Dump Valves Vote
Oh yeah, and the mixture thing. It's how much air is going through the AFM that counts, not how much enters the engine. If you dump the charge to atmosphere, there's still a large volume of air entering the AFM to replace the air drawn through the turbo as it slows down. Appropriate quantities of fuel are therefore injected to compensate. You basically have an enormous boost leak. The drawbacks of this may be debatable however. I presume you haven't got any cats. Although having that quantity of unburnt fuel passing through my very hot exhaust turbines would worry me. Don't know enough about that bit though.

Dump Valves Vote
Hi mate. The recircs basically create a closed loop between both sides of the inlet part of the charger. Therefore this is now a closed system containing charged (i.e. boosted) air. This will not escape anywhere and the turbine is basically freewheeling, pushing this charged air around the loop. Yeah, the turbine will slow down, the same way a fan in a normal atmospheric pressure slows down when you switch it off. But it won't stall. When the throttles open again, the air is still charged inside the loop.

Errrr, no. You're only going to need uprated recircs if you're stock ones can't take the boost you're running. If your recircs are up to the volume of air, they're always going to be better than throwing away all that air you've spent time charging. With the dump valve, yeah you stop the turbo stalling, but you're running the engine on an awful mixture in the meantime and you're losing all your carefully compressed air. Did you put up with all that lag just to throw the air away again? I'm going to get so much shit for this aren't I?

Moaning about freeloaders

Moaning about freeloaders
I've read quite a bit on here recently about subscribed members, freeloading, etc. One thing is true, we need to encourage more people to pay to join, especially as we are now planning on marketing ourself as a "club". Personally I feel you're going to get far greater result with a carrot approach rather than a big stick. What do people get for joining? Not exactly that much more than not joining. Most people have paid up because, like me, they had been using the board previously and, when funds were required, stumped up the cash to keep everything going. The main reason people will quite happily pay is if they see some benefit from it. So what can we easily offer that's realistic? I leave this post open to suggestions.... One salient point that springs to mind is this... I've had so much help off people on here when I've had problems with the car. You can't take technical help away from non-members as that is what attracts many people here. What you can do is not go overboard to help. For example, I've had parts lent to me to help diagnose problems. This really should only be done for paid up members. We have resources between us detailing the best places to buy certain parts, etc. These resources could be compiled and made available to paid up members only. Group buys could be kept for paid up members. Etc, etc, etc. My ideas only. Just a suggestion but I'm sure there are many benefits we can offer paid up members, as opposed to naming and shaming and persuading people it really is their civic duty to pay up. Yeah, I'd feel like a freeloader if I hadn't paid up for all the help I've had. But people are 10 times (source: Mike's lager filled brain) more likely to pay up if they see a tangible, immediate benefit. Discuss... (this will count towards your final grade)
