  1. Kinda hard to try and explain why I think people are comfortable with the speed they go, but I'll have a go. My point was that I wouldn't be surprised if people were comfortable doing 80 because they're just used to it. Limit is 70, some people do 80, slowly more and more people are exposed to that and think yea alright this is fine, I can cruise at 80. Then you introduce an 80 limit, so some people push that to 90. So you spend more time surrounded by people going 90, start to get used to it, you're kids grow up in a world where people do 90, and that slowly becomes the norm. So I wouldn't be surprised if it would just creep up and up, and maybe that's why they don't want to increase it. In reality though I'm sure it's just because it would look like a bad move to a lot of people so they'll just keep the status quo of we won't stop you. I don't think the speed limit has much bearing on whether people lane hog, it's just a lack of education and just plain selfishness sometimes. When I drove in France last year their use of lanes was absolutely impeccable, whether someone was coming up behind them or not. And their limit is what, 80mph or so, so the real world speeds were no different to ours, and slower than Germany, but they still have that culture.
  2. I agree, I imagine the worry is that if 80 is the norm for a 70 limit, it wouldn't be too long for 90 to be the norm for an 80 limit. I would think we would all agree most people don't bat much of an eyelid going 10mph above any speed, whether you think it's a good idea or not. I personally don't have any problem with the current status quo of you can get away with 80.
  3. All of what you said is of course true. But this is the whole point!
  4. Hmm I have a sneaking suspicion Mr RoadTrafficAccidentStatistics may have something to say about your claim 100mph crashes are perfectly safe. Besides that's not the only issue. It's also people's reaction times, which of course have nothing to do with the car. And awareness of what's around them, and speed differentials as not everyone will go that fast
  5. Exactly. As much as I'd like to cruise around at those speeds, I sure as hell don't trust all the morons you see on motorways to drive around me like that!
  6. All the motorway camera's use the front plates don't they so this will never happen :innocent: not even sure I'd want it to, just makes it harder to identify a vehicle in a hit and run etc. Now I think of it, don't lots of police cars have cameras on the front that check number plates for tax etc? There's no way they'll nullify that investment! And bus lanes, yellow boxes...
  7. Sounds like you've got it now but surely it has to be the caster! Having the alignment done is fairly pointless without it being done I would imagine, will adjusting it not change all the other measurements? Why wasn't it checked out of interest?
  8. The thing that's annoying me the most about all of this, apart from what Stephen is saying, is that I don't really know who the hell you're talking about (well I can guess one of them, but it's only a guess). How is this educating people if I can't understand it and then act upon that information? Right now if I wanted a rebuild/remap I could very easily fall into this supposed trap because you're all hiding behind smoke and mirrors!! So what's the point? Facts or this thread is pointless
  9. Leaking quite a lot of fluid  looks to me like it's coming from about here There's a rubber pipe that comes out the side of the reservoir that then appears to change into a metal pipe that runs all along the front of the car. There's a small section of rubber hose, only an inch or two long I think, that forms a turn just before the pipe runs down to top of the front cross member. Can see fluid dripping down this vertical section so I imagine it's the join between the rubber and metal pipe above this section that's causing the issue. Anyone got a good used pipe? I imagine I'll have to replace the whole section?
  10. Or put a resistor in as well?
  11. God I bet, I'd love to know how much it goes for!
  12. This, last time I cancelled it only cost like £15. There may be a weeks grace period anyway?
  13. Bloody typical, you wait for a white zed for ages and then two more come along at once! That first one is stunning Seems perfectly normal to me to redecorate when you move house! I'm no expert, but if it was a manual I reckon it would have gone for at least 2k more, so by the time you pay duty and vat on that it's 2.6k more. Outside my budget, manuals are expensive! My current zed is a conversion and I'm perfectly happy with it, it's more cost effective this way. It will take value off my current zed so it will cost me something, but nowhere near that much!
  14. Well I'll have to change it then! Cheers
  15. Urgh I think they're horrible, but it's probably one of those things you get used to then start to like. I didn't like despoilered zeds when I got my current one, but got used to it and I don't mind it now. It's not something I'll rush in to, plenty of other bits to do first that will take quite a while/bit of money, but that's the current plan anyway. Yea I'd replace the prop, if I'm under there anyway doing the gearbox (I don't actually know if auto and manual props are the same) then why not, what's the downside? I only got this prop 3 or 4 months ago, even if the new one seems alright at the moment, assuming it's the original prop surely the rubber will start to go sooner or later so why pass up the one piece? Everyone says they really like them, I found it hard to judge actually as my stock prop was so bad it wasn't really a fair comparison
  16. Nothing major, swap the manual gearbox, one piece prop, brakes, wheels and exhaust over from my current zed. Got a greddy boost controller ready to go in so will get it mapped but not after big power. Cambelt if it needs it if course. Then hopefully some 99 spec goodies and get rid of the disgusting spoiler for an 89 spec. I just wanted a nice clean (white) car!
  17. Me and gazwoz won this this morning  it's not perfect, will need a couple of little bits of paint looking at, but it's nothing big and now I've got a 50k miles zed on it's way, it's gonna be a long wait!!
  18. All this is well and good, but the thing that gets me the most is the assertion that it is "Very Economical"...
  19. I love how many people have bid on it!
  20. Don't think they're that common though, which is the point!
  21. See a fair few purples don't you?
  22. Is it not a lot easier to separate them? I believe you have to tilt them at a weird angle to get them out like that. It's not difficult to get the gearbox off
  23. Ha I'd never heard of this, had to google it! I'd seen the black things on the front of the bumpers and wondered what they were. Weird idea really!
  24. Tbh I was thinking this, but like you said difficult to really tell so close up. I would definitely leave it a week or two and see what you think then, you may just be so used to your old ones that anything else looks odd at the moment!
