1. Already got loads of the club stuff ! But that does look good, how many have bought one then ? Says 7 sold so far !
2. So you would say helicoil is best, can this be done with the plennum still on ? Or would it all have to come off again ?
3. Cheers guys, Ordered a kit but it hasn't arrived yet ! But looks like its more bad news for my zed as ive got a stripped bolt hole on the right side of the ballance bar; its the front of the three screws that holds down the balance bar to the plennum, whats best to do get it re tapped with a new thread or get it helicoiled ? I've cheated for now and put some gasket sealer round the area for now just so i can drive it to the garage and back along with some tape wrapped arround the bolt to make it thicker and it's holding safely for now. Whats your thoughts, this happened to anybody else ?
4. I personally think it's too soft a pipe for the job! I bought the same kit not long ago and decided to buy fuel hose instead! Much thicker and less chance of springing a leak !
5. Then you would be a sucker for doing it!! lol
6. Just found out that one of the O rings fell out while refitting my balance bar so mine will be 100% too shortly !
7. I seem to have lost the smaller of the three O rings used on the balance bar. Anybody know if there's a way to replace this with another part from say halfords or local garage ! Looking to get this fixed by tomorrow so all guidance appreciated !
8. I've a 1996 Jap TT which I just changed the exhaust on! I kept the cats on but hate them as it restricts the rumble I used to get on my old 1991 zed, you think this would pass mot if I take the cats off ?
9. Well the good thing about this club is the fellow zedders who devote their time and effort to help all the others. I know theres plenty of zeds out there that are broke but i bets most of them are getting some sort of modification to improve apon, and its totally the owners choice that its off the road in the first place. My two zeds are off the road at the moment but it was my choice and at that shows the commitment us owners put into our zeds to better them. Heres a virtual pint for all the zed owners and non zed owners who help out and keep this club alive and making it well worth being a subscribed member. :duffer:
10. Fair enough ! But give it a few days and it will be 100% :cool2:
11. I'll have you know my black zed is 90% road worthy since last night !
12. Looks like 4 of the mods have two zeds each ! 16 Zeds between 16 forum staff so i think were all covered ! :punk::thumbup::clap::thumbup::punk:
13. Not sure what the difference would be apart from the way the pipes are made. Pipes on more expesive kit could be thicker and better machine finnish at the ends, The silicon on these was just as high quality as the sfs hoses i bought.
14. There ok but not comparable to higher end hard pipes ! These feel fairly light on the weight scale compared to the ones i just bought.
15. i've a spare set of these going, you can have them for 40 bux ! i never fitted due to going for the red look rather than blue.
16. Think its the same size, I think the problem i've got is the pipes are now too thick and the bend needed breaks the seal. I've tightened the jubilee clip as much as possable but still getting a leak.
17. As prommised heres a wee video ! You can clearly hear the vacuum leak due to the incorrect pipes at the back of the plennum.
18. Was up early this morning and took a shot of the engine as is now ! Still need to get some new pipes so the pipe you see at the back and right side is tempory ! So heres a before shot : and heres the new look shot : Also made a wee video which i'll put up shortly ! Need to change those red pipes too as there causing a vacuum leak Which you can hear in the video which i'll post.
19. Was out working on the zed for a few hours this morning and I managed to get everything back together properly (i hope) and start her up for the first time in over a month. Done a precheck for everthing on the plennum then at 6pm i reconnected the battery and gave the key a turn. Took three attempts to start her - most likely due to no fuel in the pipes but after the third turn she started ! Quickly followed by disaster !! One of the clips on the fuel line on the plennum wasn't tight enough and a 4ft jet of fuel sprayed upwards all over the car. I turned the ignition off grabbed a towl to soak up the visable fuel leak and tightened the jubilee clip. Giving 15 minutes to get rid of the fuel vapour surrounding the car i tried on the ignition once again - this time with a hissing noice that a traced to a damaged pipe at the back of the plennum. So engine rebuild is 90% succesfull and all I need to do is buy some new pipes. No pics this time as it was like pitch black but i'll take some in the morning.
20. After your recomendation i stuck with the standard clips rather than the jubilee type ! Makes sense !
21. Done the wire tuck today and chopped up the loom in order to hide the cables under the plennum also fitted the new water pipes too. Heres a few pics :
22. Not the best pic as its fairly dark outside but after I tidied up the loom and all the connectors I refitted the plennum with its new gasket. Apart from the cable loom at the far right i've managed to tuck and hide most of the connectors that were in there oem positions. First thing in the morning weather dependant i'll drain the coolant and fit the hard pipes i got a few weeks ago.
23. After confirmination that I can safely and carefully split the loom i did exactly that today, with the help of a fresh stanley blade I scored the outer sheeth of the loom and peeled all the black sticky tape off. Also marked each cable to ensure i didn't put things back in the wrong place. Before making and taping up the new shape loom i first done a test fit of the plenum to make sure all the cables are not obscured in someway. Heres a pic of the new wired loom in shiny yellow tape :
24. New water hose finally arrived on friday, managed to order the wrong one last week so i'm now a week behind where i want to be with getting the zed back on the road. After doing a plennum water bypass I believe theres only two water pipes that i need to connect together to complete the circuit. These are pictures below, now if anybody thinks this is wrong please PM me.
