HIT and RUN
FFS some people just don't use their eyes in the first place, but not to stop after causing an accident, that's just unforgiveable. Were there any witnesses/traffic cams ? Hope you make a good recovery mate. Mark

Front Side Lights vs MOT
I've just read a bit of the MOT guidlines here which is as follows: [Re: front "position lights", I assume means side-lights] Note: At least 50% of each lamp must be visible from the front or rear as appropriate Does that mean: a) when viewed from the front, it must be less than half obscured OR b) the light-emitting area of the lamp as viewed from the front must be at least half of total light-emitting area (i.e. the face can't be angled more than 60deg from the lateral axis). I've just converted my side lights to be in the US side-marker position, which means that there's greater light-emitting area from the side, but the light is still actually directed straight forwards. I suspect it may consitute an MOT failure... Mark

Failed MOT due to suggested fog light mod
I've not seen those notes before. It would seem there's a difference between what's technically law and what's tested in the MOT! Not only are fog lights not allowed to be used as brake lights too, but they have to be >100mm from a brake light. My car's been through 2 MOTs with dual-function lights and not been failed. Mark

My Car Just Blown Up on M6! Advice please....
Thinking off the top of my head, if the head's warped enough, no compression, so it'll never fire. I don't think you could melt anything else enough to stop it all from working, but have you had a scan over the engine to see if anything obvious is damaged? Hope you get it sorted mate.

ATTN!! World Record Attemp
Damn. I pulled out of a holiday weekend so I could make it. If it comes back on-line, will you aim for the same date? Regarding charity money, how about leaving that as reponsibility for individuals? Create a sponsorship form for everyone, but leave them to collect and send the money for a charity of their choice? Kind of takes the pressure of any particular person or organisation?

Gutted stock cats
But performance should be improved even if they're just gutted, even if it's not optimum. In my mind, the question of proper de-cat or gutted cats is one of the environment. If they're not fully gutted, just enought to remove back-pressure, then I guess they'll be chucking out various exotic metals and minerals over time. As far as needing cats or not, it depends on whether you believe there's a problem with removing Cat back-pressure with standard turbos. The forum tends to appear split 50:50 on this, so read the various tales (some of happiness, some of woe!) and make up your own mind. If you have the cats replaced, at least go with ones of the high-flow variety. By all accounts much cheaper then replacing with stock. Mark

Never thought I'd say this about a Clio...
I would, and was thinking about it in a moment of stupidity when I was considering selling the Zed :x: Looks like a right laugh!

Position a TV, DVD, hifi, kettle, mini-fridge, books and wireless laptop within reach of bed, then just get settled! :) I survived for 2 weeks that way. Only thing missing was a supply of pot-noodles.

Your Zed experience? info for newbies
Had mine 2 and a bit years, spent £5k for the car (slightly over the odds at the time) and about another £3k on repairs and mods. Out of the repairs (none major per se) probably a bit over a grand combined on new clutch and 60k service. Given I spent an initial £8k on my previous Pug 306 +repairs over 5 years, I know which one I'd go for every time! :D

LED side lights
To anyone who doesn't keep an eye on the FAQs, and in case anyone's interested, I've just finished fitting LEDs to illuminate what on the US cars are the side-markers. And written it up here... http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=76538 Loads of people have probably done it before, but I haven't found it written up anywhere. Personally, I don't think the photos don't quite do it justice- looks better in the flesh and I'm dead happy with my work! :D Mark
