pic 300zx - new GTR - 350z
Nice find! :) Looking at the three side-by-side I think I still prefer the lines of the Z32. The GTR is a stunning looking machine on its own and certainly red does it no favours but compared to the Z32 and R35 the Z33 just looks boring. All IMHO of course ;) There is a black GTR not too far from where I live and I see it on occassion - v. nice indeed!

carbon fibre strut brace
Yes, if you look at the Carbing front strut brace - that weighs only about 1.2kg. A CF/Ally brace will probably weigh in the same region. In my opinion a CF brace is not about weight saving. It's more the structural rigidity that you're after. Afterall, the only job a strut brace needs to do is to keep the suspension struts equal distance apart regardless of the load put on them.

fitting big brake upgrade
I agree with what AndyP says above. The mechanical advantage (ie, caliper further from centre of hub) provides better braking. Completely off-topic, I've just been offered distribution rights to the new Nissan GTR brake kits. 380mm discs with humongous calipers - can be yours for the princely sum of nearly £4.5k! These are currently being fitted to a R32 and R33 Skyline so should be possible on the Z32 as well ...

fitting big brake upgrade
One word of warning regarding running in the discs and pads ... As you are using the stock calipers the pads won't cover the entire disc surface (usually only around 66~69% contact patch). Run the brakes in gently for around 200~300 miles. Don't stand on the brakes, don't use them for prolonged periods of time and when you've come to a stand-still take your foot off the brakes (engage handbrake or neutral and handbrake if auto trans) to avoid hot spots forming. There have been recorded occassions where due to the use of smaller pads (as compared to the disc area) and heavy braking, the discs overheat locally and caused cracks. If all is run-in properly you shouldn't have a problem. Just my 2p worth! Regards, Dan

Conzult
That's fine Vern - it is always better to make a big ticket purchase with some careful thought behind it ;) LOL. I know there is a big price differential between our ConZult equipment and other "generic" diagnostic tools for other cars. Ours was designed in-house from the ground up with the goal to improve on the Consult equipment used by main dealers. I think it is safe to say that we were succesful in achieving this goal as we have numerous franchise and independent dealers/garages who use our ConZult instead of the standard Nissan issue stuff. The main cost component is the software, which is bespoke and unique to DTA. It is forever improved and enhanced and all this is free to registered users. LOL - reading the above paragraph back it would appear that I'm trying hard to justify the high price. There is really only one reason to buy the ConZult equipment rather than anything else ... it is just the BEST you can buy. Besides, with the money you save on diagnosing and repairing problems yourself (rather than a spanner monkey at a dealer/garage) you'll have the cost back in no time. In any case, let me know if/when you wish to make a purchase. ATB Dan

Conzult
Yes - here I am! ;) Sorry about the lack of detail on the DTA (UK) site. As with everthing else, updating and redesigning the website is taking eons to do ... As stated above, I do sell the full ConZult diagnostic package. Currently the cost is £245 including shipping and this includes the hardware, software, comprehensive user manual and full support (incl. updates) for registered users. These items are purchased to order and will take approximately 7~10 days to be produced and shipped. For what it's worth, the "ConZult" stuff referred to on the BLAZT.BIZ website is SOFTWARE ONLY. You will still need hardware such as a blatz cable or a DIY interface to interrogate the car's ECU. And even then the functionality is limited when compared to our full diagnostic kit. Thats the reason why the price is so much cheaper. Blazt.biz are NOT authorised dealers of our ConZult equipment and you will not receive any support or updates for purchases made through them. If you want to discuss this purchase further please give me a call on 0845 4744-382. Regards, Dan

carbon fibre strut brace
No idea but I looked into producing these some time ago and the problem is the initial tooling and mould costs. Then there is the cost of marrying the CF bar up to an ally base and very quickly the costs spiral out of control. I was quoted somewhere in the region of £25k to design, develop and produce an initial run of 50 CF strut braces. That puts the cost per brace at around £500 + VAT + shipping (and that's without markups, etc).

Wings West Rear Bumper
ZCentre do a FG copy (not best quality but cheap for what it is) and Wings West (USA) still do these (in polyurethane) to order only. However, trying to get in touch with them nigh on impossible. Perhaps get in touch with someone over on the American forums/clubs and ask them to contact WW. HTH Dan PS - http://www.wingswest.com - very slow website ...:(

Euro Headlights
Yes, - the beam is angled differently. Euro-spec angled to the right, UK-spec angled to the left and US-spec is flat and centred. FWIW: contact Eric at DTA-Motorsport in The Netherlands. He (on occassion) has access to some Euro breakers and may have a set (or two) in stock. HTH Dan

What to do!!!!
Some more info on chips and 400 cams. Any chip will have trouble getting the car to idle correctly unless other parameters are compromised to make allowances for the cams. This goes against our ethos of providing chips that are safe and reliable under all conditions. That's the reason why DTA won't be able to provide a chip on this occassion. HTH Dan

once these hit 10k im having one
Aren't these Monaros the ones with Corvette LS6 V8 engines? If so then they must be a hoot to drive. A friend lent me his Corvette C6 Z06 a year or so ago and I just can't wipe that smile off my face! Absolutely outstanding engine.

Boot Switch
The dash warning light - yes, your alarm - possibly not. A lot of alarms use a separate push-type switch for the boot and hood of the car. Having said that, my alarm uses the boot switch ...

Brake Discs????
Hi Alex, Sorry about having to cut our telephone conversation short yesterday. I tried phoning back later in the afternoon but got no answer so left a message on your mobile service. Give me a call later today (after 2pm if possible) to continue our discussion. Question for you: are you using stock size (ie 280mm) DBA discs or GTR size (ie 324mm) discs? Hopefully I'll speak to you later today. Regards, Dan

Front light clarification
Hi Bazz, As stated above, front fogs are NOT a MOT requirement IF THE ARE NOT FITTED. If they are fitted then they must work. And yes, I sell both the CF foglight ducts, Crystal front indicator clusters and silvertec bulbs. Let me know if I can help. Regards, Dan

Fed Ex Import Duty Invoice
Sorry - meant to say the "freeze" the account. Basically - they won't process any further consignments until the outstanding balance is paid off. Had this happen to me last year when a consignment arrived just before I went on holiday. Three weeks later I return to find a letter on the doormat stating that the account was frozen until the invoice was settled. Once I settled the outstanding balance four (!) other consignments were delivered within three days! Invoices for those were sent later so they definitely held those consignments until the debt was cleared ... I'm not sure whether this applies to individuals who import parts ad hoc. I have a business account with most couriers which makes a difference. Regards, Dan

Fed Ex Import Duty Invoice
You'll find that 99% of courier companies now pay the import duty & VAT upon importation, deliver the goods and then send an invoice at a later date. DHL is very hot on getting paid within 2 weeks or they close the account. You'll also find that in addition to the import duty & VAT you'll be charged an "agent" or handling fee which can be anything from £10 ~ £25. Marking consignments as being a "gift" only works upto a value of £18 (as stated by SWZ above). Also, Customs & Excise are now very clued up on what the actual values are of goods being imported. They too have access to the internet and can easily check.

Clearance bulbs(sidelight)
The only "legal" colour of lighting to have on your car are white (headlights/reverse), amber (indicators and some side lights) and red (brake/fog lights). Come MOT time the garage WILL fail you if you have any other colours than the above (found this out the hard way .. So if you're going to do it, do it at your own risk. HTH Dan

Fitting a later spec ECU
Yes, I believe that '94+ ECU's are all 16-bit units which can not be chipped. Most owners of late model cars actually "down grade" to an older 8-bit ECU to have it chipped. IIRC the only difference between the late and early model ECU's is emmissions control. Also, I think only JWT have a solution for chipping a late model ECU by adding a piggy-back ECU = very costly. HTH Dan PS - I stand to be corrected on the actual year that 16-bit ECU's were introduced.

one letter wrong on a flight booking???
I've worked at Birmingham airport in various capacities (incl. checkin staff) and so long as the surname on the ticket matches that on the passport photo page then it is at the discretion of the checkin staff (or supervisor) to allow travel. In your case it is just one letter difference. I've had a passenger trying to check in on a flight to Nairobi (via Amsterdam) with the name in the passport being William Smith and the name on the ticket being Gregory Smith. He claimed the booking was made in his brother's name but he was ill so this chap needed to fly. Unfortunately for him he did not travel that day ... AndyP is right - if you were travelling to the US you'd have a problem but seeing as your flying EasyJet you're going nowhere near there so should be fine.

Hi Stuart - I'm not at my desk in the office so can't give you the actual rating but it is high pressure fuel hose. I'll get you the actual rating later. As for price, the full kit (hoses, end finishers and line separators) costs £68. I'll be in touch asap. Regards, Dan

concorde tour
Those pics bring back memories! I've been on it a number of times back in the late '90. Worked for AT&T and needed to be in New York a lot on short notice. As I worked in Hong Kong at the time it was usually Virgin Atlantic Upper Class to Heathrow and then on to JFK on Concord. Believe it or not, this was quicker than flying HK to LAX or SFO to JFK! God I miss the days when someone else was paying for my tickets!

Go on..... Scare me to death!
All these horror stories are not doing Athene any good! Speak to your dentist about the procedure (which I assume you've already done) and then make sure that the surgeon who is performing the procedure knows that you are frightened of the situation. They understand that and will most likely be very accommodating and aware of your fear. In truth, the biggest fear you can have is not knowing what is going to happen. If you are kept fully informed of what's happening then you will automatically be less afraid. Everybody reacts differently to having teeth pulled (be they teeth, molars or wisdom teeth). I had my two wisdom teeth removed many years ago and have never had any problems. All under local anaesthetic and kept fully informed of what they were doing. After the procedure I was given pain killers but never needed them. In fact, I was able to drive home within 30 minutes of the procedure. That's how I reacted to the situation. So, Athene, I know it is a scary thing but the best way to arm yourself against fear is to be well informed. Good luck girl. HTH Dan
