Thinking of a colour (help)
I use satin black all the Time . My z32 is done inside with it. But its 2K paint the 240Z that is having the satin grey outside is all finished inside in satin black. They are not typical road cars tho . Eg they have no/minimal interior trim. No carpets etc. So the satin black suits the motorsport look. Even matt black looks good on the outside if properly sprayed. if anyone has seenMike(Mr F at MJP)'s Z31 SWB you will know how menacing the colour can be. what gives satin/matt finishes a bit of a bad name in the looks league is people who just buy 12 cheap rattle cans and use them. Nothing wrong with that if funds are tight BUT the final look is always like you spent £36..IMO For 95% of you out there including Dave/Car Mad gloss is still the better option. So Im going to vote Gloss for Dave:thumbup:

Thinking of a colour (help)
LOL!!! Being serious as a reply I have just done my first piece of satin paint work in a custom grey shade similar to graphite grey . IMO it looks pretty cool. Its on a Motorsport orientated agressive looking 240Z tho so may not seem as appropriate on a road style Z32. IMo

100% the correct action. What saddens me is the fact that this other club just allows him to carry on.

Ten of the Best next weekend
Thanks alan for your kind comments. Let me correct a little error first. The original owner of Bob's Candy apple red car was CJ. Not Ceejay. The engine now in the slicktop is based on the Old CJ engine but very little remains of it. We really have to give credit to Dan Turner at AME Silvertone for engine work. Funnily enough the current egine is based on a NA block from one of my old breakers!! The car is constantly evolving and changing. Already this season the braking and suspension have been upgraded. TOTB will probably be its last outing in its currrent trim/spec. we are discussing(and arguing!!) about the changes to be made. You will just need to wait till its done before Bob will let me tell you all about it. i will be involved in some of the changes so thats when you will get to see some new pics etc. Without giving anything away we are looking at ...... Revised engine/power revised transmission spec. Revised aerodynamic package. Weight reduction program Now that is ALL I can say for now.... or I will be in trouble:death:

Ten of the Best next weekend
Oh yes . Bob has plans to turn the car in to a properly finished road car. IMO it fell short of your description of "awesome" .It is/was a good collection of high quality parts but with some shortcomings. It will be at my place some time later this year I think so maybe Bob will let me post up some pics of the revised car. As always tho Bob's main focus (and mine too) is to make the white slicktop into the fastest most powerful Z32 here in the UK and to enter it in to various forms of motorsport. We dont do "show n shine":whistling: Im not able to divulge further info at the moment but watch out for developments later in the year.

Ten of the Best next weekend
Nope. It will live on. In a slightly different form.

Ten of the Best next weekend
It was!! Its a trashed s/h box now! good job that Bob bought Madmax's car for spares. even the later 98 spec new Nissan gbox is on borrowed time in a car as powerful as Bob's when driven in anger. There is a better solution in the pipeline tho.

Pearlesent white zed
Good point Joel. although its technically an import its been used here all its life on our salty roads. AND its been round the world several times. Lots of people dont understand the rear arch rust thing. By the time you see it its too late!! As it rusts outwards from the hidden seams and box sections. I have chopped up enough of them to see how it all begins. One to avoid IMO

Pearlesent white zed
Real story....... Rear arches are rusting extensively from the inside. It is now so bad its breaking through....which means both arches need replacing.:ninja: Sills and seatbelt anchor points are totally *****xed also and endless hours of fabrication and welding will be needed. Finally you will never match 20 year old pearlescent paint:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

Six years later!!!!!!!!!!! Its got a ticket!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well a trip to Nottingham 4Wheel Alignment Srevices today has got all the wheels pointing in the same direction and at the correct angle . Car feels completely different. Im well chuffed One of the best mods I have done and not expensive for a full tracking, camber and castor front plus tracking and camber at the back. Total £88.

what do you think of this .....
Bob n me saw this last year at TOTB I think. Look forward to seeing it run in its new more powerful guise

BCR Coilovers
Rear end hop is often a sign of being oversprung. Its not the dampers its the springs. Paul has alrady alluded to this in his post. Contrast the rates paul has quoted to my Meister Rs which have 4kg and 6 kg springs. A high spring rate is needed for fast cornering on smooth race circuits and it is race technology that has produced most coilover sets. On the majority of Britains road network those same high rates will lead to "axle hop" which is what you seem to be describing.

Six years later!!!!!!!!!!! Its got a ticket!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So one step further this week.... i took the car down to DB Automotive next door to Santa Pod Raceway to get the rear arches rolled. Didnt get any flaring done so it still looks stock. So no point it taking a picture. LOL! Im not sure if I really need it doing or not but I didnt want to turn up next week for suspension setting to find out the tyres fouled. i was well pleased with the result and it was good to give the car another run. Its still frustating as I cant floor it yet due to the back end not aligned correctly . Its fine on a smooth dry road like the M1 but on the lane down to Santa Pod the car dives around on its own:huh:
