a cleaner plenum
i used a fairly light ie. not very aggresive wire brush wheel on a drill. a bit like these, i used the disc shaped one, but i bought them from my local hardware shop, so i could feel them, you don't want anything too stiff, then i cleaned it with carb cleaner... hth. http://www.screwfix.com/prods/13734/Abrasives/Brushes/For-Drills/Drill-Carbon-Steel-Wire-Brush-Set-3Pc?cm_mmc=GoogleBase-_-Datafeed-_-Abrasives-_-Drill%20Carbon%20Steel%20Wire%20Brush%20Set%203Pc

Mesh...
i think you just bond it on with a few dollops of fibre glass resin type stuff in about 10 places, with metal mesh you would bend it to shape, not sure about that with the plastic stuff tho? may not need to tho, think the gap is pretty flat anyways...

Help/Ideas needed for a 1990 TT Auto...
if you do clean the injector connectors, be careful not to loose the little metal clip you have to pop off first (if they are still on) it is more than likely that if you drop one or it pops off, it will never be seen again!

Help/Ideas needed for a 1990 TT Auto...
I'd agree a dirty injector or PTU connector/unit, when you boot it (as one does) :) it puts more of a load on the connectors etc. than when it's just being revved... but basically as above... hope ya get it sorted mate...

PCV valve advice needed please
yeah, it has a metal retrisctor a bit thicker than a pound coin, with a hole in the middle, and something that looks like a miniature toilet brush :) I did manage with the correct size pipe to re-use them, but it's a ball ache, suppose you could give it a go, and if it doesn't work for ya then buy the proper ones...
