  1. Daz, i've got some free time this afternoon to lend a hand if you like. Not making any promises but a second pair of eyes might help.
  2. I like - don't think the wife would though. Hmm where can i find a spare engine...
  3. Maybe Daz will sell you his seeing as he doesn't seem to like it anymore.
  4. £2k is very good for a late UK model if the body work is good and the mileage isn't to astronomical.
  5. On what grounds should it be illegal? The insurance issue has arisen from the Equality Act 2010 and the protected nature of sexual discrimination. There are other protected areas but not, to my mind, anything that would cover your complaint.
  6. No i didn't - it's one of many things that the car insurance premium should be based on. It's all a calculated risk and returning to the orginal point of this thread, using the broad category of gender is now correctly unlawful. However other factors experience, location, type of vehicle are much more personalised and reasonable. Then that would be age discrimination. Maybe the EU will rule that is unlawful as well No they don't but it is a reasonable idea. Perhaps they should charge as highish figure for a new driver - lets say £2k. With the understanding that if there is no claim an agreed amount is refunded to reflect a fair amount. That was the insurance company has the money initially should there be a claim, but doesn't get to keep it if there isnt one. They have the driving history from the time as a provisional driver and as a learner, but obviosuly no ncb. My reference to "We all have..." was actually directed to the users of this forum and in particular the people who have posted in this thread rather than the car driving population. Didn't say they were. I was very careful to say "Some"
  7. Didn't say they could have did I? An insurance company will argue that a quote of e.g. £2k is a reasonable quote based on their lack of provable experience. People moan about why does it cost so much to insure a cheap car - but its more to do with what or who they might hit. Doesn't that happen anyway? It certainly does - why we have to individually insure each car we own is ridiculous I agree with this on the proviso that the system for assessing their suitability to drive is improved with regular health checks. My next door neighbour has only recently stopped driving at 90. Yet he could barely walk. No it isn't - some cancers are proven to be genetically passed. Nobody is saying someone will get cancer based on family history - but the possibility may be increased.
  8. No i'm not saying they are making it up - but it's not fair to tar all with the same brush.
  9. Absolutley. We all have driving history, no claims etc. Our premium should be based on that. If you've had no accidents in the last 20years a lower premium should refelect that regardless of age or sex. Likewise if you've just passed your test and have little experience - then be male or female the premium will (and should) be higher.
  10. Well life insurance is based on family medical history and there is proven links through family generations. they have to assess risk on something. However on car insurance its not fair to assess risk on something so broad as sex. There were twins on the news this morning. Boy and Girl - both had recently passed their tests (both on the third attempt), both living at home, blah, blah. Insurance wanted £1700 for her and over £3k for him. Same experience, car, etc
  11. What all women? That's the problem with generalisations. It's like saying that a woman wouldn't make a good manager or plumber.
  12. Doesn't kick in until Dec 2012 anyway. And yes its just an excuse to put prices up rather than equalising them. However i do agree with it - its not right to make assumptions based on sex - if it was the other way round there would have been uproar along time ago.
  13. Cheers fellas - shame it's not being used. Its only done 500 miles in the last 4yrs :sad: Me too - don't tell him - it made a right mess
  14. With the lights switched on (but alas not on) have a fiddle with your "new" fuse box setup moving it and the wires about just to see if theres an obvious dodgy solder joint or bad connection. You may just see the lights flicker on and know your going in the right direction.
  15. It won't be the pod if the relay is clicking. If the relay is operating when the switch is flicked then the pod side of it is fine and you need to look to the high current side of the circuit.
  16. If the relay is clicking when flicking the switch then you know the switching side of the cirucit is working. So the problem must lie with the high current feed to the lights that the relay is controlling. The circuit diagram should show you where is orginates and fuses/connections in line. It's just a process of elimination. :detective:
  17. No probs mate. Do you have a multimeter?? You could see if power is getting to the relays and work back. Print off the circuit diagram from the online manual to refer to.
  18. Ahh the Southport roads will be a safer place  If you don't have any joy by the weekend I don't mind popping round and having a look.
  19. How do you have the option of Jap or UK ??? Whether it is a Jap or UK car will depend on the orgin of the shell - not the parts bolted in it. The shell you got of Daz was a Jap one - wasn't it? So a Jap car it'll be. Presumbably you're thinking of swapping the VIN's - do they not have stamped numbers anywhere else on the shell?
  20. It's 100% possible. A garage is under no obligation to register a car immediately. If they had it sitting round unsold for months/years it would adopt the registration letter when sold. Its just unlikely as the dealers can't afford to hold onto such stock for extended periods and it effects their bonuses. The cars either sell or are pre-registered to the dealer.
  21. The last 300's in the UK were 94, typically L reg, some M reg. So it would have to be very late registered car to be a genuine N registration. Perfectly possible but it'd be the first i'd seen.
  22. Looking good Daz, it's worked out well.
  23. So we've heard - one little hole is all you need. Anyway blaming mice because you've been messing in her knicker drawer is just mean. Oh and tell her they love the warmth of upstairs and are most active at night - lets see how long she can go without sleep :devil2:
