Power zed
PowerZed is the ONLY place to take your Zed to in the UK. I’ve seen people from Europe take their cars to him. All of the owners who have had their cars for well over a decade and the top cars in this forum are maintained and built by them, so rest assured you are in good hands. He’s also super friendly to boot. Book your car in and you will not regret it. Cars that go to the other so called specialists that are not endorsed by this club end up with nightmare problems and a lot of money wasted.

Haha I thought there was no chance they'd fit, so was over the moon when they did. Thanks again for pulling the long shifts and turning it all around in the few days you had, especially with the unexpected parts issues!!

Very useful info here, thanks for this. I mistakenly wrote ET25's for the rear - I actually have ET35's and also handily have some of those crap 5mm slip on spacers the last owner had in his spare parts box, so will test fit with that and see how it looks. That'll make it ET30, which may avoid the need for the arch rolling drama you've had to deal with. Fingers crossed it looks decent. Tyres I forgot to mention - I have 245's front and 275's rear.

Interesting, thanks for the informative response as always Andrew. I expected it to rub on full lock as well but it doesn't which was surprising - only on bad speed bumps so not overly concerned for the time being. I will have to look up how to set up the rear now as I will probably get wider rear wheels to even it out. Currently 18x8.5 ET25 (+10 spacer so ET15) fronts and 18x9.5 ET25 rears. I've seen people run really wide wheels on the rears, but don't really want to rub the metal rear arches and ruin paint etc. The plastic front arch liners being scraped I can stomach, but not metal!

Thanks Gaz, first time I’ve had a car this low! Half expected it to happen though so all good. What offset are your wheels then? Yours certainly do fill the arches very nicely indeed.

These photos show off the stance a little better ?. The rears are looking a little skinny now in comparison, so may have to get wider ones soon. Good thing JR’s are cheap and relatively easy to get ahold of.

The next step is the Link G4X ECU in late August, which should resolve the intermittent running issues, and I will then have a perfect running Zed hoorah! Hopefully some extra HP to boot too! Updates will follow once the new ECU is in ?.

I picked her up July 1st with the new brakes, replacement RPS clutch and rebuilt SZ flywheel. The alignment, although done by the local tyre shop who are supposedly decent, Jim found to be way off and aligned it all properly. Now all sorted and driving like a dream. Everything’s now coming together very well. With the 10mm spacers on the front now effectively making them ET15’s, the stance is super aggressive. I do now get the occasional arch rubbing when going over bad bumps, but other than that, all good. 500 miles of running in have passed so far, taking it easy, and feel there’s another couple hundred miles left until the clutch/flywheel are properly bedded in. Trying to drive her as much as possible in this nice weather, on evenings after work and on weekends.- Your 300ZX

