Project Dittohead Red
The objective is to get something presentable, it’s no show pony and I’ve no interest in creating a show car. I’m looking a solid non metallic with the shuts done. Engine bay can be done at a later date then the engines out for one reason or another. So realistically it’s exterior panels tailgate and door shuts. The JFDI is quite apt, il remind you of that at one point.

Project Dittohead Red
After lots of thought, backwards and forwards on the idea I’ve made a decision on the cars future. It’s not essentially the choice I would of liked to have made in the ideal world and I’ll explain that as I go, the important part is I’m keeping it. The other cars I would of liked or that may of been a happy compromise just have to many negatives or too larger financial implications, for example I’ve looked a Z4 coupe, beautiful car but due to being newer the monthly cost of insurance and tax is significantly higher, I’ve looked at a few chunks of classic American metal, whilst the running cost and maintenance is lower they aren’t a cheap intial outlay these days and realistically to make one into what I want we’re talking about a full rebuild and move to a hot rod really. So whilst my Z32 isn’t everything I’d like it to be and lacks that 8 cylinder sound track it’s a good compromise all round for a list of things that aren’t together unless I go and spend £30k, about what you’d pay for a nice Corvette, which is the cost of the extension planned to the house... So what’s the plan then, around this ramble. Full exterior refresh, this will include some subject mods that will upset some but the end package will be what I want. The refresh will include a colour change, I never wanted a red one, colour change will be kept quiet. Thoughts? Maybe you’ve an idea to facilitate a cheap respray?

Devil Z on trc channel.
Saw this with that set up on Fastest Car, it was quick then, it’s quicker now. 8.91 second quarter miles on a stock bottom end and people say the bottom end is only got forcabout 400hp

Brexit Poll
That’s the official line yeah, I think the reality is different. Boris has deliberately tried and failed so far, to trigger that process because he knows he needs a smaller win than May got to gain a majority. Labour are also aware of this, they’re also aware the most likely outcome of a GE is a hung Parliament, so they would have to make a deal with someone, all this fence sitting they’ve done of being the official party of Brexit/Remain depending on what they think you’d like to hear has really turned voters on to them. - - - Updated - - - *Has not really turned voters on.

If the 300zx was made today
Apparently it’s a Electric car, because there’s zero ducting to allow air to an engine up front there. Slight ooops. - - - Updated - - - Apparently it’s a Electric car, because there’s zero ducting to allow air to an engine up front there. Slight ooops.

Brexit Poll
Still gotta get that deal through Parliament Gary, in a minority government when the prop (the DUP) are apposed your plan. Expect to see terms written by Labour to support it on the terms of a second referendum, or to vote it down and put in the no confidence vote. Labour will do whatever they can to trigger a general election, national interest be damned.

Why......??
Cynically? Probably because they haven’t seen enough profit from this project and will pull that magic one out as the next big fix. The trouble with electric cars isn’t the power supply, although that’s a factor, it’s the Carbon foot print and complications of production and disposal. Regarding XR, I really wonder how many people know what they are supporting when they fly thier flag. I’m glad there’s something new for me to cast my skeptic eye upon and get called a right wing bigot for.

Why......??
Same reason they are looking to drop Lamborghini. Over a thousand climate change protesters have been arrested this week in London alone. The extremist pressure is high on governments and the car is public enemy number 1 after aircraft.

Price fall?
I never forget driving an original Beetle, such a cult car... I literally would pay not to drive one.
-
Price fall?
Not saying they are all my opinion, they are wildly held opinions though. For thier time, they were quick, by modern standards though... and that’s what people think about.
-
Price fall?
Sadly the latter. They have a reputation, some they deserve others they don’t. That list includes, expensive to maintain and modify, unreliable, heavy with poor handling, rust buckets, over complicated and believe it or not... slow, yup, slow.

