  1. I've obviously got too much money.......I bought new brackets, mind you the old brackets had near disintegrated.
  2. Well, I disconnected both O2 sensors yesterday afternoon before I had a 30 mile round trip to do and there was no appreciable improvement in the misfire/hesitation problem  However today, once I had reconnected them........................the misfire etc. has gone  The engine is revving smoothly with no hiccups at all, it stalled once and idle is not perfect but hey.....no misfire. Hopefully it will stay that way but who knows? Thanks for all the advice guys - I grinning all the way through kickdown
  3. The misfire appears mainly on kickdown (full throttle) right enough, under normal acceleration the car drives as normal. Suppose that I'll have to drive sensibly until I can figure out the cause of the misfire  I'll try disconnecting the O2 sensors anyway, It's an easy fix if it works.
  4. The spark plugs are about four years and four thousand miles old, so I wasn't looking at them as being the cause of the problem, but it is a Zed after all and that means that you can't really rule anything out
  5. Hi all, My Zed is suffering from a misfire/hesitation which appears when the engine is under load and between about 3500 and 4500 revs. Sitting in neutral, you can rev smoothly and freely without any problems but when accelerating hard, the misfire appears. On several occasions I've been able to "drive through" the hesitation but it's not often that that happens. Zed is a 1993 TT Auto, Zedworld chipped ECU, decats with Mongoose rear, Apexi air induction, HKS ALC, S2 PTU. The car is in good condition and passed it's MOT recently with no advisories, as long as I don't give it too much "welly" it drives as normal. Any pointers on what to look for would be much appreciated.
  6. Hi all, I would like to be able to use either Consult or Datascan on my Zed, can anyone advise on what spec laptop would serve the purpose? We have every other kind of device in our household but not a laptop, I presume that it would have to be an old laptop - maybe running Windows XP? :confused1: Any help would be appreciated, as I need to get to the bottom of an engine related problem that my Zed has. Thanks - Andy
  7. Well Daz, you've sold me on the Z31, I'll try and arrange for a friend of a friend's trailer in the next week. Thanks again - Andy
  8. Thanks for the encouragement, I didn't know that it was a turbo version until I saw it :) What are they like to work on? Obviously they're now thirty years old - where are the bad areas for rust....or is that a silly question :blushing:
  9. Thanks for the quick replies guys. Si - yes it's a 2+2 and would be a wee project, which if it didn't work - would result in my breaking the car. Lexx - I'll phone MJP tomorrow for parts info - thanks.
  10. I've had a look at a 1984 Z31 turbo manual car today, no tax or mot, last on the road in 2004 and garaged since. The engine started first thing from cold and sounded sweet - no nasty noises or excess smoke from the exhaust - so far so good. It needs the OSF wing replaced (used one supplied), the front rubber? spoiler has a good chunk missing, the rear wheel arches are disintegrating and the quarters are bubbling. The boot floor seems good as do the chassis rails but the inner wing valances have been crudely patched to pass a previous mot. The interior is messy but ok, it looks like the targas are leaking slightly. I can probably get this for £400 - any advice on body parts availability or general value of the car would be welcome. I would be doing the work myself, so labour cost is not an issue - cheers - Andy........pics follow.

  12. Hi there and welcome, Whereabouts in Scotland are you then?
  13. Nottingham - North......pffft  North to me, is the top of Scotland :D
  14. I'm okay for most days, there's very little that I can't arrange around.
  15. I only just saw this, congrats and good luck
  16. After a bit of a false start, I fitted my illuminated rear light panel (courtesy of phutumsch) - well happy :D
  17. Looks and sounds great - well done that man
  18. I' ll give you that one Si, I had no dealings with Montegos, so It didn't come to memory, unlike the Alpine - and yes the colour combinations of the interior were something to behold ( like a lot of late Seventies and Eighties cars) and yes the bumpers faded something terrible.
  19. I thought that I had seen that style of rear light before, for my sins, I had one of these in the Eighties :blushing:
  20. Great photographs and lots of lovely Zeds, what more can you ask for -
  21. Fat chance  It was absolutely pouring with rain and that was followed by a hailstorm - wonderful. It made the back end quite twitchy tho' :D Re - PaulC - - To your questions - - Yes and yes, The last eight years I've done Mercedes, Smart, Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge, Subaru, Isuzu and Kia parts. Don't do Scoobys or Isuzu any more as we dropped these franchises, shame as I liked the Scoobys.
  22. Well, that was a nice day out, I'm just back from Millbrook Proving Ground, where I had great fun - driving a selection of Mercedes' best offerings :D C63 AMG, E63 AMG, ML63 AMG and even an S65, I got to try them all, a couple of laps around the banked circuit in each of them and then the same again on the "Alpine" section. No photographs unfortunately as our mobile phone camera's lenses were covered by security tape, in order that we couldn't take any photos of "secret or military" vehicles. Star of the show for me was the E63 AMG, great to drive with an awesome soundtrack of an exhaust
  23. Lol - just about spat my morning coffee out - brilliant :rofl::rofl:
  24. Paid by PayPal - Thanks very much - Andy
  25. Just been out to ASDA for supplies...............1° It's set rise to 4° or 5° later tho' :D
