Speedo Dead
if the powersteering is working that tends to suggest the speedo sensor is working, iirc consult shows your speedo from the ecu? so you could try that to see if you get a reading, that would tend to indicate to me the cabling from there on isn't right.

You can rent one for the day for between 45 and 70 quid mark, id rather do that personally than drive that car without it setup.

The Childhood Dream
Oh and if you ask insurance companies, "how one can pay" your going to pay more, only richos and poshos say one mate, they will see you coming. haha

The Childhood Dream
You need to be on a classic policy, as a second car for starters, quite a few insures now class it as one. Its around £1000 a year for insurance to use it daily to get to work etc. Import wise shop around, most companies realise that the import is the same car and charge no premium. I don't know what part of Manchester you live in, but that may well have something to do with it, large cities put the price up. However you are right the insurance system here is rubbish! What will really annoy you is im only 26!

zx or california
I've seen quite a few California's, seen two today actually and its raining! Much prefer the Italia, a customer has a bright orange Aventador, I drooled over it for a while in his garage, the rears are massive, 310 wide iirc. I see a lot of luxury and supercar stuff, some of them are beautiful, most though are pretty boring. I'm so bored by the Bently continental's, Astons Db7/9 rapides etc , the R8 was fascinating when I first saw one, but they just haven't aged well they looked sleek and stylish then but now they just look bland. Id rather see an r34 than an r35, I like them but they are common as muck now, same as the Maserati granturismo theres just to many of them about. The Panemara is ugly. If I had the cash, honestly...id be going for a mid to late 90's 911 of some sort, yes they are common, but theyre reliable responsive, relatively cheap for the that class of car, and you know you can DRIVE it not just pose in the thing. Almost every supercar I ever see is either parked up on double yellows on the hight street or cruising in the inside lane at 50, I don't think people buy them to drive them, just to show off, that's no fun, and that's what a sports/supercar should be FUN.

Newbie right at the beginning of the journey
Fortunately there are plenty of us in that area, Handfull in Bournemouth and another few more scattered here there and everywhere dorset and hants. If you want to pop along to Simply Japanese on the 4th of august there are a fair few members going along, this will allow you to see some examples and meet some members, plus its very local to you. Tips for buying are buy the best one you can afford you will save money very quickly cheap examples are cheap for a reason, trust me. Budget around 3.5k to buy a good example, and if you can find another thousand to sit in the bank for the first 12 months this should cover the bulk of maintaince that may crop up. Club cars are the best bet as they have generally been well looked after and had money spent on maintenance. Good luck.

The stock setup has a relay that turns off the main beam when you flick on the full beam, that's fine on the stock setup because the mainbeams engage instantly. However whe you fit HID's the effect is lost if you've been driving along with the full beams on then flick them off again for a split second you will have no lights....not cool. So what many do is short out the light, this stops the relay deactivating the mainbeam when full beam is activated. The result is you get both on at the same time, super bright and no dark flash period, it also prolongs your HID life by not having them flick on off when you flash. The downside is when you flash without your main beams on the whole lot comes on, there is a way round this, cant remember what it is though...

Engine rebuild vs constant repairs
Couldn't agree more jeff, especially with these cars everything is so hidden, its not until you physically pull the block that you can even see many things, let alone access them. If bungle has had his hands on your car aswel at some point god knows whats hiding in the bowels of the engine. I found at least three loose bolts floating around under my plenum when that was removed :s and a socket.