Price fall?
Any illusion that I’ve made money on mine is complete deception. It would have to worth about £15k for me to have made money on it over that last decade. However as someone who is in the position of consideration of moving on (no secret) the real world value has meaning, simply because; If I can get something else I want more or something else I’d want with some equity, that’s a big pull to sell. Realistically everything I’ve got my eye on would require a top up on the toy fund to get me to 10-15k. Whilst I have no need to sell, thankfully, I have a number of other large financial comitments at present.
-
Price fall?
Undoubtedly. Even other cars of the same marque like the 200sx or GTiR have crept up in value significantly. Skyline GTRs are really up there.

Price fall?
Mr Parsons car would of sold quickly, if it was at a fair price. The car is a celebrity because of the brand Simon built around it throughout his ownership, there would of been a que of people waiting to buy it. Even if it sold for £30k it’s sale isn’t really a reflection on the market as a whole, it’s like a film car or something with a following.

Price fall?
Some examples off this very forum, which is a very limited sample of the market... £7.6k is fair money for a Z32 but for a U.K. TT in this condition, surely this should be far more of value? It’s a great car btw who ever owns it. https://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?190988-1991-nissan-300zx-twin-turbo-rare-uk-model-only-74k-fsh-only-3-owners-from-new Yours for a mere 4.5k, on the market since September. https://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?190949-300zx-Z32-Twin-Turbo-Manual-LWB-(UK-Car) If a good example is worth over £10,000 you shouldn’t be able to buy this project for a £2k, it needs a new engine but the rest of it is a good little car. Prices have clearly risen but I’m not sure they’re doing quite what we think.
-
Price fall?
Sorry yeah, the car Mikes selling is 20k, misread that. Get what your saying Gary and Lee but is it true? Now. Josh Lakes got a very nice freshly imported TT auto for about 6k. There’s a couple of Zs in Road worthy condition for about what they would of been worth 5-6 years ago.
-
Price fall?
It was a recent consensus that prices for these cars were climbing. However keeping an eye on these things there seems to be stuff about cheaper than what was. For example on eBay there’s more than one TT for about 3k, for a running car with an MOT. On Social Media both Mike Feeney from MJP and Simon from Hide and Seat are selling great cars for not a lot, think Simons car is up for £5k! On here there’s a decent UK spec unsold for £4.5k. Interesting to note the amount of cars not for sale via the club... different topic. Maybe the quoted values were a tad optimistic?

Chameleon front end tidy up
Do you really want it out Chris? Do you have a hoist and a stand?
-
Intercoolers
I just cut the top of the stock duct and extended the centre.

Newbie with manual Z31 turbo
Very tidy.

They do come out but they’re a pain in the ass, refitting them is even worse.

Black 1991 Build "NERD"
The solenoids will be the AIV and a few other bits, looks like it’s been butchered a bit. Personally I’d go through and delete all that nonsense, replacing the small pipes that are left. You should then be able to see the wood for the trees. I assume two of the big four I tercooler pipes are just off due to inspection but it’s not going to run well with them off. Then I’d do a boost leak test, identifying any vaccum leaks, which will no doubt be present. Check and set the Trottle Position Sensor. I would guess the MAF is faulty, but you need to work through logically.

Intercoolers
Yeah. I have done what your thinking. So I’ve deleted the Carbon Canister, repacked and relocated the radiator expansion tank, then cut the arch liners to allow the air to pass quickly away from the cooler. I did toy with replacing the washer bottle but in the end I decided that there was a sufficiently clear pathway round it.
-
Intercoolers
In what respect? My cars a long way from factory.
-
Intercoolers
My car has the generic Chinese ones, often branded as Godspeed, Japspeed etc. They are genuinely massive. We found that the stock intercoolers weren’t coping that well at 16psi, a few pulls and the heat soak was evident. I haven’t had chance to retest with the new coolers, I doubt they are significantly better than stock, however they have got to better than 30 year old stock coolers with 30 years of use and abuse. I have butchered the stock ducting and opened the “exhaust” area to allow that heated air to exit as well. I’d update the results but next time the car is dyno’d there will be too many altered variables to be a fair test.
