One for the electronic genii
As you suggested, cleaned the thing inside and out but to no avail. This time the unit only covered a couple of tracks before giving up the ghost. Strange thing is, this is the second unit to develop this fault in the last 12 months! Coincidence? or maybe related to a fault elsewhere? Really fed up as I love the original look and am loathed to fit an after market one.

One for the electronic genii
I have an original Compact Disc Player installed. My problem is that it will not play an entire disc in one session. It will manage to play 10 or 11 tracks of any given disc before faltering and eventually stopping altogether. After that it will not respond to anything other than disc in and disc out. The funny thing is, if I leave it and try again tomorrow it will do the same again! Any ideas?

fuel question?
Mine improved no end by changing the O2 sensors. Both were dead.

Variable cam timing rattle!! :helpsmilie:
Thanks Jeff, Although that does start me worrying that it may be something more sinister. I know I should not say this, but it does sound like little ends to me. A little history of the engine. I acquired the car from my boss in 2007 who had owned it for 12 years. 22,000 miles ago he had Nissan put a full new engine in it. During his ownership he very rarely took it above 4,000rpm and had it regularly serviced etc'. (he has an R8 now.) I am struggling to believe that if the above is so that it can be anything serious, but never the less it does not sound good to me.

Variable cam timing rattle!! :helpsmilie:
I am happy with tick over Jeff, it's more apparent when I am either... (1) When I feather the throttle at around 2,500rpm and 3,000rpm it is very noisy. (rattly) (2) It is also very pronounced when I put her in the garage. (1,000rpm to 2,000rpm up a slight decline under load) (3) Not sure if this is relevant, but she does rattle quite badly at start up from cold for a second or 2 Jeff, meant to add, Tick over when up to temp' 750rpm. (from cold start, 1400rpm)

Variable cam timing rattle!! :helpsmilie:
Is this an easy fix? :helpsmilie: I think I have read that it is due to a weakening of springs, would this be correct? If this is the case, is there a write up somewhere? Also, is there an upgrade to the springs that I should also consider? Any help would be much appreciated as it is driving me mad!! Can't stand rattly engines.

Help with Erratic Idle Problem, Possible Dead MAF Sensor
I notice that the new MAF has only 4 connections and the old one looks to have 5. Do we know why this is and will it make any difference?

Weird timing problem.....
Hope all goes well Russ. Have a great anniversary, hopefully the good weather will hold also. Maybe worth putting a temporary mark on the pully when no' 1 is at TDC and re checking. At least you will have peace of mind that you are not too far out?

:scared: Lets hope it's something simple mate. I'm sure it will be. Fingers crossed for the CAS swap.

Weird timing problem.....
I would not dismiss the sender out of hand, they are known to be a bit unreliable but you never know for sure. Mine used to be intermittent, but after a valve treatment and fresh oil it works well. How old is your oil? It maybe getting thin at full temp. As for TDC, as Znut said, you need to be sure you are on a compression stroke and not exhaust stroke. You will have a 50 50 chance of being right first time.

Weird timing problem.....
Hi Russ, just putting 2 and 2 together and probably getting 5. But have you been working on a manifold gasket issue? May explain the smell of gas and also you may have disturbed something, perhaps the connector to the Cas? I am just looking for cause and effect really , but may just be coincidence.

Well, after several attempts, I finally managed to get my headlights roughly set. A bit embarrassing really. The first set up on the low beam a few days ago know were just, well, weird. The pattern was nothing like I expected, so I changed the bulbs, this made things even worse. One side looked good the other cr#p. Then it dawned on me, I had managed to fit the bulbs upside down initially.:blushing: I confess to this so as to help save fellow members from falling into the same trap. The pictures that follow are firstly main beam and then low beam. Not perfect, but getting there. I am still not convinced that I have not inserted the main beam bulbs upside down. ( is that possible? )- Weird timing problem.....
Is she up to running temperature Russ?- Car acting odd after being parked over night
In the past, I have experienced the very same symptoms. Mine turned out to be an electrical short due to a corroded connector plug in the drivers foot well next to the fuse box. I had checked the plug a couple of times and all looked good, it wasn't until I dismantled the casing so as to check internally that I found my problem. There was green corrosion across several of the individual crimped connectors causing a short. A quick way of checking would be to put a meter in line with the live side of the battery and see if you have the same parasitic voltage drain as I did. With everything off I think you should see about 80 milli amps. (I was seeing 1.5 volts until I cleaned the corrosion out) Was back to a healthy 80-90 milli amps afterwards and the problem was solved. It may be a coincidence, but I also have the dreaded leaking targa top. Just another thought, it may be the same problem but on a different connector located elsewhere, so you may have to look at several. Also, it may be related to your strange error codes as some look similar to earthing problems.- What did you do to your zed today?
After several attempts, I finally fitted the washer bottle today. Talk about fiddly or what! :censored: Must remember to re assemble in exactly the reverse order in future.- What did you do to your zed today?

Started the rebuild of my washer bottle after several hours cleaning. Not to shabby if I do say so myself. Hope to get it fitted tomorrow.- What did you do to your zed today?
First I soaked it in Janitol plus in hot water to soften everything. For the outside I used a kitchen scoured. The real magic happens for the inside. Once it has been in soak for several hours, I then drain it and put 2 crumbled dishwasher tablets and 2 cup fulls of dishwasher salt inside. I add about half a pint of warm water to this and then shake vigorously until all of the crap is removed. You will have to work the solution around and work each area at a time. Don't forget to block of all of the holes mind. - What did you do to your zed today?
