It's honestly given me ideas here.....

Honestly, I just find this stitching an absolute work of art! Don't think it'd really work in a Zed though....

I look forward to receiving it, Pete :thumbup1: Your only really viable option (in my eyes, at least) would be to source a pair of electric Recaro seats as it's then simply a matter of making the OEM controls work with Recaro's loom. But you'd probably just use the Recaro controls anyway. As I said, electric runners isn't too much of a headache, but I honestly can't imagine a straightforward or, perhaps more importantly, an aesthetically pleasing way to graft the Nissan upright motor to a Recaro Speed seat. Bin the electrics, source a pair of Z32 Recaro frames and job's done. Honestly, how often do you actually adjust your seats anyway...? :)

Nope. Because the Speeds recline using a knob that is attached to one end of a metal bar that runs between both sides of the backrest. The motor would have to attach to that somehow. Also the Recaro shell is incredibly shallow - it wouldn't be able to physically accomodate the motor without significant changes to it's structure and, because of that, it's look. The OEM Zed seat has a cavity at the rear which houses the motor and associated wiring loom. There'd need to be a similar cavity within the Recaro seat. But the Recaro upright shell is nothing more than a piece of pressed steel with no provision whatsoever to house motors or anything. There'd need to be an "extension" for want of a better word attached to the back of the seat shell, which would completely alter the look and shape of the seat. Sorry!

Speeds are much easier to retrim than OEM Zed seats, Pete. I'd happily retrim Recaro seats all day every day as they're such a well-made seat. Add to that the fact that replacement foam is readily available and it's super-easy to get an absolutely mint pair of seats :) Unlike our next caller..... Hypothetically speaking: lots of hard work! And even then, it wouldn't be exactly as you want it... The best I think you could hope for would be to have electric movement (forwards and backwards) for the seat base. Nissan's motors wouldn't be easily compatible with the Recaro backrest adjustment, if at all, so you'd still have to rely on the manual wheel for that. The raising and lowering function should still work on the driver's base but I'd expect the hybrid seat to sit a few inches higher than it normally would afterwards due to the dimensions of the Nissan rail and motor assembly. Best person to speak to is Gibster TT as, if memory serves, his Corbeau recliners have had the Nissan electric rails fitted to them.

God, no!! The red that's in there now will continue to be as much red as there'll ever be. The dash and whathaveyou will, eventually, be trimmed in the same charcoal grey as the steering wheel. Eventually.....

It won't be massively different to how it is now - there won't be any diamonds or anything like that! More just a perfecting of the overall design. :) I still want to keep it subtle inside (well, as subtle as a dark red interior can be!) but still be enough to make people want to look twice when they see it up close :thumbup1: This, of course, will mean that my current seat covers will end up for sale, so for anyone with Recaro Speed seats who fancies some nice leather and Alcantara covers.... ;)

Not an update as such, but I've just been informed that one of my suppliers has been able to lay his hands on another hide of Andrew Muirhead leather the exact code and shade as the stuff that I've used already! :hyper: That means that I can now easily go ahead with my planned interior revamp over the winter. And yes, I'm aware that the current trim hasn't been in for very long at all...

Hello from The Netherlands!
On the back of the wheel, on the bottom spoke, there is a hole - poke a cross-head screwdriver through that hole and remove the screw. The cover then simply pulls off and you disconnect the wires for the horn and the cruise control once the centre is free of the wheel assembly :thumbup1:

This one wasn't advertised as a Nismo one, by any chance...?

Spectre's Zed would be a good buy for someone - he's put a lot of time and work into that car since buying it last year.

Restoration (nearly) finished
No skirts, no spoiler. It looks superb as it is and doesn't need anything externally to finish it off :thumbup1:

Brake upgrade
Seeing as how, for peace of mind, the calipers would no doubt benefit from new seals and suchlike, I agree that it's a fair expenditure. 350Z Brembo front discs, adaptor brackets for the Z32 caliper and job's jobbed (like mine). :) Do my calipers have "Brembo" printed on them? No. Does my car stop better than it did before regardless? Oh yes.... :thumbup1:

The Great Japanese Interior Re-trim
Yeah, UK Hide sell the genuine stuff. Seems like they've lowered their prices since I last had any off them too - think I paid £135 per metre about 3 years ago!

The Great Japanese Interior Re-trim
I hope it's genuine Alcantara as it'll fade quickly in the sunlight if not...! You'll know if it's genuine as you'll have paid upwards of £90 per metre for it. And there's a trick to making the pleats "pop" and it doesn't involve more foam. But I'll leave you to figure that one out for yourself... ;) Those little add-ons at the sides of the very front of the centre? I find it much easier to sew them onto the centre section first, then sew the bolster covers on. You're making good progress here. You should be very proud of yourself :thumbup1:

Anyone tried led headlight bulbs on The Z?
As far as I'm aware, LED headlights require a totally different lens and reflector system to allow the light to spread and focus correctly. A flip of the problem when using HIDs in old reflector headlights. That causes glare and poor spread, whereas LED bulbs will just cause poor illumination without the correct reflectors.

I wish I'd known that - I'd have asked to jump in on your order as that emblem is the only I want (can afford) at the moment.

I believe it's what AndrewG has on his steering wheel, Rich :)

In my opinion, the untrimmed centre would look a little out of place with the rest of the wheel spruced up. Plus it helps to distinguish my wheel(s) from stock ones or ones retrimmed elsewhere :) A red badge would be nice, but not a priority at the moment.

See, I really like the standard wheel - It could maybe be slightly smaller, but I think it's a really nice looking wheel. Even better now, of course... ;)

Well, I know it didn't happen in time for JAE and that show season is now all but behind us, but... I finally got around to doing my own steering wheel today!! As per usual, the rim's been thickened up somewhat during the retrimming process. The whole wheel looks and feels sooo much better and isn't spoiling the overall look of the cabin any more. Just wish I'd had chance to do it earlier this year!

uk zed speedo reading
Rear demister light will be because you've changed the LED for a white one, no doubt. You need to change the resistor as well, as the standard resistor drops the output to almost nothing.
