Erratic tick over
Did you try the grey connector as my original post? You can see it in your picture.

Erratic tick over
There are many things that may be causing your problem, but don't panic. Firstly I would look at the Throttle Positioning Sensor. (TPS) With the engine warm, switch off the engine but leave the ignition on and disconnect the grey connector coming off the TPS. Leave this disconnected for a 30 - 40 seconds and re connect. Switch off and try re starting the engine. Once we have eliminated this we can move on to the many other things that may be responsible.

Big F*cking Problems
If it has not already been suggested, I would get a reliable compression test done. I know this should be done ideally with a warm engine but maybe a good place to start. Also, what does the oil look like? Look in the filler neck and at the dipstick for creamy deposits. When you get chance, I would completely flush the system out until the water runs clean, these motors run on the threshold as it is. A good clean cooling system is imperative. Another thing to check would be the viscous coupling, especially as we have had some warm weather of late. I hope that the engine responds well when you next fire it up, hopefully nothing major has happened.

no cig lighter
Out of curiosity I have just checked mine. No power when keys are removed. 12 volts on first position on the key, clock, radio etc' Damn! too slow again. lol

no cig lighter
Have you checked for voltage with a meter? First check the wires coming in and then go on to the socket terminals themselves. Silly question, is voltage there permanent, or only with ignition key turned to auxilaries with these cars?

Data Scan connection issue
Bit of an update for anyone who may have similar problems. After discussing this with Tom from Data Scan, (very helpful chap by the way) I took his advice and purchased a USB to Serial Port adaptor cable. Initially I could not get the thing to communicate, but after several more conversations with Tom I got there. There were two main problems. Firstly, the cable adaptor was chipped and needed its own 64 bit driver installing. Once that was done I could assign the correct port number. Also, one thing I did discover is that I could not see the port in device manager until everything was hooked up. Then and only then was I able to update the drivers. Happy days. Just need to figure out how to use it!

Fixing a pesky oil leak
Fingers crossed for you mate. Hats off for your perseverance, it must be very frustrating in such a confined and awkward space. Hope you have solved it this time.

Where do I get..
With rubber O rings you have to take into account temperature ratings. If they are not Viton then they will not last. General plumbing seals may measure up right but will not stand up to the heat.

Odd revving/ power loss problem
Out of curiosity Jeff, how often is a sticking thermostat likely to occur? Say 1 in 10 of us or 1 in 100? Is it a possibility that some people may have this issue and not even realise it?

Data Scan connection issue
In brief, I have a Dell laptop with a 15 pin female serial connection socket. My Data Scan cable has a 9 pin female serial connection socket. My question is, how do I adapt the two without affecting the software function? Can I use an adaptor of some sort? If possible, I would prefer to remove the existing 9 pin female socket from the cable and re wire it to a 15 pin male connector. Is this possible? If so, would anyone know the correct pin wiring please?

thank you Jefftt
Nice one Jeff!

Fixing a pesky oil leak
Great write-up mate. It's much appreciated that you have taken the time and patience to not only post your progress, but to also post pictures. Very helpful, it's good to see the detail and complexity up close. Educational to say the least.:thumbup1:

How do I remove the rear seat?
Be careful when you pull the seat from the compression tangs, the seat can easily be distorted.

Water temp at idle
Mine will idle around the 80 to 82 degrees. Gauge sits just below half way.