Yep aware of that thanks - point was more just knowing it wasn’t a perfect job. Oh well, the visible bits look good and should be a durable finish so happy overall. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk- 300ZX TT - A18GCK
The callipers were fully masked to all the important parts, sanded throughout and given multiple coats of gloss black paint. They were cured with the aid of a hair dryer/heat gun and the green house! Once satisfied the paint was cured sufficiently, some new Akebono stickers, followed by a very high temperature gloss clear coat was applied. These needed heating to 93c to fully cure. The downfall of this little project was the masking around the pistons - currently there’s an area around the pistons with the old paint visible, as I was so paranoid when cutting the tape during masking with the Stanley knife, that I’d cut the dust seals. This won’t be visible when behind the wheels so not too concerned! The front callipers had the red powder coat on the mating surfaces, so assume this will be removed before install - these were masked to ensure no paint entered the threads. Overall very happy and cannot wait to have a great set of anchors on all 4 sides! Hopefully have these on soon with photos to follow [emoji41]. If it’s the same one as on eBay for £4350 silver with advan wheels, then I know the one you’re talking about! Looked at MOT history and it’s been sat for 9 years - done something like 50 miles. I would be very wary with this car, as you could easily spend thousands sorting it. No note of timing belt service being done so you’ll have to at minimum carry out the; - 120k service: look at CZP or Z1 website for costs but maybe around £550 parts for oem parts and shipping/customs plus labour - flush all fluids and replace - probably replace crusty engine fuel hoses - replace anything else that’s crusty! Brake lines/hoses?? Mot history notes corrosion on seat belt anchor points in 2012 - check to see if this was sorted. The advert notes bad paintwork on the bonnet and on one of the sills - my bodyshop has always advised silver paintwork is a pain as you can’t just paint the problem panel, you need to repaint all the adjacent panels to blend the paint and make it match. For example, the bonnet needs doing, so you’ll have to do the front bumper and both front arches to make it look decent. If you’re mechanically able and have space at home, then you could take it on as a project to sort. If you’re like me - not mechanically able and expecting a ready running car, then I would avoid this like the plague! Yeah I thought you were mistaken when you said they didn’t sell the rebuild kits anymore, hence my first post! Such a shame to lose a quality product like that from the market. Hope the Z1 flywheel is all ok when fitted. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk- My daughter calls it Toothless the Dragon: My ‘95 TT Z
Just checked the SZ website and it appears the rebuild kits are no longer available. I bought mine back in early May so I must have gotten one of the last sets! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk- My daughter calls it Toothless the Dragon: My ‘95 TT Z
My flywheel prematurely wore out but thankfully they still sell the rebuild kits, which I bought. Jimmer said the cost of manufacturing the flywheels was too much, so SZ decided to stop making them. Not sure if it’s linked to COVID or not - sounded more like a long term thing and they’ve just had enough of the high costs. COVID may have been the last straw perhaps. Rust was quite extensive hey - guess previous owners must have used through winter? That’s a clean looking zed I can see in the background. Belong to anyone on the forum? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk- 300ZX TT - A18GCK
Cheers mate and oh that’s interesting. Yes they’re definitely the go to guys nowadays and importantly they’re PowerZed approved and recommended! They sorted out cars which turbonoz messed up like Bigh’s grey widebody. They’ve got raving reviews throughout the Jap car community, so relieved to have found a top notch tuner tbh. Honestly can’t wait to have some decent anchors on all 4 corners! They will definitely look the business too [emoji41] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk- 300ZX TT - A18GCK
A bit of a surprise but when Jim was replacing the rear main seal and sump seals, obviously the gearbox has to come off, and when doing so, he noticed the RPS max street clutch and Speciality Z flywheel I fitted early June last year was 2/3 worn through already! I think I may have counted a lot of motorway driving as ‘running in’ miles, whereas it should be town driving miles where they get a lot of use. Those traffic light launches therefore came a bit too early! Anyway lesson painfully learnt! Replacement clutch and flywheel re-build kit bought and awaiting fitment at Jims along with the brakes. I think it’s safe to say the respray is on hold until early next year due to all of the above!!! Jim highly recommended a company (much better than my local bodyshop) who are in Bristol named Dream Bodyworkz, so this delay may have been a blessing in disguise. They did Mattpurplez32’s beautiful zed (one of my favourites in the UK), and are currently doing another forum members car, as well as having repainted barn find 10k mile Z32’s etc. They’ve done a TK3 blue car owned by Ellie Calienda who I don’t know but aware she’s been around for a while. The photos of her car are like glass as they use this super thick clear coat as well as their hours and hours of prep work, building up the paint, polishing, blocking etc. They will do all of the fitment of the targa trims, rubbers, windscreen seals and are OCD about their work, so it’s safe to say that I am sold. I will chat to him very soon and hopefully get booked in for early next year.- 300ZX TT - A18GCK
Onto a historic issue with this car – the cold start rough idle and the ECU/Nistune (a lot of detail to this so I’ll keep it as short as possible!!). When I came to collect the car, Jim let me know he had real trouble setting up the timing after the fitment of the new CAS. He had spoken to Protuner (who previously tuned the car on the new 740cc injectors) and it turns out that they had to retard the timing quite a bit (car didn’t like the stock 15 degrees BTDC timing set up). The previous owner posted on the forum about the issues. In short, some of the comments from the club guru’s pointed towards a checklist of items to go through or replace – he had replaced all of the possible cause parts or carried out the recommended procedures. The forum members also mentioned that this car’s symptoms matched those of cars fitted with a dodgy batch of Nistunes, that were in circulation in the past. To rule out the ECU itself, the previous owner had swapped it out for another known good one, with no benefit. In addition to the above, I believe the car had been tuned by Turbonoz at some point (back when people didn’t know who he really was!). Overall it seems highly, highly likely the Nistune is at fault then. As with most aspects of this car, I don’t want to mess about trying to keep the outdated and limited OEM ECU / Nistune set up, so I’ve put a deposit down in May with Protuner for a new Link G4X ECU and a full rolling road set up/mapping session at the end of August (their earliest slot!!). This should hopefully resolve the issues once and for all. If the issues still persist, the ECU will at least provide the modern level of monitoring and diagnostics to hopefully tell us exactly what the issue is. As a bonus, it should push the car from its current 390bhp over that magic 400bhp mark, as the selin dual maf set up was fitted after the 390bhp map was carried out.- 300ZX TT - A18GCK
The new K-Sports at this point seemed like a bloody expensive mistake, but hey, you can’t win them all. I’ll put them up for sale soon. I’ve managed to sell the old faulty K-Sport’s already, and for a decent sum. With the sale of the stock rear brakes that are popular with the Nissan 200sx’s, I should be made whole, so not too shabby in the end. - 300ZX TT - A18GCK
