to see one there and how nice it looked, even amongst a sea of bona-fide classics! :thumbup1:
  12. You going shopping, Gaz...?
  13. You've just missed Josh Lake selling a complete set of the roof and windscreen trims!
  14. Champion. Looks like I've found a use for her at long last!
  15. We're planning on heading to the continent later this month, including France - am I going to need one of these contraptions...??
  16. You're not very far from me or Harby300, although I'm not sure how proficient we would be in installing new turbos! There's a mobile mechanic in Middlesbrough who I trust implicitly - I can pass you his number if you want? He's worked on my Zed and, whilst he's by no means a Z32 "specialist", we certainly knows his apples and I trust him completely. :)
  17. I'll be adding some nice updates in here very shortly... :thumbup1:
  18. I have a chrome bonnet lifter that I bought off CeeJay ages ago that I won't use. This is brand new and never been fitted. Sadly, the fitting kit has got lost somewhere so this is only the strut itself that is available. CeeJay might be able to supply the relevant fittings to go with it... Looking for £15 delivered to your door :)
  19. Capital do indeed have the upper foams listed, but it turns out that both are for the Speed seats. The original SRs have "spikier" shoulder sections (your seats, basically) and Capital can't supply those any more. The only way round it is to buy the upper foam from them and cut off the bottom parts - as they're identical between Speed and SR seats, they can be used to replace your knackered upper bolsters. As for your lower bolsters: Linky! I'd need to see some better pictures of your seats to be able to tell you which material they're trimmed in and whether it's still available or not...
  20. The only real snag with that is that I don't charge anything for fitting new covers or trim. I undoubtedly should do, but I don't. Nor do I charge for removing or refitting anything to a car if it's left here for me to work on - everything's included in the price of the retrim. I charge for the materials involved and the labour involved in making the new items, but if I broke that charge down into an hourly rate then I'm earning considerably less than the NMW!!
  21. The upper foam for those seats is no longer available from Recaro anywhere in the world. The material for the outer sections should be though. The new upper foam sections from the "Speed" seats can be adapted to fit the "SR" seats though (which is what you have) :thumbup1:
  22. Agreed wholeheartedly!!
  23. Sounds like a ridiculous idea, frankly...!
  24. Why would you think they were wrong, Lee? They fit the rim nicely :)
  25. There was no white smoke.... just a few jets of flame! :saddam:
