  1. Chris, Can you drop me a line, I need to get some quotes for some bits n pcs.. Where are you - geographically and could you publish your contact details please? Cheers. Andy GP andy.gp@gmx.com
  2. Have you fitted new dials or had the needles out recently? That can do it as well..
  3. BTW - Halfrauds - the 12 and 13mm are about £11.50 each...
  4. Hi, Managed to whip my entire EGR out last night in about 90 minutes: With Engine in: Plenum OFF: The secret is this little baby: or similar. Allows you to get at those pesky 12mm bolts and with an extension handle - break those mothers free :p And that was on my 1990 ZED - not bad I thought! I have read somewhere (Maybe Aussie site) that the EGR bolts are 13mm - thety are def 12mm - just posting cos I know a lot of folks are considering doing this. Hardest part is still the 22mm on the exhaust manifold - I cut mine off flush with an angle grinder, and drilled and tapped a thread into it the remainder, and then plugged it forever with an M12 bolt. Hope that helps someone. AndyGP :hyper:
  5. But mine is RED (of course)...
  6. The black plate is suspended by two brackets so that it sits under the twin-mushroom filters - as in - looking from above the plate protects the filters from road crap. Hope that helps
  7. Jeff, Are there any checks I can do to confirm everything is in the right place - like checking for TDC of the firing sequence? And is the sequence 1,2,3,4,5,6 - or 1,3,5-2,4,6 Reason I ask is because everything has been chromed and some of the marks are difficult to confirm now everything has been moved around. Andy
  8. Jeff - the blue version of the timing belt - do you supply that?
  9. Jeff, Superstar - that is brilliant! Thank you for the time and effort you have put into this for me and the many other meembers who will benefit. I have a couple of questions that I will fire off later as I need to take a couple of pictures first so... Many thanks again. Andy
  10. Jeff - how was your day? How goes the [idiots guide to] timing belt fit/setup - I need something to read in the bath tonight ;-)))). lol Just kidding - catch ya later. Best regards. AndyGP
  11. I am catching you up mate -
  12. If it not tooooooooooo inconvenient that would be better than fantastic Jeff sir - and very much appreciated. A
  13. Jeff - I will now probably not get back to this until the weekend so...
  14. Thank you Jeff matey - that is like tucking me in, and calming me with hot chocolate and a cookie. ;-))))) I would like the written form ideally then we could share with other twits/sorry people learning to flush money/time down the toilet like me ha ha. But I will still probably call you... Sleepy now Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
  15. One more - is the crankshaft sprocket pre-marked by OEM as I never marked it as I never intended to remove/move the belt from the crankshaft.
  16. OK - I will try and sleep on it and take a look with a clear head tomorrow if I get chance... So what should the process be now - from scratch - for a dummy please? Go back to page EM18 and start again?
  17. Hi Paul (stop laughing) On the exhaust/inlet crank pullys I ground a mark in (as the sprockets were going off to be chromed) and marked the belt accordingly so yes - but not the crank pully at the mo as that is in Dorset currently, and has been replaced with a Unorthodox pully - that has no marks - doh! The old pulley will be back next week. If I was doing a complete engine rebuild - I would have to set this up from scratch right - so there must be a way to confirm. I am being a little manic - but bear with me ;-)
  18. This is my reference http://www.300zx-twinturbo.com/cgi-bin/manual.cgi Yesterday I had the crank and the inlet cranks aligned to the belt ok - but the exhaust seemd out quite a bit - now nothing seems to line up at the top - and what if he has turned the crank GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrr He will be lucky to keep his good leg if this is knackered (sorry James)
  19. I have had my cousin (ex army mechanic) helping me a bit with my engine/service/update and he has been aware of my concerns regarding the timing belt going back on in the right place - and everything NOT going bang!! Hence my care with NOT removing the belt from the crank sprocket, and carefully lining up and marking everything prior to taking off everything to be polished/chromed/powder coated etc. :xxx::x: However, today he decided to stray a little from what I had asked him to do today (whilst I am at work), and he has removed the timing belt and I feel posibly faffed about with the position of the inlet/exhaust cranks as well!!!  I have lots of photo's (change management - you can't keep a good ITIL expert down)... but I am still pooing my pants - so question: If you were given an engine without a timing belt, and you have no timing marks/crank position data to work with - what is the process/how would you get everything on song/lined up for the belt to go on etc.? And no big bang!:mad:
  20. ... thanks guys - I know where I am now - appreciated as ever. ;-)
