A bit disappointed
Hi Quavey, It's a UK manual.:blushing: Thanks TonyB, So as I understand, changing up at the peek of torque rather than at maximum revs would make better use of power? For example, perhaps changing at 5,500rpm may well have actually been faster?:blushing: I am looking forward to giving that a try, weather permitting. If I was to get a power test, would it be possible to have a gear change indication light fitted to the dash?:cool2:

Opposite way I'm afraid, Heading away with tail between his legs. Maybe he was up for revenge after you panned him when he saw me. Damn Golf, I must try harder next time. Mind you, having said that, he could not quite keep up and at least he did not pass me.

I can only hope it was the same one, unlikely mind, but you never know?

Not knowing much about the Golf, would the R32 be the fastest standard Golf out there to date then? Maybe I should of just of planted the throttle through the gears and not been as cautious.

Some serious Golfs out there then?:sweatdrop: Mmmmm, best leave them alone in future then. And here's me thinking I was invincible. Damn it!:crying:

A bit disappointed
As the weather looked promising, I thought I would give the Zed a bit of a run up and down the by-pass a few times. Couldn't help noticing a white VW hatch-back pick up my rear.:sneaky2: Well I will soon loose him! or so I thought.:turned: 110mph came and went and I had only pulled a slight gap!:w00t: I did not plant my foot through the gears but never the less, I did still touch 6,500rpm through each gear. Is my Zed tired or have I met my match? I thought these cars were a bit more untouchable?

Seized gearbox filler plug. ARGHHHH
Judging from my first attempts I can't see any other option but to ask at my local garage, As you and Jeff have said, looks like access and leverage is the way forward.

Nearly ready.
Nice to see someone else tackling the dreaded tin worm. I have not long done the same to mine, it took a while but was well worth the wait. I would love to see your progress as you go. Also, having just done mine, if there are any questions you might have, feel free to ask. I am no expert but did learn a lot as I went.

Grinding noise when out of gear at slow speed?
Second that Hollowpoint, that will then at least confirm them as the problem or eliminate them. It might also be worth checking that all the pistons move forward and back freely, it may be that you have one dragging on the disk. Mind you do not push to far back as you may push your fluid out of the reservoir as the lid will be off.

Grinding noise when out of gear at slow speed?
I would recommend lifting each corner off the ground and revolving each wheel by hand, with the sound as you describe it should be easy enough to feel. A friend of mine had a front wheel bearing seize at speed, not nice. the car was written off but he was lucky enough to not get hurt. Also, is the hub/wheel getting hot after a run? usually a good sign of friction.

MOT 'Wavers'...
Hi Cov Rob, I have been off the road for the last 4 years or so with the dreaded tin worm. :excl: I have to say the MOT was a bit of a nightmare, particularly the emissions. I had to get clarification from VOSA to convince the test station about the none cat test irrespective of the year. The real bummer was the rear break lines, they are very susceptible to heavy corrosion, I had to replace the whole rear section. (sub-frame out job!!!):taz: The next major hurdle was the excessive movement in the rear wheels, they kept going on about the metalastik bushes, so I replaced them all. Still failed, Turned out to be the inner rear hicas track rod ends. Finally passed in time for me to get some summer driving in, at last. Maybe still 1 or 2 more outings possible before she is SORN. (WEATHER PERMITTING) Good to hear about a fellow Coventry Zed. By the way, Potters Green Area for me.

MOT 'Wavers'...
If I remember correctly, The 300zx does not appear on the emissions date base, therefore it needs to be put through a BET test (BEST EMISSION TEST)of which it will fail. This then takes the test onto a none cat emission test. So long as your CO2 then reads less than 3.5% (Which it should) you will be OK.

rear decals
Hi phutumsch, Thanks for the pm,:thumbup1: your link did not work for me I'm afraid, so I am a little unsure as to what I am buying. I have a uk 300zx manual twin turbo, would these be as original? (1992, as a one piece strip?) Thanks in advance. Dave.
