Engine's Out
Bugger! Is that all it is? I had thought that pulling the two gerbil families out of the silencers would have fixed it. But no, I was still stumped. This tissue must be what they were making their nests out of. No 555's for the time being I'm afraid. Despite Stu's (SRRAE) very tempting suggestions for 555's, dual pop and chip. I was sorely sorely tempted but managed to hold back! The plenums off 'coz I thought it would be a damn sight easier to start by removing that in the car. As I've never had a VG30DETT out before, it seemed much easier to see what was still connected to it by pulling the plenum first. Anyway, I've got a new det sensor to put in so it was going to have to come off anyway. The main reason for pulling the engine was I have a slight knock from one of the big end bearings. I thought I'd better address this before it became a problem. Anyway, the car needed a 60K service and had a few oil leaks around the turbos so I had an excuse to pull the engine. After doing the big end bearings, I'm basically replacing anything that can wear out, putting loads of Smithy's shiny stuff in, new clutch, new flywheel, big brakes and boost controller. After spending all that, Jane would *****ck me big time if I suddenly told her I was buying injectors, etc! Wish me luck.

Engine's Out
No worries. When I find it I'll let you know! On first glance, there's a sensor underneath the lower inlet manifold and I'm putting my money on that being it. Could be wrong though.

Engine's Out
Got the engine out this afternoon. Now the fun starts...

Attaching to Engine Stand
Well that's definately the bell housing. Cheers mate.

Attaching to Engine Stand
I'm pulling the engine tomorrow but I'm not 100% sure the best way to fit it to the engine stand. I'd presumed I was going to attach the stand to the bell housing but the manual shows a stand attached to the side of the engine. Any thoughts on this anyone?

TPS and Boost
You have a very big boost leak by the sound of it. Check the four big hoses at the front of the engine bay. I've had problems with these on several occassions and I've just replaced them all with shiny stuff from Smithy.

What to replace?
Is it a brand new one? If so, how much is it? I could certainly do with one to replace all my brittle cables under there.

What to replace?
Where are you getting the partial wiring loom from?

Your thoughs on Turbos please
I had Turbo Technics hybrids fitted a few years back. Does anyone know if these are any good?

At a loss what is causing petrol smell
I digress but this is also an excellent method for locating the correct entry point after having pulled an ample princess at 10 to 2 just before the club shuts.

Z Sighting in Wigan
Wasn't me 'coz most of my car is sat here in front of me on the floor. The rest of it's on the drive outside!

prop-shaft length
And I can honestly say that's the first time I've made a comment like that on an Internet forum!
-
prop-shaft length
Sorry forgot to mention... I've had a few beers so if you want something more accurate you'll have to wait until tomorrow.
-
prop-shaft length
Well mine's on the floor here so I've just measured it! It's approx. 132cm tip to tip.

Car is over heating
Doesn't sound excessive to me. Does anyone else have an oil temp guage?

Car is over heating
The car heater matrix is a very inefficient way to remove heat from the coolant when you compare it to the car's main radiator, etc. If you can get that much cooling from the matrix, it would suggest your main cooling system isn't being used or is under utilised. The pump must be good as you can get cooling through the matrix. Thermostat perhaps?

Gearbox is off
Got the gearbox off this afternoon. Hardest part was dragging the bloody thing out from under the car! I had to get it off the transmission jack under the car, then drag it out the side with millimetres to spare. So exhaust, propshaft, gearbox and plenum are now all off (plenum was removed before I decided I was pulling the engine). I'm ordering an engine stand this week and pulling the engine next weekend. The front of the engine is stripped back to the timing belt. As far as I can work out, there's very little else to do before lifting it: Remove the air con compressor and tie it out of the way. Remove the PAS pump. Remove the heater hoses. Remove the inlet pipe to the turbos. Remove the oil cooler pipes. Disconnect the remaining couple of connectors (detonation, etc) when the engine comes up. Anyone think of anything I've missed?

Engine Slinger Locations
Nice one mate. Thanks for the help.

Engine Slinger Locations
Hi Eric Thanks for the reply. Sorry I seem to have not explained myself correctly. I know this is where the bolts go into the engine but my worry was the holes are just designed for holding that bracket in place. Am I just being over cautious? If you've already tried this then I presume everything should be ok. Cheers.

Engine Slinger Locations
Thanks for the replies. Those bolts are for a bracket that supports the pipe going to the turbo. The plenum attachment bolts are all on the top of the engine. Would these be strong enough to support the entire engine as they only usually support a small bracket? Also, what are the plenum locations for lifting it as I could always bolt the plenum temporarily back on?

Engine Slinger Locations
Does anyone know the best place to attach engine slingers to an engine that has already had the plenum removed from it in situ?
-
Engine Stand
I thought so. I've bought quite a bit of gear from that place. They do seem very cheap compared to others.

Engine Stand
450Kg it says. Is that enough?

Cheers mate. Appreciated.
